DJ Questions

Just wanted to check to see if this is the standard. Our wedding is Nov 22, 2010 which is a Monday and our DJ will be costing us $1750 because we are being charged for 5 hours. Our reception is at ADH and our pre reception is here too on the 2nd floor. Because they are in the same location this is why i have to pay more. We also are having a voilinist for the ceremony/pre-reception so it just seems too much. Just wondering if anyone else ran into this? THanks!

I don't know what the actual prices are but as I understand it they charge more for the DJ if you're using the same venue as the DJ needs to set up before the pre reception even if they won't be playing until the reception.

At ADH, your price includes a Disney technician for lighting and audio. ADH is considered a "Disney Tech-ed" venue, which means any DJ (including Disney DJs) performing at ADH hooks into to the ADH sound system. This requires the Disney tech to be present which raises the labor cost.

Our reception was also at ADH and believe me, having the DJ and the lighting made all the difference in the world. The DJ really kept the party going (even on a Monday afternoon). Everyone was up dance the entire time and we got some great lighting effects.

I think it's that much because ADH is so huge and has a stage and a system that the DJ hooks into. The price is so high because a technician is also included in the price. My DJ is only costing $1400 for 5 hours and I wasn't told about a technician.

Yes, 1 hour cocktail and 4 hour reception.

I am also having my reception at ADH, but my cocktail hour somewhere else, does anyone know if the cost would still be that high in this case. I am already very annoyed with how expensive the DJ is going to be, especially considering DF's cousin is a DJ and would have done it really really cheap.

The only thing that deters most from using an outside dj is that Disney charges a set up/lighting package fee that's in the $800+ range and then you would still have to pay your dj. It's not worth it in some cases.

Plus, you're not allowed to use any outside vendors at Atlantic Dance Hall besides photo and video...

A few things to keep in mind-

-Sometimes you are charged for five hours, even though there might not be a cocktail hour, because the DJ must be set up before the guests arrive. It depends on the location. I do a lot of 5 hour (1hr cocktail/4hr reception) combos.

-The DJ price, while expensive, includes Disney labor as well. What Disney charges for the DJ is not what the DJ makes, it's all part of a package that includes the set up and use of a dance floor, rigging and lighting, stage set up, Disney Labor, etc. etc, and the DJ labor as well.

So, that's why even if you bring in an outside DJ, Disney charges the outside entertainment fee, to cover their costs (as well as a little profit, like all businesses, right?)
