DL in June - How would you dress the kids?

Hi all! Everyone has been so helpful on this board so I hope this doesn't come off sounding like a stupid question! lol We went to DL/DCA in June of 2010 and I remember the weather being pretty mild except maybe when you had to stand for 30mins+ in line for a ride. We will be going back to DL mid-June and I'm trying to decide how to dress the kids. I was thinking shorts and t-shirts would be the obvious choice (+ bring pants for the cooler nights), but then again - my 4-year old is a handful. Her idea of fun is throwing herself on the floor so her knees often get bruised, and if she's tired, she will become the naughtiest child you have ever seen. I do foresee keeping her in the City Mini stroller until it's time for rides, but I'm starting to think that maybe longer pants (jeans, khakis) might be better for her. Do you all think this may be too hot for LA that time of year?

When we went in late June one year we wore shorts and a shortsleeve shirt and a sweatshirt. Mornings and evenings were cool. Can even be a little drizzly some mornings. You might want to consider capris. They are a little shorter and lighter than jeans but still cover the knees. That's what I wear to work on hot days when I'd rather be wearing shorts. :) Also, go back to your room for an afternoon nap and that might prevent the over tiredness from occuring. We always do and we don't have small children anymore.

We went in June 2008 and it was miserable hot.... granted, it wasn't typical weather for Disneyland - it was a nasty heatwave. I think the coolest day we had was 97 degrees and the humidity was insane. I would say check the weather forecast as it gets closer to your trip just to be on the safe side!

We were also there June 2010. At the time we had a 10 month old, 4 year old and 6 year old. They all wore shorts and t-shirts. They all had a lightweight hoodie they wore in the morning and in the evening. I did bring a couple of pairs of pants for each of them but they never left the hotel room. My 10 month old alternated between the stroller and a baby carrier. My 4 year old mostly walked but sat in the stroller a few times when I was wearing the baby.

I agree completely with taking an afternoon break. We went back tot he room at about 1 everyday and then went back to the parks around 6. Everyone took a nap, then we hit the pool for an hour or so. After that everyone had a quick shower and we grabbed dinner right before we headed back in for a couple more hours.

We went to DL in early July and the weather was perfect shorts/tee or tank weather. Very comfortable compared to WDW in the summer. :lmao: I agree capris are a great idea for a knee scraper. Save alot of trips to First aid. Carry some bandaids and neosporin too!

June Gloom. Overcast in the mornings, perfect in the afternoons, and a tad chilly in the night. We wore t-shirts and shorts in the morn./day and then went back to the hotel for jeans and hoodies for the night.

wow this is one of those questions that can never be answered...every year it seems like the weather is different than the year prior...I can tell you this though...CA has not had very much rain as a whole this entire year...usually our rain season is Nov-Apr and sometimes into May...I think I can count on 1 hand the amount of rain we've gotten so far...with that being said, it is my experience that when we dont have much seasonal rain, the temps tend to be hotter in the summer. Therefore, Im thinking this will be a very VERY hot summer and by mid June it will be hot already...good thing is that its cool in the am and after the sun goes down but I think you're going to have to do a couple things...

1. Although I would start checking the weather 10 days out, you are really going to need to keep a daily check on it knowing that the forecast may even change the day before you leave...For a long time I used weather.com but then my friend and I started doing tests and found that whatever the temps were, we had to add 5º to it to make it accurate..then I started using accuweather.com and that was good but I now use http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Anaheim&state=CA&site=SGX&lat=33.8108&lon=-117.917 this website has been the most accurate for me to date...

2. you will probably have to pack for both very warm weather and somewhat mild weather which totally sux but better to be prepared than not...

however, call it what you will but I think this summer is going to be a scorcher...I would love for mother nature to prove me wrong:rotfl2:

Thank you all for your input! The Summer we were at DL it wasn't terribly hot...as I mentioned previously I felt it mostly while standing in line. I am NOT a Summer person by any means and I was okay in jeans. I am thinking for my youngest I may either go the capri route or there were some jeans I saw on Gap.com that were called "legging jeans" (jeggings lol). They seemed a bit sturdier than cotton shorts, but not as hot as regular weight jeans. We will be onsite at the DLH so I think we will do as we did a few years ago & prob. return to the hotel to rest mid-day. It was pretty chillly in the mornings.

Convertible Pants. :cool2:

My 7-year-old loves these. They are just pants that you can roll up to capri length. Keeps you cool in the morning and evenings, and when it gets hot midday, you can just roll them up. Elastic waste for extra comfort and saves you from having to carry an extra pair of pants. Just roll them up or down and go!

Here's a link to the ones I usually buy. I get them at The Children's Place.

Ah - good idea and thanks for the link! The ones you posted seem pretty affordable too if I can find enough of them in stock (either online or instore) for my 4-year old. :) I never shopped at The Chldren's Place before but I see a lot of coupons floating around.

Just wanted to say I am so grateful for this community! Everyone seems to genuinely want to help everyone else and no one has made me feel as if any of my "planning" questions were 'dumb' ones. lol
