DME question: regarding 2 people on 2 ressie from 2 different households...

I've been posting some transportation questions here for the last few days in regards to my May 8th - 12th trip, and now I have some more.

I just called Disney and asked them to enter my flight info for DME purposes. The problem is, I am going on this trip with a friend of mine who lives in Canada (I live in Massachusetts) and we're sharing a room; the first 3 nights of the trip are in MY name, the last is her name, therefore we have 2 reservation numbers for this trip. WE ARE BOTH LISTED ON EACH OTHER'S RESERVATIONS.

The person I just spoke with told me that the DME tags for my flight down will come here to MY house because I'm the lead name on the ressie; the problem is that my friend's tags will be sent here too. And vice versa, though the return flight isn't too big of a deal because she can give me the tags once we get to WDW.

My question is, how far in advance will I receive the tags? I'd like enough time to be able to mail them up to Canada for her.

I can't believe they can't just send each our tags to US; I guess the computer software they use isn't sophisticated enough to differentiate between each guest on the ressie, regarding their address :confused3 OR, Disney just chooses not to deal with a situation such as this.

Any suggestions or info is much appreciated!! :)

first, the tags only matter when going TO WDW. they're not used at all when returning, so that's moot.

the tags are typically sent now about 6 weeks prior to check-in (assuming there is 6+ weeks). if you booked directly through Disney, they will go directly to you. if you go through any other TA (including AAA), it will go to them.

worst case, they're really not needed. aside from choosing to claim one's own luggage and bring it on the DME bus, you can provide DME with the claim info as well as additional descriptors and they will go ahead and pull the luggage from the carousel on your behalf and deliver the luggage to your room. not quite as smooth, but it works.

Everything bradk said is correct.

You should get the tags in more than plenty of time to mail them to your friend. The DME booklet and tags only go to the lead name on the reservation, as you already learned. It's then up to you to distribute them to other members of your party.

On the way back home, NO ONE uses DME tags. They just don't exist. HOWEVER, you may be confused by a computer glitch that will cause DME tags to be sent to your friend. This is because each reservation number that has a DME reservation will generate DME tags, whether they are needed or not. For example, a split stay (2 resorts in 1 trip) even in the same name will generate two sets of DME tags to be sent. So in other words, if you have DME reservations for the ride back to the airport, your friend will receive an entirely separate DME booklet and DME tags. YOUR FRIEND SHOULD DISCARD THESE DME TAGS. THEY ARE MEANINGLESS. THEY ARE THE RESULT OF A COMPUTER GLITCH.

Like bradk said, there's no such thing as DME tags for the trip back to the airport. So please trust us on this one -- when your Canadian friend receives those tags, just plain throw them away to avoid confusion.

Thanks for the replies! I'm glad to know that I should have plenty of time to mail her the tags.

And I had totally forgotten that we don't need tags for the return, they'll tag them right at the resort for us, as I recall.

As a bit of side news, after I posted this thread I called WDW back and asked if, by any chance, that fourth night had opened up under the AP discount. It HAD opened, so now at least we're on 1 reservation only, which will hopefully make things a bit less confusing. lol

Hi Terry!!! You can always FedEx overnight the tags....it would cost more than regular mail, but your friend would get them in plenty of time!!! Hope your trip is a good one!!!
You going try to do the Canobie Lake Park meet this June???

if you're flying on a participating airline and can make use of remote airline check-in, yes (flights between 8 am and 1 am). assuming your friend is flying directly back to canada, she will not be able to use RAC regardless of her airline as it's domestic only. DME will also request to pick her up about 4 hours prior to her flight as opposed to 3 for you.

Hi Diane!! :wave2:

It was kind of funny, when the CM first started talking I didn't detect an accent of any kind, but when I asked him if he could find out if the fourth night was available with the AP discount, he said (with a full Boston accent) "I will make it happen, for someone from *the town I live in*". I laughed and asked him where he grew up, and he said a particular section of Boston. VERY nice CM, I think he said his name was Alec. :cool2:

I didn't know there was a Canobie Lake Park meet in June. As much as I'd love to see everyone again, I'm not into rides anymore, and my DH never was into rides, so I'm not sure if we'd go or not. Do you know if there will be any Boston meets or other MA meets??

Thanks for the idea to FedEx the tags, I think that's exactly what I'll do ::yes::

thanks for that info, bradk :) She's flown to Florida many, many times, so she is probably very familiar with the procedure. It's ME who wasn't sure. LOL

And yes, my flight is at 8pm on JetBlue, so I'll be making use of the airline check-in at the resort. That particular perk is my favorite aspect of DME :cool2:

I am going to WDW around the same time you are and I got my DME tags in the mail today. I was so surprised. I figured they would arrive about 2 weeks before the trip but here we are with 6 weeks to go and the tags are here already!

So hopefully they will send yours out right away, giving you a bit of time to send them on to your friend in Canada. Good luck! I hope everything works out for you.
