DISr with Black Lab Service Dog?

I have depression, SID, ADD, food related emotional issues, and an abusive mother. Not to mention celiac, arthritis, a bad disc and other physical problems. I want a dog like my Katie and your Shadow to talk to and get unconditional love. I miss that unconditional love and friendship. It does not have to be a service dog at all. Katie was a dumb but very obedient silly puppy that never grew up and was a smallish shepherd mix. I WANT A DOG , any dog though I want a short hair terrier or shepherd sized dog.

There's no detour to say that you want a dog. Dogs have been shown to make quite a difference in the emotional lives of people and certainly don't need to be SD's to do that. I think Mark was asking if you wanted or thought you needed/qualified for a SD as that can lead to other discussions, not to say that you had detoured the thread. Also, while emotional support dogs are not considered SD's and do not thus have public access privileges to places where pets are not allowed, they do have "rights" to be in housing with people whom they support that have emotional needs that can be helped by a furry companion. ---Kathy

I trained Mandy and Katie so I dont know about a service dog for my SID and emotional issues. I do know taht Katie was my baby and did many things a service/therapy dog would do. Mandy never played and was abandoned like Katie. She could do many tricks and once got her commands mixed up and scaled a 5 foot cinder block wall. I should have a therapy dog but think just a nice dog that I trained would be fine. A mix of the two dogs but knowing my luck I would get the worst of the two, lol.

Sorry to snap. I know my SID and other problems flared when our last dog die and really I never got over the loss of my Kate. I will not get a dog until I can afford the care, feeding and have a nice home and fenced yard. If it aint good enough for a child then it aint good enough for a dog.

I cruised on a line other than DCL, so won't e-mail you, but I'm sorry to hear you had a problem with the potty box.

On our line, my problem was that the box was too far away (on the other end of the ship and down five floors) and too small (3'x3' and a few inches high with some mulch in it). If I ever cruise again (I prefer land vacations, as you can get so much more out of them), I'll likely buy one of those thin faux-dog-grass potty boxes and bring it (and potty pads to put in the tray to soak up the "liquid") for the cabin balcony.

My dog didnt have any problem using his potty. it was a kiddie pool filled with grass. It was on my veranda.
