DLH View vs Standard Room

so I am pretty sure we are going to book the DLH for our upcoming trip in August...what I wonder is if we will be dissapointed with a standard non view room or should we go ahead and upgrade to a room with a view? My kids are 18, 11, 6 and 5 and I know for myself and hte 2 oldest we would love a room with a view...my DH's only request was to stay on property so now I have to decide whether a view or not....he doesn't want to know how much, so it is really up to me :rotfl:

My personal view is that I would rather take the money I save by booking a Standard Room at the DLH and let my daughter spend it in the park (or for my Wife, at the Premium Outlet Mall in Palm Desert).

A view is nice if you have a balcony overlooking the ocean in the Caribbean, but for me, I'd rather be in the park at DL, than stare at it from my hotel window.

For the two minutes a day you might spend looking outside, I suggest that there are likely better places for you to spend your money.

I agree with the PP. Although deluxe views are nice, you most likely won't be looking out your window very often, and the money you save getting a standard room would probably be best spent inside the parks considering how expensive everything is. Depending on when you are going, you may actually be offered a free room upgrade if the hotel is booked at low capacity. That's what happened to me and my boyfriend when we went last month. We got a pool view, and I have to say that I looked out the window as often as I could because I wasn't sure if we would ever get that view again. It was beautiful, especially at night, but I wouldn't have wanted to pay extra for it.

I definitely have a different perspective. I think if you are paying that much to stay at the DLH (which I have done many times, thankfully!)--then it is worth it to pony up with the little bit more money for a good view. DLH is one of those hotels that has amazing views if you are willing to pay for them. 14 floors of lucious views! That is really high, and we actually DO spend a good deal of time looking out the window. It is for those times when you go back to the hotel for a rest, and your kids will look out the window while you collapse on the bed. Or those visits when it is holiday time, and you have a spectacular view of the Christmas tree in downtown Disney, and can see the DLR from your room. It is beautiful!

I can tell you from personal experience that paying that much to stay on property falls a bit short when you are looking at a parking lot!

We can't always afford to stay on property at the DLR, but when we can we pay the little extra required to get a great view. It just makes the stay all that more special.:goodvibes

thanks so much for your input and I was thinking the same as you Lisa since my kids are little and my 11 yo already made a comment about one of the pictures posted here overlooking the pool and thought that was pretty cool....I am picking up Disney GC's everytime I go grocery shopping at Safeway for the kids to spend in the park..this way they have their own money to spend without it breaking the bank all at once for us :)

We have only stayed at the DLH once. We usually stay off-property since it is so much more affordable. That being said, when we did stay at the DLH I did indeed spend the extra money for the view. It was hard for me to force myself to do, but I knew that part of the specialness of staying at the expensive on-site hotel was going to be to experience all the Disney-ness we could, and looking at a parking lot when we were back in the room for our rest time was not going to be all that special an experience.

Since you seem to have the expenses pretty well covered with regards to being inside the parks, it sounds like a room with a view is the way to go! :thumbsup2 I don't know if this is the picture your 11-year-old saw, but this is the picture I posted recently of the view my boyfriend and I had on our last trip:

It really was a beautiful view and I loved looking out the window, but we wouldn't have paid for it because we would need the extra money for the parks.

Whatever you choose to do, I'm sure you will enjoy your stay! Staying at the DLH is a truly magical experience. :goodvibes

We had a standard view a couple of weeks ago. A view of the parking lot right there at the front entrance of the hotel. It wasn't too bad though, if you looked beyond the parking lot, you could see the mountains in the distance, which was very pretty.
