DlxDP w/ CL Kicked Our Butts! See us expand before your eyes! 1/19 All Finished!

Oh my - that's quite a lineup!:thumbsup2 Can't wait to see how you handled 3 TS meals most days! DH and I will be doing DxDP with CL in November, but scheduled signature restaurants every day, so we'll be doing Breakfast/Early Dinner, or Early Lunch/Late Dinner each day, filling in with the CL and snack credits as needed...popcorn::

this is how we did it!
worked great, we had a lot of character breakfasts!

OP I like the pictures of the receipts, i always save mine. next time pictures!!

Just caught up with your wonderful reviews :goodvibes

Looking forward to reading more popcorn::

Thanks! How exciting - you don't have long to wait! Enjoy your trip and of course, happy eating!!

Thanks for this review - we have lunch at Chefs on our last day and since we've never been there it's nice to get an idea of what to expect :)

You're welcome! :goodvibes I think Chefs de France will be a nice way to end a trip!

I have to say that the character breakfasts were a great way to start the day! And yes, spreading out those meals when having deluxe dining is sure to go in your favor! :thumbsup2

If anyone wants to know the cost of any one particular thing it is helpful. I did have pictures of the menus too but they seemed too much to add. Maybe I will do a menu post at the end??

Oh my gosh! You have an EPIC food review on here. Thanks for dropping by and reading. :worship: I know you loved California Grill for the ambiance and I have to say that I completely agree.

Stay tuned for more folks! After we get through a quick stop at the Main St. Bakery there are more exciting meals to share. Hey, if work didn't interfere with my reviews, I could get through this faster!! :rolleyes1

This will be a really short dining review... not much to tell about warming stuff up in the microwave from the bakery the night before!!

Sat. 8/21/10:
We were not feeling like dragging our butts anywhere for breakfast this particular morning since we had done the EMH until nearly 3am the night before.

I called to cancel our 7:45 The Wave breakfast... Not sure why I didn't do that the night before. I knew we wouldn't make it - especially that early.

Good for us that we had picked up some items at the Main Street Bakery the night before so that we could burn some snack credits.

For me, I had selected an apple turnover:

MainStBakeryappleturnover.jpg

It was appley and turnovery! What can I say? It was good. No complaints with this delicious goodie. I'm not sure what my blood sugar level was after consuming it but hey, what I don't know won't hurt me!

Em had selected a cinnamon loaf - I mean roll. That thing is a meal for two people. Well, maybe not two but at least it's a meal!! I warmed it up in the room's microwave (at least I got to use one appliance in the villa!!)

MainStBakerycinnamonroll.jpg

We had to finish packing and change resorts this day so it worked out well that we took it easy.

Next up: A real dining review....Beaches & Cream and the start of Club Level options.

I can't believe that I have never tried a Main St Bakery treat :scared1:
Will certainly put that right in 2011

8/21/10: Beaches & Cream at Beach Club Resort

We had just transferred from BLT to BC Resort and had no lunch plans so we decided that as long as we had to wait for our room to be ready we may as well check out this restaurant.

DSC08410.jpg

We arrived at the check-in podium at 11:45am and were seated within a couple minutes. We were offered a small table for two or the counter – we chose the table. Our waitress, Maria, was outstanding. She explained to us our choices with the deluxe dining plan.

Em ordered a strawberry lemonade while I had my usual Diet Coke.

DSC08409.jpg

We decided to share onion rings for the appetizer.

DSC08417.jpg

Oh man - these things were sooooo good!! They were crispy (no sogginess at all) and perfectly battered. And they were a decent size portion. Even sharing this order of rings we didn't finish the entire plate. For our appetites, it was definitely enough to share.

We both ordered burgers, mine without cheese, Em’s with cheese. I have to say that I had high expectations for a delicious, juicy, hot burger and for the most part it didn’t disappoint. However, was it the best burger I had ever had? No. Was it close? Not really. It was good but not great. I did like the fresh lettuce and tomato and the wheat bun was good.

DSC08424.jpg

Now the fries…. They were awesome!! Perfectly crisp and not greasy. Squirt a bit of ketchup on my plate and I was very happy!!

I would eat here again but not necessarily for the entrée….it is the dessert that has me declaring that this was a “must repeat” dining establishment!!!

Em ordered a marshmallow sundae and I ordered the strawberry shortcake.
DSC08426.jpg

DSC08428.jpg

Em loved her sundae – it looked good. I LOVED my strawberry shortcake! It was angel food cake with strawberry sundae topping and ice cream (I didn’t eat that part), and whipped cream with sprinkles. A little bit of heaven in a dish - Delish!!

Maria had seen me taking photos of the menu and told me that she would hook me up. So at the end of the meal when I was given the bill she also gave me a menu to take with me. That was very nice of her.

The bill totaled $44.54 without tip. We had now used all of our 18 dining credits from the BLT package. Now to tackle 42 dining credits between the two of us!!

I am enjoying your reviews. Beaches and Cream looks lovely, we may have to go there after our day at Hollywood Studios. DD wants to go to Ohana, but they are booked.

oh those desserts look amazing! I could really go for one of those Marshmallow sundaes right now!

Joining! Great title!! :rotfl:
Thanks! It's embarrassing to admit that when it comes to self-control I exercised so little during our trip!! :rolleyes1

Beaches & Cream is a great little restaurant and it is very convenient to DHS. Interestingly, Ohana was the only restaurant that "lost" our ADR. You could try to do a walk up but be prepared with a back up plan like Captain Cook's which also has tonga toast.

Thanks for reading!! :goodvibes

I get most excited about the desserts myself! hmmm....I'm actually craving one of those now! :lmao:

This dinner was much anticipated after reading some pretty good dining reviews here on the Disboards.

It had been raining pretty hard for most of the afternoon so before heading out of the hotel for the short walk to Epcot we purchased a couple rain ponchos at the Beach Club Marketplace.

Even with the rain and walking through puddles, we made it to the restaurant 20 min. early for our 7:55 dining time and waited less than 5 minutes before we were seated. But wait, before we were escorted to our table a nice Cast Member offered to take our photo.

DSC08574-1.jpg

You can see that despite our ponchos we were still a bit water logged!!

This restaurant is so unique in the theming.... it really feels like you are underseas with the dim lighting, the blue tile floor with the blue ceiling and the entire expanse of one wall of restaurant being the aquarium. Oh, and the jelly fish looking light fixtures were very whimsical. :)

DSC08577.jpg

DSC08583.jpg

Our table was a small two top right next to the aquarium – score! The tables are arranged in tiers facing the gigantor aquarium. One really cool thing they do is provide a "fish guide" that describes the various fish in the aquarium. It is yours to keep. I didn't notice any killer sharks described in the guide so I have no idea what type of sharks were in the aquarium but it was interesting dining with these critters!!! :scared1:

DSC08598.jpg

Our waiter, Matt from Bulgaria was excellent! He introduced himself and as with all of the wait staff around WDW asked if we were on the dining plan. Yes. Deluxe. I know, crazy huh now that we were officially staying Club Level?

So anyway....we placed our drink orders. This was the one time I encouraged my daughter to have something other than water. There were smoothie choices and some mocktails available. She ended up ordering a kid drink only because the light up Buzz looked cool! She ordered water in the drink cup so I was a bit annoyed that we had to pay full price for the cup with Buzz even though we were on the dining plan and she only got WATER!! But oh well Buzz must have made her happy!!

CoralReefbeverages.jpg

Enought about that now onto the important stuff....the food!!!

We were started with a basket of bread with a square of butter. The bread was nothing special but it was something to gnaw on before we got our meal started.

CoralReefbread.jpg

For our appetizers, Em and I both ordered the Caesar salad which was very good. It was very pungent from garlic and anchovy and there was plenty of fresh grated parmesean on top.

CoralReefCaesarsalad.jpg

Em went with the waiter’s recommendation of the Mahi Mahi with ragu of rock shrimp.

CoralReefMahiMahi.jpg

I decided to try the New York Strip Steak since the lady at the table next to us had that on her plate and it looked really good. The steak was served with roasted potatoes and a small salad with tomatoes tossed in shallot vinaigrette.

NY Strip Steak
CoralReefNYStripSteak.jpg

Em loved her Mahi Mahi – I had some and ate most of her shrimp. It was good. My steak was another story… it was definitely flavorful and cooked medium rare as I had requested. However, it was very tough in places and too much work to get a good tender bite. The roasted potatoes tasted like they had continually been roasted even after they were fork tender. They were tough and rather un-tasty! But on a positive note, the salad was fresh and flavorful.

Dessert was butterscotch crème brulee for me and the chocolate wave for Em. I’m not sure if my crème brulee tasted any different being butterscotch than any of the other crème brulees that I tried (other than obviously the chocolate version at California Grill) but it was good. I tried some of Em’s chocolate wave and it was way too chocolaty for me. She thought so too and didn’t finish it all. She said that she would order something different next time.

Really, the best part of this experience was watching the fishes, the rays, and the sharks in the tank. I asked the waiter if any of the fish were dinner for the sharks. He said that the sharks are fed four times a day but occasionally they gobble up a little nemo or a flounder.

DSC08583.jpg

I think I’ve heard it mentioned before but being seated at the aquarium means that you have un-invited guests join you. Yes, there were some kids that came over to look at the fish up close and I even encouraged one little boy who had a camera to come closer to get his picture but he was polite about it and very thankful.

On the other hand…. There was a large dinner party across from us who were of the nationality for some of the obnoxious tour groups (I know, I know… not cool to be mean but it was an observation throughout our trip and I haven’t mentioned the other examples that will remain entombed in my brain!) It started with a teen girl and a toddler that had invaded our space and were watching the fish. Then they were joined by more kids until we had kids crawling on the ledge and it was beyond annoying at that point since they were on top of us. The parents had no cares – they were finishing their cocktails.

When our waiter delivered the bill I said that it was more than annoying at that point. Instead of saying something he had the restaurant Manager come over and deal with it. The Manager lady nicely told the kids that it was a safety issue with them sitting on the ledge and to please get down. They didn’t immediately disperse but eventually by the 2nd or 3rd pleading they moved away. So…. That was interesting.

The total bill was $100.78 before tip which I felt was over priced for the food but well, you throw in some sharks and rays and I’m willing to fork over the sweet moolah! We had 40 meal credits remaining.

CoralReef.jpg

Despite the food lacking an outstanding rating, I would still return if on the dining plan. With the inflated prices I would only feel that I was getting my money's worth if on the dining plan! But....it was good enough that we really enjoyed this dining experience especially with the excellent service and the ambiance.

Next Up: Club level offerings....

I'm pretty sure those were black tip reef sharks in the giant tank at Coral Reef. We have snorkeled near both black tip reef sharks and white tip reef sharks in Hawaii and French Polynesia. And there are scuba tours available right there in the Seas pavillion in that tank. We've also enjoyed feeding rays on snorkeling tours in F. P. As you can tell, snorkeling is a passion of mine and this is one of the reasons we also enjoy eating at Coral Reef. We've been very fortunate there - were seated by the tank twice last year and not bothered by uninvited guests either time even though I had read enough on the DISboards beforehand to know that it was a real possibility.

I must like chocolate more than you or your daughter. The chocolate wave has my stamp of approval. I agree with you on the caesar salad. :thumbsup2 I've heard the steak at Coral Reef is hit or miss.

How awesome to have been to FP and snorkeled with those things. I've only snorkeled with nurse sharks and that was enough for me! Although saying that I snorkel is a stretch...I'm not so good at breathing through things other than my own mouth/nose! :rotfl2:

Here's a better photo (although not great) of one of the sharks.

DSC08621.jpg

BTW: I should have prefaced my opinion of the choclate wave cake by saying that I'm not a big fan of chocolate. So anyone wanting a real opinion of this dessert should listen to Kathy Z!!! ;)

Thanks for a great Coral Reef review
I really liked the look of DDs Mahi Mahi

Shame that the parents didn't do anything about the kids, but it still sounds like you had a lovely dinner together :goodvibes

Taking a look at your latest photo I retract my thought that it is a black tipped reef shark. I'm not quite sure what kind it is but we have seen divers in that tank every time we have gone. Nurse sharks are a little more agressive than the black or white tip reef sharks so you were brave. I've even spotted a baby hammerhead in the Caribbean. I know I didn't want to see the mama! My DH taught me to snorkel when I was just 26 on our first trip to the Caribbean. The South Pacific had always been a dream of his and we finally made it there in 2004. We loved it so much that we took advantage of a wonderful discounted rate to return the following year. I doubt we'll ever make it there again but those were two "once in a lifetime" trips in a row!

Sorry for this digression from your wonderful foodie report. Keep them coming - yum, yum.

I'm signing on!
I cannot imagine doing the deluxe dining plan. It just seems like an awful lot of food. Although Hubby and I are "Pooh sized", I don't think we could eat three whole meals a day.

I am enjoying your comments on the food. We have the regular dining plan for our Dec. trip and some of the restaurants we chose are on your list. It is alway helpful to get one more opinion on the food/restaurant.

Looking forward to reading more!:goodvibes

Ok, I'm back with a short review of the club level breakfast - there's not a lot to say about muffins and hard boiled eggs.

So.... we were thinking of trying Wolfgang Puck's at Downtown Disney but didn't feel like waiting for a bus to get there. Em was sleeping in and I was getting hungry so the lounge was calling to me!

For standard continental breakfast fare, this stuff was pretty good!

Here's my plate that I ate on the balcony:
DSC08687.jpg

The fruit was consistently fresh and sweet. The muffins, danishes, and breads were all good. I didn't have any bagels or oatmeal so I can't comment on those items.

There were always plenty of selections set out and I didn't notice any one particular item that appeared to be "out of stock"...the staff did a great job making sure everything was perfect. They also kept the room tidy and removed dishes that guests left laying around. Since we typically brought a plate back to our room we didn't really get to enjoy the club ambiance.

Next up: 50's Prime Time Cafe

I will jump on the band wagon and say I wasn't impressed with California Grill at all. That is one I will not be returning too.

I love your report so far!
