Last time we travelled, I didn't check any bags so we've never took advantage of this service. I'm considering it since I will have a child with me this time so the less baggage I need to push around would be best BUT I am super paranoid about loss luggage which would be the worst to start off the trip.

Anyone had experience with DME losing the luggage or delivery much later than their advertised times?

Or did people generally have positive experience and will continue taking advantage of this free service?

I love DME! You don't have to wait around the carousel for your bags. Then carry them to the bus and then the room. The bags do take a little while to come, but it is a great service. They come right to the room. I highly recommend it. :thumbsup2

I've used DME several times and have not had any major problems with the luggage. They will ask you how many bags you checked and so far they have always delivered all of them. Once the bags did take longer than 3 hours, but when I called down to bell service and it turned out the bags were at the resort. They were sent up immediately. So, it wasn't a major problem.

I go to WDW 4-6 times a year and have used DME since the very first week it was in existence (yeah, I was one of the original guinea pigs:rotfl:). It's a great service and I have never had a problem or complaint. On average it takes maybe 75 minutes from the time the plane lands to get to your resort. (Some trips have been shorter, but it's never taken over 90 minutes, even when we were the last stop and some people had alot of luggage they had brought on to unload--don't know why people do that:confused3). As far as how long the luggage takes, we've never had a problem there either. I usually arrive at MCO around 9:30am and after checking in, go straight to the parks to eat lunch. My bags have always been waiting in the room for me when I get back that night. Last Dec, I arrived at CSR about 10:45 and decided to walk around the resort taking pictures. Maybe 45 minutes later as I was headed back to my room, I saw one of those carts with my bright green duffel on the back. I caught the CM as he was walking back from delivering bags to another room, told him the bag was mine, and would save him a trip to my room. He told me he couldn't give it to me, even with ID. He said he was required to deliver it to the room, but to hop on and he'd take me there. When we got to the room, I again tried to take my bag and he wouldn't let me, telling me he was required to scan his key to show he had delivered it inside the room. He scanned his key and punched some info into a little machine he had and I followed him into the room, where he finally released the bag to me. I know tips are included for luggage delivery, but felt funny not giving him anything, so offered him a couple of bucks, which he told me he wasn't allowed to take, since tips are included as part of the luggage delivery. Anyway, my point is, I know for that trip at least that my luggage was delivered very promptly. I've never had a problem with lost luggage. Since you tell them when you check in at the DME podium how many bags you checked, if they don't find that many, they will immediately know if the airline lost a bag and will start them looking for it immediately.

DME is a great service. We love them. In fact, I used them last Sept and again in Nov/Dec and will be using them again in Feb, May, Sept, and Oct/Nov.

Wow now that is great service!

Thanks for the reassurance.

The bellhop must key into the room, establishing a paper trail comparable to a night watchman's, when delivering Magical Express bags.

The DME bus behaves as a connecting flight. The normal arrival of DME bags at the room is about 3 hours after you can get there, and you are not expected to wait there. Therefore the 4 hour period for making baggage claims begins when you discover bags missing which can be after the park closes for that night. Baggage claims are handled at your final destination which is your resort, in the same fashion as when finishing any airline itinerary, considering that the DME procedure has you skipping the carousel at the airport.

Not sure when you are arriving, but make sure you will have everything you need for at least the first 24 hours of your trip in your carry on. That way, if your bags are delayed, you won't be missing anything you need right away. If you arrive early, check in and go enjoy the parks. Your bags should be waiting after you get back to your room. If you arrive late (before 10:00 PM), you can consider having bell services hold your luggage and deliver it in the morning.

You are much more likely to have the airline misdirect your bags than DME. If DME misdirects them, at least they are going to be on WDW property!!! not going to Seattle!!
I have never had an issue with my bags and DME. I've used them more times than I can count....my bags have been in my room within the stated 3-4 hrs after resort checkin. All except one time....that was at POP and I'm really not sure what the story was. I do know I didn't see a lot of Luggage Assistence CMs around the resort, so they may not deliver nearly as frequently as other resorts. We arrived at 11am and my bags never got to my room until 5pm.
So, as already suggested, always pack your carryon with anything you may need to start your fun. That way you can swim, go to a park, or eat without having to hang around waiting for bags to come.

Thanks all for the feedback. I definitely plan on packing extra carry on with a mixture of essentials and will try out DME luggage service.
