we have a one night stay at one resort, followed by a week's stay at another. the flight gets in at 10 pm, so we figured we wouldn't see our luggage until the next day, when by that time we'll have checked out of the first resort already! first they told me i was required to collect the bags myself, which i don't want to do. i don't need to see the bags that night. then they connected me to DME who said they would send us tags for the second reservation and we need to use those on our luggage.

but i forgot to ask DME---i know there's a lot of talk about how one has to be on the DME in order to take advantage of the luggage transportation--our DME trip will be from the first resort reservation on one day, and our luggage will have tags to another resort on the subsequent day. are there potential problems with this?

what do they do with yellow-tagged bags if the person does not ride DME that day?

thanks,
dj

Well, the info on the DME part of the website (I was just arranging it for our trip) states pretty clearly that if your flight arrives before 5am or after 10pm, that you need to collect it yourself... So for me, that's where the conversation grinds to a halt.

just use the tickets that came w/the bag tags and you'll be fine... it's okay to arrive ahead of schedule or behind schedule (and w/a check in date of the next day, you are "ahead of schedule") just as long as they know you're coming!!

Quite honestly, here is what I would do.

Instead of staying on Disney property that first night, stay at the Hyatt AT the airport. Bring your tags for the weeklong reservation with you, but DON't put them on the bags just yet.

When you get to MCO, claim your bags, take the elevator upstairs to the Hyatt, check in and go to bed.

The next morning, put the yellow tags on all the bags you want delivered, and hand them off to the Bell Services at the Hyatt. They have a service that will get your bags behind the scenes and on to the DME delivery trucks.

Then walk downstairs to the DME Welcome Center, check in and board your bus.

Most likely, if you put the reservation #2 tags on the baggage and you get into Orlando after 10 PM for reservation #1, the bags will just go 'round and 'round on the carousel until airline personnel take them and put them into the airline's storage, then next morning DME will get them and dispatch them to resort #2.

But if something goes wrong, you would not be able to complete a baggage claim at the resort since you won't have proof of plane arrival before 10 PM on resort #2 check in day.

the ressie is at a value for $59 after tax, and i'm guessing the hyatt is more, but i'll check. this is too confusing. the woman from DME told me to put the second day's tags on the bags and to use the first day's ticket for us. that doesn't mesh wth what others have said. i know that people answering the phones can give out wrong info. maybe i'll just rent a minivan handle the luggage and my scooter myself.
