Hey, kids!
The last few trips I've taken to the Wonder World of The Mouse, I wound up staying at The Wilderness Lodge, which quickly because my favorite resort. This trip, looking for something a little cheaper, I booked myself into the bayou section of Dixie Landings/Riverside. I think I'm going to be really happy with my decision - the grounds look fantastic - but thought I'd see if others who've stayed there recently might weigh in on the resort.

I know there have been complaints in the past about the bus system over there not being the best, but that's not a huge concern for me. Anyone who relies on New Jersey Transit on a daily basis knows that, comparatively speaking, Disney's bus system is a snap, even at its worst. Plus, I'm not really a "hurry up and get there" kinda guy.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!
Richard

I Love that place I have stayed many times . I was there last year it was still great . I think there is a FAQ thread about the DL/POR.
Have a great time :D

I've stayed in the mansions twice and really liked the resort. It's such a pretty place. :)

I have a lot of pictures of the resort, you can find them HERE. There are links at the top of the page that will show you around the resort.

We just got back from there yesterday. The bus transportation was excellent except for one 45 minute wait returning to POR from AK. I learned from Tyler on the transportation board that in the mornings the bus stops first at the west depot, then north, then east and its last stop is the south depot. The south depot which is the one in front of the main building was always very crowded and everyone getting on from there has to stand or wait for another bus if it is too full. In the afternoon and evenings, the buses stop first at the south depot. We always got on at the east depot in the mornings and always had a seat. We stayed in Oak Manor. The grounds are beautiful. I think it is even a prettier resort than the Polynesian or Beach Club. The only thing I didn't like is how big it is. If you get in a building that is far from the food court or main pool, it could seriously affect your stay at POR. I really loved their food court. I had never stayed at a Disney resort that had one and I thought it was great.

The Bayou was our first experience with Disney resorts. And we loved it. I always made the walk to the food court in the early morning for coffee and light breakfast. It was soooo peaceful. We would be staying there again next week except for the FTP. It was such a great deal that my dh and dd wanted to stay at the Polynesian for a change. But we loved the pool, food court and bus system at POR (DxL). I do not ever hesitate to recommend it to my friends. Have a terrific time and don't forget to try to see Bob the Piano Man in the lounge there. He is really wonderful.

dizdreamer,
I'm another NJ transit rider, when I read all the complaints on this board and hear when at WDW about Disney Transportation I realize most are not used to public transportation. I've been to POR (Dixie) 12 times and just love it. The landscaping is beautiful and relaxing. I prefer the mansions to the bayou just my personal choice. When I'm at WDW I'm convinced my head must be in the clouds I don't see all the problems I read about on the boards. I've also stayed at the Poly, Contemporary, Wilderness, Port Orleans French Quarter and All Star Sports and Music. The only ones I would not return to are the All Stars too noisy. I'm sure you will enjoy this resort.

Before we bought DVC we always stayed there. I loved it!!! Think it is one of the best resorts at Disney. Since we are DVC owners our home resort is Boardwalk and I love that too, but we always try to stop off at Dixie Landings for a meal or a stroll.

You will love it!

I'm another Jersey Girl, and PO Riverside is my favorite resort. I have to agree, people not from this area just don't understand about public transportation! I wish that NJ Transit would take a few lessons from Disney Transportation!

Ditto!! Same goes here! (only we own at OKW now;)

Still would choose Dixie landings over any other moderate! Have a great time! You'll love it!:D

We have stayed there twice in the past and love it. My goal is to stay at each resort at least once. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Love it love it love it! Stayed there 9 times out of 15! Going back in September!

I have stayed at Wilderness Lodge and Dixie Landings and I love them both. Dixie Landings I thought was just as nice as Wilderness Lodge just different themes. So dont worry I believe you won't be disappointed.

Dixie Landings is still our favorite; it was the first place we stayed in Disney. My kids love the trundle bed (if you have five people in the room). We always ask to stay near the West Bus Depot - it seems to be less crowded than the main Depot. Anyway, you will love it. Never had any problem with maid service. We loved hopping on to the boat that goes down to Downtown Disney. It's great to just ride in the evening. Enjoy!

Laura,

Those are great photos! Thanks for posting your link :). I think we're going to stay at PO-R in December before our OKW reservation if AP rates ever come out.

We will be staying at POR for the second time in two years in less than a week!

We booked the FTP and originally there were no rooms open at POR...I was so disappointed. I kept calling back and was able to get into the resort....the landscaping and atmosphere at this resort is wonderful. Have stayed at OKW and Poly and I liked POR better than both of those. It's a very pretty place and I found it to be very quiet. We didn't mind returning to the hotel after the parks closed becuase we loved the quiet pool near our room.

We stayed in the Bayoo and I requested it again for this year. I have read alot about people requesting certain buildings - wanting to be close to the restaurants, but I honestly did not mind the walk...the meandering walkways were very pretty and peaceful. I can't remember what building we stayed in, but it was about a 5 minute walk to the foodcourt and general store.

Enjoy!!!

We loved Dixie Landings (now known as Port Orleans Riverside). When we first checked in and were walking around the resort I said "If this is what living in the South is like, I'm there!" LOL....we lived in PA at the time.

Its just an incredibly beautiful resort. You can check out my scrapbook of our trip there at:

We really loved it there and plan to return in the future.

Just back last night from POR with the FTP! I was so apprehensive about staying at this resort due to some of the posts here at the disboards, but we absolutely loved it! We stayed at Magnolia Terrace (the Mansions section) and thought the resort was beautiful--grounds are so pretty and the resort is so peaceful to return to after a long day at the parks. We liked it better than the Dolphin!! We'll definitely return to POR!:bounce:

I knew I'd come to the right place, and you guys proved me right. Thanks so much for all the input! I suspected I would be pleased with the resort, but you guys went a long way toward soothing my neurotic side. And thanks to everyone who posted personal photos... each and every one of you rocks!

Richard

Just thought I'd add my two cents. DXL/POR is just so beautiful. Our DS7 is the one who requested we stay there this time. It is like his second home, ours too. He has been going there at least 2 or 3 times a year since he was 3 weeks old. He knows more about the resort than most adults. It is so funny.

When we stayed at AKL for 7 nights and WL for 7 nights in Dec. our son asked when are we going to stay at DXL again. Well as you can see, even staying at the Deluxes, he still loves DXL.

Well, have a great time. We intend to in a few more days.

Diane

Actually, we went 3 years ago and had a really nice time. Our room was right next to a quiet swimming pool and the laundry room so it was nice to be able to come home at night, go for a swim and do a few loads of laundry. The people there are really friendly and we never had a problem. The only thing that I didn't like was the price...it was a little "rustic " for the amount of money we spent to stay there. Have FUN!
