Hi All,

Can anyone who has experience with DL and Maxpass and Fastpass help me understand how this system works so I can help a friend who is going in May understand. She has never been to DW and has no experience with FP+ system, but she's got the DL app on her phone and is ready to learn. Any info or experiences that I can share with her to help her and her family (DH and DS 3yr) have a wonderful time in DL would be appreciated. Thanks!!

DL does not use the FP+ system which allows you to reserve 3 fast passes per day up to 60 days ahead of time and you can select a time. At DL, you can only book one FP, once you are in the park and the time is specified (you cannot pick it. You can get another FP after 2 hours or when the FP expires. You can either use the app or physically go to a FP machine to get a ticket. If you do not want to pay for MaxPass, you can only physically get the ticket.

Did I hear that right, you can only redeem one FP through MaxPass every 90 minutes? Yikes.

Can you use a mix of MaxPass FP and paper FPs?

MP is a method of booking a FP. It’s not a separate type of pass. MP gives you the ability to book a FP on your phone and shortens the window between selections from two hours to 90 minutes (plus a few other things).

There is no limit on how often you can redeem a FP. The limit is only on how often you can book them.

Edit to clarify: The 90 minute rule only applies if you are booking a FP for more than 90 minutes out. If the first FP is less than 90 minutes out at the time of booking, then you can book your next one as soon as the return window opens. The one exception to that is, if you want to book the second FP for the same ride, then you must redeem the first FP before booking the second (you can’t hold two active FP for the same ride).

You can book another as soon as you use the first, typically. Its not 1 every 90 minutes, unless its a Max Pass for later in the day (day at 9am you get a MP for Guardians for 12pm; next MP is available at 10:30).

But don’t you have to book them to redeem them?

I know they are both the same in that they are both FPs, MP is just done on your phone and saves you from walking. Was wondering if you could use both mediums rather than waiting 90 minutes in between but my guess is no.

So if I have a FP, for say Pirates, from 9:30-10:30 am, and I use it at 9:45 am therefore it’s redeemed, I exit the ride at 10:00 am... can I then book another FP from 10:00-11:00 am assuming something is available? Or do I need to wait until 11:00 am to book the next one?

Sorry for the confusion on my part! we use FP at WDW without issue and absolutely love it. DL is obviously different so just making sure I understand before I enter.

Sorry, my break at work had ended and cut my last reply short :) Yes, once you use your MP/FP, you are eligible for another. I've heard there is a 30 minute "cooling off" period where you can't get another MP *IF* you happened upon a "instant" MP (that is, one where the FP window starts in 5 minutes from when you got the MP)... However, I've never noticed that "cooling off" period after my "instant" MP.

You can book as soon as your return window opens or after 90 minutes, whichever comes first. The only caveat to that is you can’t hold two FP for the same ride, so in that situation you would have to redeem the first one and then book a second.

Just FYI, there's no FP for Pirates at DLR :)

FP at Disneyland is Legacy FP that used to be at WDW prior to FP+. There are only a couple of differences (extra perks) that are added if one purchases MP. But beyond those perks, they are exactly the same system.

Differences:
Max time between pulls (standard FP is 2h while MP is 1h30m even if pulled from the kiosk and not through the app).
Ability to cancel a FP pulled through MP (you cannot cancel a FP if you do not have MP)
Cancelled FPs are available to pull for anyone with MP (FPs all out? Keep checking! Someone might cancel something).
PP+ (all Photopass photos, ride photos, and dining photos are available the day of purchase of MP).

Legacy FP (and MP) operate with you can pull your next FP when you're window opens up or after 2h/1h30m (MP) have passed. Whichever occurs first. You do not have to have used the pass to book another. It's a much more guest friendly system in my opinion than FP+ is.

The exception is if the time for the next time is less than 30 minutes after pulling. Then you must either wait 30 minutes or you can use the pass and be able to book immediately.

You also cannot hold a FP for the same ride at the same time. So if you already have a Space pass, you cannot book another until you have used that Space pass even if your window had opened up.

Show FPs you still have to go to the kiosks to obtain. They do not count against you like they do at WDW.

There is technically no limit (beyond number of FP rides) to how many FPs you can hold. Your only limit is that you can only book one at a time between either park (they are linked although they didn't used to be) until your next window opens.

Just another note- the MOMENT you use your fastpass (scan to get into the fastpass line) you can get on your app and get another maxpass before you've even gotten on the ride you are using the fastpass for. My friends and I did that alot last October.
You do need to scan it so it's showing as used. Like others have noted above the 90 minute Maxpass rule is if you get a fastpass that is for more than 90 minutes out. Also note that regular Fastpass (you don't have to pay for - need to go to ride fastpass area to get fastpass) has a 120 minute rule.
So on Maxpass - at 9am you get a 12 pm Fastpass you can get another one at 10:30 - Plus you can get the next using your phone from anywhere.
On regular fastpass machines - at 90 you get a 12pm Fastpass you can get another one at 11am. You have to go to the ride fastpass machine to get anther one.

Maxpass saves alot of time both as you don't have to run to the ride to get a fastpass - you just do it on your phone. Well worth the $10 per person.

NOTE: also with Maxpass is photopass. Not sure alot of people use it but it is something you get for your $10 per person.

Ahh okay now I see the full picture! Makes perfect sense. Thanks everyone I really appreciate you taking time to explain it all. Such a simple system really but a few details were getting lost in translation for me.

Hearing the no Pirates FP made me think so I checked what FPs are available and it’s pretty limited. That’s a bummer!

Most of the time the rides that don't have FP don't really need it; wait times tend to be fairly short. They did have FP for Pirates waaaay back in the day when the system first went online, but took it out in 2006 when they realized it was hurting rather than helping.
