in the DME bumpf it says that once you've dropped your luggage off at your aiport, you won't see it again until its delivered to your room.
but yesterday when reading a link (cant remember where) it said that if you're travelling from the uk, you will need to reclaim your bags, go through customs and then drop it off on the second conveyor belt (by esculators), after that it will be taken to your hotel and room. Is this correct?

Yes, that's right. Obviously, upon entering the US you are required to clear Customs and you can't do that without your bags.

Yes or you can just take the bags on to the bus yourself and then you have your luggage straight away. Anyone travelling from outwith the UK has to go through immigration withyour luggage. The only way that disney will collect your luggage without you going through immigration is if you have had a non direct flight as you will have gone through immigration already in the US and will then be classed as a domestic traveller

I'm probably being unnecessarily pedantic, but for the avoidance of doubt, you clear Immigration immediately after leaving the plane, then collect your bags before passing through Customs. It's Customs clearance which relates to your luggage, not Immigration. :)
