I was reading in a facebook where someone made their own dog shampoo out of baby shampoo and coconut oil.
I cannot find it for the life of me!! Has anyone made this? How much of each did you use?

Aww. I don’t think it is specifically for sensitive skin, but dog feels really good after bath. He doesn’t have allergies, though. I know that’s difficult to deal with. It seems like the baby shampoo and coconut oil would be worth a try, as maybe a bottle of this might be. I did see liquid coconut oil the other day somewhere, which might make it easier to mix with baby shampoo. Jars of coconut oil are kind of clumpy. What kind of dog do you have and what else have you tried for his allergies?

He's a pit/cane corso mix, a big baby! The vet told us to give him zyrtec and we do a spray of water/vinegar mix. But that's when I can catch him lol. It works great if he doesn't rub it off on the carpets. But I was thinking a new shampoo could help too.554095

Vinegar for scratching? I wonder if that stings if the skin is open from scratching? Just thinking out loud. Sometimes in winter skin gets dry. Our vet (now retired) always recommended for our large dogs putting a teaspoon of vegetable oil in their food daily to keep their skin soft, and it worked, as it would get a little flaky from the dry heat in the house. He doesn’t wear a coat or other clothes around the house, does he? I’ve seen that a lot lately and skin doesn’t “breathe” that way, and there can be allergies. We used to watch a dog whose skin smelled awful from always having sweaters on. Some switch out the food. I wish I could give you some of the Buddy Wash to try. Too many baths can also be drying as they wash away the natural oil that lubricates the skin under the fur. We hardly ever bathe our dog (with his breed you’re not supposed to) unless he rolls in something stinky. If the skin gets scabby it can become a vicious cycle because they want to scratch it more as it itches when healing, You might need a collar for a while while you’re figuring this out. Good luck! PM me if you want to talk more.

I don't use the spray if I can tell the skin is raw. Which is usually if he hasn't let me spray him in awhile, he runs as soon as he sees the bottle. I never thought about putting the oil with his food!! That may really help. He doesn't wear any clothes. So thankfully that isn't causing any problems. I do notice that when it's raining (we've had LOTS of rain lately!) he isn't as bad. So I really think it's a grass allergy. He loves to roll in the grass. So maybe we can find some wipes or something to wipe him down when he comes inside. I feel so bad for him when he goes through this. It's like a bad hot spot. One day I couldn't get him to stop itching so I put a frozen bag of peas on his spot, he loved it! Poor guy. Thanks for all of your help!! I'm going to try that shampoo. If anything at least he'll smell amazing.

Grasses and pollens could definitely be culprits! Instead of wipes, just try plain water. Less irritating than chemicals. Sort of like when a baby has diaper rash. Using wipes will make it worse. Just tub with plain water and mild soap. (For the dog try skipping the soap or just use a tiny bit.)

Our vet recommended we bath our pup with Stratford Pharmaceuticals Keto-C Medicated Dog Shampoo, you can find on Amazon and others. Might check into it.

On a side note if you can afford it getting an allergy test is very helpful n pinpointing the triggers and then you know your options.

After many years of trying different products on my dogs, I found Isle of Dogs products. They are excellent.

Neighbor's red nose pit struggles with allergies and the meds zoned her out. Picked her up a jar of local honey from the farmer's market and suggested they try giving her a tiny spoonful each day to see if it would help. Better results than the meds, and she's peppy and happy.

That's a genius idea!!!! Thank you so much.
