Dissapointing First Impression of DVC

I cant believe how nasty some DVC members are on these boards ..

Get over yourselves. ... its just a timeshare.

i was sort of thinking the same thing. If you can handle some of the responses you got on these boards, the MS CM'S should be a breeze for you. I hope that you buy into DVC and are very happy with it! :goodvibes

I agree that sometimes, for reasons I really don't understand, people are incredibly rude here, and it seems to always happen when certain questions or observations are posted.

As someone renting points, how in the world are they supposed to know that Monday is a heavy call day and why? I'll wager there are still some owners that don't know MS is closed on the weekends causing Mondays to be very busy.

As someone renting points, how are they supposed to know that they shouldn't be calling MS to confirm a reservation? Particularly if they have the blessing or are encouraged to do so by the owner and have been given the number. Perhaps owners should be better educated before renting their points.

As someone renting points, how are they supposed to know what requests are guaranteed and which aren't?

Perhaps owners who are irritated by renting and rental questions, should put the blame where it lays, which is squarely at the feet of Disney which expressly permits it and take it up with them, instead of the people renting.

At least people coming here are trying to do the right thing, do some research, and ask questions, unlike people that don't even know this board exists yet still somehow probably get through their vacation just fine and without being attacked.

Every time we call MS, we have to give our member number and last four of the SSN. Why aren't these questions being asked of non-members and the call being terminated with "Please ask the member to call for you"?

Exactly. Maybe DVC needs to put a prompt in asking for the membership number before you can continue on the line for reservations. It sounds a little bit too easy to get reservation information if you have a name and a resort.

We own Marriott Vacation Club, too, and they won't give out information on the account or reservations without that membership number.

I can only describe my experience. I rented points one time for the express purpose of trying DVC before purchasing. I called to confirm our reservation and when MS asked for our member number, I simply explained we were renting points, so didn't have one. MS very politely asked for a confirmation number, which I provided and then asked for my name to confirm it. The call was handled professionally and courteously and lasted all of 30 seconds. I was never told or treated in a such way that would have had me believe it was wrong for me to call.

Again, if this bothers some people, it is a DVC training issue and should be taken up with DVC and not the people renting who can't possibly know what the official DVC rules are, let alone things that aren't rules, but might be considered "bad form" by some.

Oh ok...didn't know you could actually wait one out at check-in of a DVC vacation...as you can see I'm learning here. If you've always gotten your non-smoking request then that appeases me.

Sorry about the $20M confusion...I'm accustomed to my place of work lingo..when we say $20M is $20,000 and $20MM is 20 million.

PS I still don't know what is the other nameless DVC resort...OKW?

HOW DARE YOU SIR!!!

I was about to chime in and suggest you get cut some slack, when you impune the good name of OKW and imply it is Some Slighted, nameless Disney Resort?

Everyone knows OKW is the Original Keen Walt Disney Timeshare!!!

Seriously, Monday was like one of the worst days to call (which you had no way of knowing), and on top of being a Monday to begin with, it was 7 Months Before President's Day which is insanely busy (which you also had no reason to know). And yes from your description your CM needed some more Pixie Dust in their morning coffee.

Some of the serious and tongue-in-cheek advice here is valid. Most of us have had vacations with one or more episodes of Non-Disney like events. Sadly, some people have everything that can go wrong, all go wrong during one vacation, and that, even at Disney is no fun, but fortunately, very, very rare.

Welcome to the forums

Diznyfanatic: Thanks for the support! As you did, I'm renting in hopes of determining if DVC will work for me...I guess that is why Disney allows it as well...because they know the will eventually get some buyers that were originally renters...hopefully in a couple of years I'll be the one giving advice to newbies...and you can bet I will do so in a freindly manner with open mind. Thanks again, JJ

On such an insanely busy morning, the MS CMs probably don't even get to sip that morning coffee before the next call comes in! :surfweb:

To the OP: Welcome to the DVC forums!

You're very welcome JJ. I hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy your DVC experience. I only wish we had done it sooner.

Just for future reference, other "hot" topics here that may or may not require a flame proof suit include pool hopping, refillable mugs and stretching the maximum room capacity in DVC resorts, but your mileage may vary. ;)

Did I post that out loud? :rotfl2:

There's a very good and obvious reason why you weren't told it was wrong for you to call.

Think of it this way - once you get settled in to your lounge chair at Stormalong Bay, or grab a burger and a sundae at Beaches & Cream, or enjoy your short, leisurely stroll into Epcot, (I could go on!), you won't even be thinking about that phone call!

Seriously, I don't think I have ever encountered a rude CM at member services, though some are clearly more personable than others. Sorry the first one you spoke with was less than magical. Have a great trip and I hope the Beach Club wows your socks off!

I could not have said it better myself! ;)

Me too. I rented before becoming a member and in about a minute I made the call to MS, explained my situation to the CM, gave the confirmation # to the CM, everything was confirmed and I was done.

When I made a reservation for someone else I told the CM that they did not yet have the filght info for DME and that I would call back. I was told - just have them call for that or if they want to add the dining plan. I replied " I thought only DVC members were supposed to call". She answered " We will not give out any information about your membership but they can call with the confirmation number to do these things once they have their information and save you the trouble." Don't know if she was right or wrong about this but it is what I have gone by.
On the couple of occasions I have rented points out to pay for other things I have tried to get all the requests etc. to give the CM at the time of making the reservation but you don't always have the flight info at that time so have to call back. I am waiting for SW for Christmas so will be calling back for my own trip then- I just won't call on Monday or during a week where people are trying to book a busy time. I would also warn anyone I made a reservation for about when to call - it's too bad the person the OP rented from didn't offer the same info to him. Been a member since 1997 and have never had a bad experience calling MS even when calling on the Mondays at opening for the 11 mo window Christmas week.

For me, I sense a problem with the OP's attitude. He/she hasn't even stayed there yet, and is already declaring a "problem."

Folks like these are rarely satistfied with the timeshare experience, I think. If you're already looking for things to be dissatisfied with, you are bound to have a bad time.

The OP withstood the many comments (some good, some not so good) of our (sometimes not so friendly) DVC community and maintained a great attitude. Can't we cut him some slack? :grouphug:

Sorry if you misunderstood me, my intentions were not to declare a problem about my STAY before getting there, but merely to share my experience about the reservation call with the CM. I am confident and sure that the stay at the BCV will be wonderful...I've stayed off-site plenty of times and at non DVC timeshares...and I have been pleased...but I have never dealt with a CM raising his voice..so this was new to me.

Seriously! Why can't this be a friendly place? I understand it is the internet and people feel more free to be short and/or rude, but why can't we just all be helpful? And the old saying goes, if you don't have anything nice to say.....right? :confused3

Disneylover JJ - I am not even sure when your trip is after all these senseless posts, but I hope you have a magical time and give DVC a chance. I like to think of it as pre-paying for wonderful and larger on site accomodations. To some people, DVc is not the most luxurious timeshare one can buy, but for us we are not looking for luxury. We are looking for Disney magic. Enjoy planning!

Boy, I agree. I've only read a few of the responses but poor guy.

I agree with him that with most reservations having the # cuts down on time for both parties.

I think he'll find that most DVC CMs at MS are friendly and helpful....far friendlier than this board can be at times.

And I find the WDW magic alive in DVC as much so as at any of the deluxe resorts we've stayed at. Service and friendliness are the norm.

Hope your experiences on the phone and in this thread don't turn you off to DVC. :grouphug:

BVC23 / Zalansky: Thanks for the breath of fresh air and best wishes...I have simply come to accept the fact that there are people here who use the DIS boards to release their stress in life....honestly there is no other reason for the personal attacks...alll said...I can't wait until SAB and BCV in November...It'll all be worth it.
