We just started planning a trip to DL over spring break. I know that it will be busy, but we are pretty good about touring the parks in busy seasons.

We are treating my mom to 5 nights at either the DLH or PPH. She is going through a rough time right now and has always wanted to go to DL or WDW. I'm so excited!!! This is also our first time to take a grandparent with us and think it will be great for the kiddos.

This also means that we can have a night without kids, so give me all your suggestions. Nothing to pricey, but we are pretty open to anything. DH and I usually travel by ourselves with kids, so we don't get any time away.

Not sure of the age, or physical condition of Grammy, but be sure to keep that in mind. She may find it all a bit overwhelming and be willing to take the younger kids back to the room for a nap in the middle of the day, or she may be thrilled to be at Disneyland and want to tour Commando style. She may want to peruse the shops, or do her best to get on every attraction every day. Just be prepared that there will be an added dynamic to your touring style and try to allow for it. 5 days is more than enough time to do everything without being rushed. Keep her needs and wants in mind, as well as your own so everyone has a great trip. Also, maybe she would like an evening or afternoon on her own or with a grandchild of her choice for some special time together. Don't forget to offer this as an option to make her trip extra special.

A little more information. Grammy is in her early 50's and in very good health condition. She is a middle school science and history teacher and is very active with her students and travel every year with them. She loves Disney, but just has not gotten to go to any of the parks. We don't tour commando style, as we are DVC members at both parks and go once or twice a year. We will also don't stay at the parks late and take breaks during the day. Our theory is if we don't get to it on this trip, we'll do it the next one.

We will definitely will let her have what ever rest time she needs. DH and I will have one evening to ourselves and I am not what we will do.

Grammy is in her early 50's !!!!!!!!! Sorry but I find that incredibly amusing. She is probably only 4-5 years older than me....

LOL Judy, me too. So... if you loved Disney and this was your first trip to Disneyland, how would you want to do it? Perhaps we need to prepare rangermom for the reality of a hale and hearty first time visitor's touring desires. I for one, would probably want a day on my own after I got the lay of the land to do things that were hard for the kids to keep up with. Or maybe take a tour, or take one or two of the grandkids for the day. I'm sure she'll enjoy seeing her grandkids enjoy Disneyland, but remember this is her first trip and she'll want to experience alot too, probably including Space Mountain, Tower of Terror & or Screamin' over Calif. She might want to sit and enjoy a glass of wine at the Wine Country Trattoria. I guess I'm trying to say that there are things that she might enjoy that would never get on your usual schedule.

I think that it is great that you are sharing your DVC points to bring Mom to DLR.
Have a magical trip!

Yep, she is a young Grammy. She actually became at a really young age and picked the name Grammy because she thought it did not make her sound old. She was originally born in New Orleans and we are cajun. But we have all lived away from East Texas/LA for awhile, but we always go to BB and I can't wait to take her. I really wish Tiana's Showboat Jubilee was still showing. She would have loved that. We watched it six times over Thanksgiving.

She doen't like too scary of rides, so I don't think she will ride TOT or Cali Screamin, but she will definetly be interested in HM, SpM, and POC. We will probably do one character meal, but not sure which one yet. We ahve done GK and AG in the past.

Also an update on our family dynamics. It will be DH (36) Me(32) DS (10) DD(6) and DS (4). My avatar picture is a little out dated and from Nov 2007.

Haha, I was going to ask how old Grammy was because I'm 38 and a Gram. :) We do commando style. :) I think you should follow your style and I bet you Grammy will keep up with NO problems. :)
