Distances at the Contemporary??

My step-father is renting an ECV for the trip but does not use one at home. He does fatigue easily when walking long distances.

We have reservations at Chef Mickey's on July 31 in the evening. We are staying in a cabin at FW. We have a car and a golf cart at FW.

I was wondering about a couple of things. Mostly I am trying to determine if we can easily do this meal without the ECV or if we will need it. He already said he only plans on using it for the parks but I don't think he realizes how far some of these resort hikes can be.

I am willing to do whatever to make it work, but honestly if he can comfortable walk the distance, he will prefer that.

How far of a walk is it from the boat launch to Chef Mickey's?

How far is it from the closest place I can drop our party off to Chef Mickey's?

He does have a accessible placard if that helps. I tend to think that dropping them off at the door may be best.

I would love you opinions.

Driving will be your best bet, the walk from the dock at CR to the main building can be a hike(the boat from FW to CR will not accommodate the ECV). With the handicap placard you will be able to valet for free(don't forget the tip though). Once inside the building CM is on the 4th floor, elevators and escalators are available, as well as places to sit and rest along the way.

I definitely agree with driving. If he has a disabled placard valet parking is free (but please tip the valets). The elevators are less than 50 feet from the entrance to the Contemporary, and the entrance to CM is less than 100 feet from the elevator (and there are benches).

It is quite a hike, and mostly uphill, from the dock to the building.

My philosophy is "When it doubt, take the wheelchair." In your case, take the scooter. And I also second the idea of driving!

Remember, he can always park the ECV outside of a restaurant, but use it to tour the hotel (it is gorgeous with lots of shopping) and even hop on the monorail and go the whole loop! (we do this every trip, even the resort loop, and you could miss that if you drive)

If you don't have the ECV and he becomes tired or hurting, then you are stuck. I used to leave my wheelchair behind whenever I could, but once I got stuck on the far side of Epcot from the car! That was terrible! I had to wait an hour for my dad to go get it! Now I bring it everywhere!

:goodvibesI think that we will try the valet parking. I really appreciate the help!
