Hi all,
Total DLR newb here....I'm an east coast gal who's been to WDW many times and feel I'm an old pro when it comes to planning a trip to the FL parks!! Now looking at finally visiting The Original.

No. Clue.

I know these forums are a good place to start! Any suggestions on a particular thread or two?

My first question: what is it like there in early May in terms of crowds?....weather? I see that the Tinkerbell Half Marathon is the 7-9th next year; that was my first choice of weekends but now I'm thinking I'll back up one week.

Thanks!

.

The Tink 1/2 runs through the 10th, Mother's Day. There is a Mother's Day Brunch that has taken place at DLH for many years and it looks wonderful if that may interest you.

We used to have APs and would go in mid to late May every year to celebrate older DD's birthday. We always thought it was a great time to go before the summer crowds began arriving.

Hydroguy's thread for WDW vets is a fantastic place to start.

EDIT: it's probably worth just perusing the stickied "thread of threads" here as well to see what topics jump out at you:

I know that road races at WDW are getting hugely popular and bring in equally huge crowds!! I am actually a runner but having done one of those WDW weekends, the crowds have scared me away. :( Mother's Day at the parks is actually very appealing, though, so something to weigh both sides on!

If case you still want to go the weekend of Tink, it's a lot smaller than the WDW. They did add a challenge for next year, but Tink only had 13,000 compared to the 20+ that WDW or Princess has. And while a lot of people do stay for the weekend, there are also a lot of locals so that might cut down a little for you.

Also, b/c the hotels surround the parks and most people walk to the parks vs. shuttles for WDW, there's very little impact race morning. If you're at a resort hotel or a good neighbor hotel, it's not a big problem getting to the parks. You might have to wait a few minutes to cross the course, but they're really good about it.

There'll be more people than had there been no race, but not as scary as some race weekends in WDW. :goodvibes

Keep in mind grad nights. We ignored those a couple years ago and paid the price later in the evenings when DL was swamped with HS seniors all hyped up to hit what they could before heading over to DCA. From what I see dates aren't out yet for 2015 grad nights. They usually run mid-May through June I think.

Ok, good to know.....thanks!! Yeah, it was crazy-crowded in The World during the Princess. Buses were also an issue so it will be so nice not to have to deal with all that! I don't have one booked yet, but I'm looking at the Good Neighbor hotels.

Great tip, thank you! :thumbsup2

We spent May 10-15 at DL this year for my birthday. It was a wonderful time to go. The only not wonderful part was the 100+ degree temp every day:scared1:, but I really think that was just a freaky heat wave that was not at all normal. Crowds were fairly low (compared to our October trips), and we were headed back home on the day of the first grad night, so we didn't have to deal with that. I think as long as you plan around the marathon, the first 2 weeks of May are a great option.

Bear in mind runs may eliminate EMH on the day of the run, and DLR has no evening EMH so there won't be any makeup of EMH at the end of the day, either.
