Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

Yummm, Cobb salad!!! It tastes just as good at home!!!:goodvibes You just have to add all the high calorie stuff to it, bacon, eggs etc.

So cute that Connor wanted his little green alien men in his picture with the car, He is such a cutie pie!!

I love meandering through shops and looking at displays at the parks. There is SO much to see and surprises around every corner.

Looking forward to more.

Why is it I never quite make it to reply on the actual day you update...I mean really...what is my deal!!!!

First of all congrats on surviving your first week of school!!! I'm wishing you a very speedy year!!!!!

Secondly, to miss Brown Derby...oh the horror LOL...that is always a great meal in my book and I think you made an excellent choice in entrees I LOVED the Cobb Salad and just like you I could eat it every day and be happy!! I have never been brave enough to try the grapefruit cake, but it does look amazing!!!

Love Connor's green men I want some now...to think the crazy things I could do with those in my classroom LOL!! They could help demonstrate!!!!!

OOH...I hate Snakes...oh yes I do!!!

Another great review for Brown Derby! :thumbsup2

I see no problem in letting Connor play with his little army guys at the dinner table. ;)

I have to tell you this since you're also a mother of a Connor. My Connor has recently informed me (at the age of 5), that he wants his name spelled ConnEr. His reasoning is that ConnOr should be pronounced "Con-NOR" (as in "that is neither here nor there") and therefore his should be with an ER. :sad2:

Sounds like ya'll had a good time even though Charles was being a pain. Glad he did at least show up later so he and Chelsea could ride ToT and RnR. Low blood sugar huh? What did he expect when he doesn't eat??!!

Chelsea's box turned out great. We've done the paint your own pottery before. Clay did a castle for Hannah years ago and it turned out really nice. Love the little green men! Hannah and I were in Target the other day and they had a bucket of army men, some Buzz Lightyear stuff and a Woody doll. I seriously thought about buying the army men but reconsidered since Hannah probably wouldn't play with them. LOL When Alison was 3 or 4 she had a Woody doll and a Jessie doll. Toy Story was her favorite movie. When she got older I went through some of her toys and got rid of Woody and Jessie. :scared1: Yes...I'm now regretting that decision! LOL

Glad the school year has started out smoothly for you. We've got a few more weeks before school starts here. I'm ready! LOL

Oh my goodness, Charles missed the Brown Derby?! Although I can't believe it and I would have been upset also, you handled it well. You still got to enjoy your delicious looking meal with all of the members of your family who really wanted to be there.

Connor's little green men are adorable! And he and Chelsea indeed look like young movie stars.:goodvibes

I'm an Alfred Hitchcock fan too, but I've never heard of Rebecca. Off to Netfliks to add it to my queue!:thumbsup2

I am SO glad that you enjoyed Brown Derby so much. I generally order the very same thing - the Hollywood, the Cobb salad and the grapefruit cake. And aren't the rolls just delish?!

Too bad Charles wasn't feeling it (pfffffttt as LL said!) but I'm glad you didn't let it get to you for too long. His big fat loss. ;)

LOVE the little green men. I almost want a set.

:scared: to the snake. That would totally freak me out.

I think green aliens at the table is precious!

That er/or/ar ending is difficult for even a lot of adults. It's great that he's running it around in his brain, though. It is hard for kids to get which is which ending. The lawyER gave the doctOR a dollAR. Not a lick of difference in the ending sounds, yet all different! This education stuff 'ain't' always so easy! ;)

Can't believe Charles missed Brown Derby!

Connor was funny with his little green men!

Yuck snakes! I'm right there with you! I probably would have screamed!

Great update. I would have been LIVID too, I just don't understand it...
Funny the little green men keep making appearances throughout the day - where did he buy those? Funny how people have different experiences at different restaraunts, I am glad you guys enjoyed Brown Derby and the grapefruit cake - just not for me but that's what Disney is all about, so many choices you can find something that you just love! Can't wait to hear what your blunder is tomorrow.
Lesley

Yum! The Brown Derby sounds delicious!

Connor's little green men knew what they were doing appearing at a dinner at the Brown Derby. They're no fools!

Connor had the Hidden Treasures -- cookie, ice cream, and gummy worms. While we were waiting on our desserts, Connor had a grand time arranging his Little Green Men on the table (yes, we are a class act at fancy restaurants ;)).

I just love those Little Green Men enjoying the elegant Hollywood Brown Derby! :yay:

I think that garter snake was the one I tried to capture in our bathroom at Saratoga!

Just getting caught up , we were out of town for a week visiting our family :) Looks like I missed 3 updates but you made it easy to catch up with the links on your first page , Thanks :)

Great try at the Sorcerer's hat picture , I need to try this shot on our next trip also soo cute ! Cute pic from the Muppet's queue , this one of our kids fav attractions :) The AT-AT pictures are too funny , you guys are such the rule breakers ! :lmao: The pictures w/ Bo and Chelsea are too cute , we will have to look for him also on our next trip !

Ceramics Activity looks like so much fun and not a bad price for WDW also ! Chelsea's box turned out so pretty , she should be really proud of her work :thumbsup2 Beautiful AKL pictures !

Sorry DH didn't want to do dinner at The Brown Derby or alot of things you wanted to do :( What a party popper ! LOL Great pictures of the Brown Derby and the meal . The food looks delicious !Love the pictures of Sunset Blvd. and it is soo cute how Connor is putting his little Green Men in all his pictures now :) LOL

Can't wait to hear about your next adventure ! popcorn::popcorn::

Hmmmm dinner at the Brown Derby sounds yummyyyy!! I wish it didn't take up 2 DP credits! Oh well, one day when we get deluxe dining we'll definitely be going there. I'm glad you made the best of it even though Charles didn't come too.

OMG, snakes?!?!?! Ahh I will freak out...not a good sign LOL :rotfl:

Yes, I love that he's thinking about stuff like that. I'm just a little worried that he will forever want to spell his name ER, when we specifically chose the OR because that's how we like it! :rotfl:

Getting caught up with all my subscriptions! What a cute ceramic box Chelsea made!! That is cute that she is keeping her pressed pennies in there. So sorry Charles did not go to HBD with you. My DH says the best thing about going to Disney is eating at all the different places. I am starting to plan our 25th anniversary trip & he asked me the other night "So when can we make dining reservations"?? :rotfl2: The trip isn't until May!!! Trying to decide if we want regular dining or deluxe.

And what blunder did you make??:rolleyes1

The Brown Derby looks wonderful!...I think your food selections sound delish...and after seeing that Pink Grapefruit cake-I must try...we don't have ADRs for it on this trip but it will be a must on our next trip...

I also read on a thread in the restaurant thread that if you go into the bakery next door-Starring Rolls (?) you can ask them to go over and get a slice to take away-I've already been contemplating the possibilities...:rolleyes1

Personally, I think the little green men look like charming dinner companions...:thumbsup2

I think your attitude about not letting Charles' decision to not come to dinner not ruin it for you or the kids-was very positive and mature and I applaud you for it...

Your photos again are lovely-Studios is such a detailed, interesting park to really look at-you really do get a sense of that "Hollywood that never was but is in the minds of so many" -ok not "the quote" but gets the idea across...it is such a romantic idea of Hollywood in the 30s:cloud9:

Another Hitchcock lover-& I forgot about Rebecca-another netflix request (love the Birds, Vertigo and North by Northwest...)

A snake huh? :eek:Too bad they don't make spray for those like they do bug spray cause I'd be going out tomorrow to get some...:confused3

I really, really need to eat at the Hollywood brown derby!!!! That grapefruit cake look soooooooooo good!

Man that Buddy of mine is getting dragged over the coals for the HBD dinner isn't he??? You know I have been reading where a lot of folks just love it there......but Cobb Salad and "Grapefruit" Cake doesn't really sound that good to me either........now that is NOT to say that I wouldn't have tagged along with my beautiful Bride and my two daughters (assuming I wasn't as cheap as I am and was willing to dine in those fine eateries). :rotfl2: Maybe he just knew that it was going to be one of those meals where he was going to be like.....yuck.......is this what all the fuss is about it?? Which, would have likely made the meal even worse for you??? OK, I ADMIT IT.....I am grasping at straws here!!!! I like my new buddy, but goodness, he really does need to give me a little something to work with!!! :confused3:rolleyes1:eek::headache::confused: I will also send out my congrats to you on the way in which you handled it........forge ahead and leave that lasting shot that will help him learn that sometimes, "we" just have to go with the flow too, even when we really, really don't want too!!! :worship: It was nice of you to allow Chelsea to answer the phone when he called, I know she appreciated it, since it meant she could get her THRILL on!! Especially, since somebody else is "scared" of them there rides!!

I am so glad that Connor got to get his green men, they looked like they were as happy with the dinning choice as you were!! :thumbsup2 I suspect that little green men spread across the table, isn't anywhere near the top of the list of shocking things seen at Disney's finest eateries full of children who are being entertained by their parents in hopes that they won't disturb the entire place!!

Wow, who would have thunk that they have "snakes" at AKL??? I hate snakes, I really do!! However I am willing to ride ANYTHING Disney has to offer....so I am NOT as Chicken as YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! At least at that point, Charles was there to protect you........geez, how I wish he had!!!! Anything to work with I tell you, anything at all????

I am glad you enjoyed your meal. It was great that you got some, one on one time with Connor and that the two of you just did your own thing.....and three green men on the car is better than two.........I GUESS!!!!

Looking forward to the BLUNDER.........for Charles' sake, can you post it soon??????? PLEASE????????

Oh my goodness, Charles was being a bit of a pill.....

That is one word to describe him. LOL!

I'm with you 100 % on that Cobb Salad, yum, it was my winner of the trip as well. The grapefruit cake was pretty darn good too!
Have you ever tried making the Cobb Salad? I've looked up the recipe but have been a chicken to try it. One of these days though...

I haven't tried making it yet, but after reading your comment and watching the kids scarf down regular salad at dinner tonight, I thought -- what a great summer dinner that would be -- I might try it next week. I did snag a copy of the recipe on the way out of the restaurant -- I also snagged the grapefruit cake one, but I don't think I am that brave yet.

I love Connor's little green men, too cute! The pose by the car is priceless! He will be so proud of it in a few years.

Those LGM went everywhere with us for a couple of days. Connor always seemed to have one in his pocket.

I'm glad Charles met up with you all and he and Chelsea got their thrills completed.

He knew better than to break Chelsea's heart like that.

So tell me about how long was that snake?

I am not sure because it was wriggling so much , but it was skinny.

I can't believe he missed Brown Derby.

To that I say....

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT! :snooty:

That's one way to put it! ;)

He didn't know what he was missing!

Charles did seem to understand afterwards that he had really missed out on a great meal.

I'm so glad that you were able to make lemonade out of lemons and enjoy your meal at Brown Derby. I'm very happy that you loved it, isn't it the best? I agree with requesting a booth. Jen and I just happened to get one but I would GLADLY wait longer to get one in the future, it makes a big difference.

I just can't wait to eat there again! Loved every minute of it!

Love the little green men. :thumbsup2

Connor loves his LGM -- he is still playing with them -- they come in handy when the soldiers need somebody to liberate! LOL!

Exactly what I will have whenever I eat at Brown Derby - Cobb Salad, Grapefruit Cake, and a few bites of someone else's steak! :)
And if I can get away with it, I'll have a bite of their creme brulee, too! ;)

The creme brulee was tasty, too. I did snag a bite of it! ;)

It is hard to believe someone would pass up Brown Derby, isn't it? Oh well, to each his own. I guess the pretzel and Coke saved you a few bucks, didn't it?

That pretzel and coke was a lot cheaper! LOL!

I love the little green aliens! Has he seen the big remote control alien they sell at Once Upon a Toy?

NO way! I have not seen it either -- it sounds pretty neat! But expensive.

At one point during this trip, I was sitting in our Wilderness Lodge room with the sliding glass doors opened out to the patio. I thought about the 'Snakes in Resort Rooms' thread :scared1: and decided I had better pull it shut. We weren't far away from a thicket that was probably home to a snake or ten, so I only left it open after that when there were a bunch of us sitting around outside.

Good thinking. The snake we saw at AKL was the only snake we saw, but I swear it practically leaped out of the bushes and onto the walkway in our path -- that's what it seemed like to me, at any rate. :rotfl:

Hi Jackie! I can't believe you started school last week. What happened to Summer? I was MIA at church Day Camp, but i'm all caught up.

That's what I was saying all last week. I don't think I have fully adjusted back to school time and routines yet. It usually takes me a couple of weeks.

I love Chelsea's little box - AKL has such fun activities for kids!

They really do -- that was one of my favorite things about staying there!

I also loved all the little green men - looks like they enjoyed your dinner:goodvibes

Those LGM were thankful to be out of their container and breathing fresh air! LOL!

I'm glad you liked HBD - it is our all time fav so far, too! Curious that Charles didn't feel like eating, then had low blood sugar - maybe it was the heat?

Maybe -- there is no telling with Charles sometimes.

OMG I can't believe he didn't want to go to THE brown derby. You handled it well :goodvibes I see a lot of people favor the grapefruit cake - Does it taste like grapefruits? Grapefruit in a cake just doesn't sound appealing to me?

How neat to run into a student!

I didn't know whether I would like the Grapefruit cake or not, but I loved it. It was citrusy -- like lemon cake only slightly different.

It was so funny to actually see someone we knew from back home!

Well I give to to Charles... what man misses meals? No way my husband would miss a meal, especially a sit down one, that is what he likes!

That's what Charles likes best about Disney, too, so I was very surprised. Oh well. :confused3

The box Chelsea made is really cute. My DD would love to do that. And where did ya'll get the little Toy Story aliens? My youngest would flip for those! They're so cute. (And we'd be lining them up on the table too...) By the way the dessert over there looks YUMMY!

We found them at the little gift shop outside Toy Story Mania. They also had buckets of army men -- Connor didn't know which he wanted at first, but I pointed out that he could always find army men at home (and he already had some). It was $13.00 for a whole container of them, and it was his favorite purchase of the trip.

Dessert was very yummy! There were other choices on the menu that I would like to try some other time.

Yummm, Cobb salad!!! It tastes just as good at home!!!:goodvibes You just have to add all the high calorie stuff to it, bacon, eggs etc.

I think I want to try it -- I loved it so much and I think the kids would like it with all the eggs, bacon, and meat in it.

So cute that Connor wanted his little green alien men in his picture with the car, He is such a cutie pie!!

Thank you! Connor loved his LGM -- he has played with them so much!

I love meandering through shops and looking at displays at the parks. There is SO much to see and surprises around every corner.

Looking forward to more.

Me too! Some of the best details are in the decorations in the shops.

Why is it I never quite make it to reply on the actual day you update...I mean really...what is my deal!!!!

 I posted late last night, Jen -- no worries!

First of all congrats on surviving your first week of school!!! I'm wishing you a very speedy year!!!!!

Thank you! With all those furlough days, we are going to have a lot of breaks!

You must try the grapefruit cake, Jen -- it tasted as amazing as it looked.

Love Connor's green men I want some now...to think the crazy things I could do with those in my classroom LOL!! They could help demonstrate!!!!!

:lmao: What a great idea! Yes, you need some LGMs to demonstrate lab safety and such!

OOH...I hate Snakes...oh yes I do!!!

You should have seen how high I leaped -- I was so freaked out by it!

Another great review for Brown Derby! :thumbsup2

It was just a lovely meal from start to finish.

I see no problem in letting Connor play with his little army guys at the dinner table. ;)

I figured it was keeping him quiet and happy -- a winning situation in my eyes! :goodvibes

:sad2:

A very bright observation! So, I have to know, what did you say to him? My Connor has never tried that one before, but recently Chelsea has been trying to shorten her name -- I notice she writes Chels on most of her papers. :sad2:

Great Tr so far. How lucky you got to stay at AKL thats one of the top 3 resorts I dream about staying. First 2 are WL And GF.
