DLH Construction Notice for Upcoming Stay

I am a little confused about what is happening around DLH. I see another thread talking about boarded up shops, in preparation for the new hotel, but I thought I heard on the podcast that construction had been pushed back or wouldn't start until next year? (Very likely I am misremembering that comment from the podcast).

Today, I got an email from Disney letting me know there would be construction going on near the hotel for our upcoming stay at DLH. When I booked the trip, there was no warning about that. So, is this a new construction date just announced?

I am very concerned that we are spending extra money to stay on site and will be walking through/staying adjacent to a construction zone. Why doesn't Disney offer steep discounts when things like this happen?

I'm considering changing our reservation to GCH, even though it costs significantly more. :(

Maybe if you call and tell them that you weren't expecting construction when you booked and ask them if they can match your price for GCH, they can work something out.

The construction project has been known for quite some time, but your original reservation should have said something about it because they did know about it at the time.

Here is the exact wording of the letter. It could be they are mostly referring to the west end construction. I am going to call for a little more information, and depending on what they say, I may take the suggestion above to ask for a transfer with a matched price.

We are excited you have chosen Disneyland Hotel as your vacation destination.

In preparation for your upcoming visit, we would like to make you aware of construction that will be occurring near the hotel during your stay. Work has begun on the exciting transformation of the west end of Downtown Disney, and on our first new hotel in almost two decades. Please know that while we work our magic, your comfort and enjoyment is our top priority. While you may see or hear our “work in progress,” please know that the sounds of construction will be limited to the hours of 9am to 5pm.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding. Should you need assistance with your reservation, please contact your original booking agent listed on your confirmation letter. If you booked your stay through the Disneyland Resort or have general questions, please call (714) 956-6425 and one of our Cast Members will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for being our Guest, we wish you a truly extraordinary stay!

Sincerely,
Disney Destinations, LLC

I kind of sounds like someone didn't get the message the hotel was on hold. You don't say your dates. I have a couple upcoming trips and have not received an email.

Sorry, my dates are 11/27-11/30, the week after Thanksgiving

The hotel may be on hold today, but sounds as if Disney's keeping their bases covered for it being re-started at any time, hence the email.

I have hotels stays on either side of DisneyJade, and have not received a notification, but I am fine if there is construction. I prefer DLH over GCH anyway.

Anybody seen what the menus look like during the refurb? We're going next month and trying to figure out quick breakfasts (and Dole Whips).
