DL thru DVC - book 11 months out

I saw I can book Disneyland Hotel 11 months out using my points. Since this is for DL's 50th celebration do you think we need to book right out at 11 months? Would they only have a certain amount of rooms set aside for DVC or is that not how it works?

Regardless, I'm wondering how fast the 3 Disney hotels will fill up for this event. I do see it will last 18 months long. I think we'll try late into the event so it might not be so busy.

My understanding is that you can use points to book one of the options in the "Collections" as long as the destination resort has availability. In other words, as long as there is availability remaining at the Disneyland Hotel, you can book a room there using DVC points.

That said, something might be different for the 50th anniversary time though, so it wouldn't hurt to ask MS.

FWIW, I wouldn't worry too much about availability if I were going towards the end if the celebration, unless the trip were planned for an otherwise busy time for DL. Have no idea what the usuual busy seasons might be for DL - I'm sure they are not exactly the same as for WDW, LOL!

Assume you already know that once you use points for one of the "Collections", you can't later change yor mind and use the points for a DVC resort or for an II exchange. That might be a good reason not too book DL too far ahead of your planned travel dates.

I would think its just like the "year long" celebrations they have at WDW. Itd be more important during peek times. Also keep in mind DL is seen like a weekend getaway so long holiday weekends are maybe a bit more important than at wdw.

I suspect there is a separate inventory. Our experience getting a room at the Grand Californian last summer: my sister couldn't get a room for a couple of her dates using cash (they were sold out), but yet DVC had plenty of availability for the same nights...

I know that I worried about committing the points (since the transaction is final)...

The 50th has generated a lot of interest in visiting DL next year. (I want to go back again ! )
