I have a question. Because of the new rules when flying you can not carry disposable lighters anymore. You can however carry 3 packs of matches with you (really makes sense doesn't it?)

Do you know if you can buy disposable lighters at the resorts?

Just pack your lighters in in your checked luggage...

or better yet, use your vacation as a time to stop smoking and spend the extra money at WDW! :rolleyes1

You can't pack Bic lighters in checked luggage.
*All lighters are prohibited as carry-on items. Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked
baggage, but lighters with fuel are prohibited. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is
prohibited, please refrain from bringing it to the airport.

Not sure if the resorts sell lighters, but there are a couple of gas stations that you could pick one up at on the way to WDW. I would also guess that they would be available at the airport shops. (at least they used to)

Thank you for the info.

Also the current rule (according to my cousin who works for TSA). No lighters of any kind as of April 2005 are allowed in checked luggage or on your person

Strike-anywhere matches are prohibited on flights. However, per the TSA website permitted/prohibited item list:

All lighters are prohibited as carry-on items. Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage, but lighters with fuel are prohibited. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited, please refrain from bringing it to the airport.

Up to 4 books of safety (non-strike anywhere) matches are permitted as carry-on items, but all matches are prohibited in checked baggage.

I have found the TSA website to be a great resource when in doubt and check it before all flights (just in case!). The list was revised on 5/16/05.

there was a story on the local news last week that said they have a basket at security for you to leave your lighter and then people who are arriving can pick one up on their way out of the airport. not sure how large the "supply" is though or if other airports are doing the same thing. hopefully it doesn't result in another line to wait in :)

That sounds reasonable to me!! Bring a cheap lighter to the airport, voluntarily drop it at security, pick one up as you leave security at your destination!!

Take a penny, leave a penny!!
