Dixie Chicks tour struggling.

Concertgoers Sing the Blues Over Ticket Prices
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060609/ENT01/606090433/1033

In my area tickets for Dixie Chicks were 65 or 50 dollars.

Their album sales were good, but who wants to pay a minimum of 50 dollars for a concert? I'm going to a couple this summer, but it's not like the old days when for 10 or 20 dollars you could go to every one you wanted to. I read that AI ticket sales are doing well, and also Wicked tickets, but alot of bands are hurting because their ticket prices are too high.

Thanks for reminding me to buy tickets.

Our tickets don't even go on sale until tomorrow. The concert is July 23rd. I'll be online at 10am tomorrow buying my tickets. Complaining about $50 concert tickets? We don't go to many concerts but the last tickets we bought were $75.

you know Contry music fans generally dont like it when somone critises the Presdent no matter what Party he is from, it was a bad bussisness deccision for them, if they sang rick music all would be ok in there world. You have to know your audiance.

The fact remains that when I was young, we went to every concert that came through. It's a fact that prices have never been this high, and how is the ordinary person supposed to afford to go to everyone he wants to see and pay 50 bucks a pop. (and 50 bucks are the cheap seats!) Maybe you can afford that, but the average person can't. I mean, maybe they'll go to one or two, but not tons, like in the old days. Now people have to be more selective.

I'd say if you think 50 bucks is nothing for a ticket, you are a little out of touch with what a normal person can afford.

In this day and age when $50 doesn't fill the average gas tank, I do not think $50 is a lot of money for a night out.

Well I don't either, and you might not, but the fact is, ticket sales are down across the board and the industry seems to think that it is because of high ticket prices.

I really don't think that people are buying concert tickets the way they used to. You can speak for yourself, but I think the numbers are speaking for themselves.

Pop Daddy, you are so right! Country music is about America, Mom and Apple Pie. Even the cover of Time Magazine couldn 't give them the boost they had hoped for. They may reach a cross over audience but Toby Keith will beat them at the box office every time, and for the reasons you stated.

oh no, I'd planned on buying tickets tomorow morning when they went on sale for the Houston show.....I'll be really bummed if they cancel our show, but if they don't cancel Austin's amybe I can catch them there......I have to say I love the Chicks and I'm actually listening to the new cd as we read.....

Their album is number one two weeks in a row and at the same time their concert tickets aren't selling. Makes me wonder if people like their music but don't want to hear their rhetoric.

From the article linked above, it sounds like Houston was already canceled.

That would be me - although I won't buy their new album because I don't want to give them another dollar out of my pocket.

I saw them many years ago when they were an opening act for Tim McGraw - I think it was 99? I saw them twice more and to be honest, that first concert was their best, and I really disliked the '03 show - it was way too commerical.

Eh, many touring acts are having problems. This isn't just exclusive to the Dixie Chicks.

As for $50 not being much for tickets, personally I'd rather devote that money X 2, the parking cost, the gas cost, price of eating out before hand and the price of gettting a snack and a drink afterwards to the high cost of gas and food. Watching ANYONE for the current prices just isn't worth it to me.

long post!! :rotfl2:

Their political issues aside, I just don't think they are all that good.

Are you kidding? The Dixie Chicks are hotter than hot right now! Who would remember them if they didn't piss off their conservative fan base? The very people who hate them are responsible for the success! Not many people had really heard of the Dixie Chicks outside the country music world until they spoke out for what they believe in. But people made much ado about nothing and now they have a wide variety of listeners. They have already said they are very happy with the change in their fanbase and say that is the fanbase they wanted to target all along. If country music lovers associate themselves with Mom and apple pie and what Americans really should be, not like those bad American Dixie Chicks who are so bad for exercising their freedom of speech, well the Dixie Chicks are probably better off without that fan base anyway. I think they are true musicians in that the integrity of their music means a lot to them, and this is the message they wanted to put out there. More power to them. I'd love to see the concert but with 3 kids under 5 its not happening. Some day though!

I think you're right. Even though they are currently number one, their overall album sales are way down from their previous album. Also noteworthy is that it was a 'slow week for new album releases' according to Yahoo news with sales 'down 10% compared to the same week a year ago'.

.

Really? I haven't been able to get a Toby Keith ticket in two years. He is coming back to Ct. this summer but we will be in Hawaii. Even so, they are hard tickets to snag.
