Disposable Diapers

Ds was first and we started with pampers but then got cheap and went to Luvs.

DD was the second and (God I hope!!!) last we started off with Luvs and went even cheaper with Target brand.

My two tips are: Huggies never worked for us. Target diapers have large dark blue and green circle dot decoration all.over them so if baby is wearing a light colored outfit the design may show throw if it matters.

Looks like the pack I got from Target have monkeys on them.

Thank you all for the pointers and for the silly nonsense:rotfl: So what do you think about diaper Genies??? Is that really needed?

Not to get graphic, but I've heard that some may work better vis a vis girls vs boys. The infant versions seem to be gender neutral, but training pants and overnight pants seem to be gender specific even though they functionally identical.

When I was younger, Luvs was marketed as a premium brand - even over Pampers. At a college job my manager had a kid and said she wasn't giving up Luvs for cloth diapers. I guess now it's a "value" brand.

We used Pampers and Huggies for our son. That was years ago.

We recently had a young woman and her child move in with us. We again tried Luvs and generic diapers. But went back to Pampers and Huggies. Fewer leaks.

We used a diaper Genie with our son and we still have it. We continued to use it for the new baby. But I wouldn't buy a new one.

I hate when they update to cute things when I'm done babying!

I say no to diaper genies, wipe warmers and other silly things I can't think of at the moment.

If the diaper is truly that stinky put it in a grocery bag and take it straight out. Otherwise just chunk it.

Another tip, first time parents may be oppositional so proceed with caution but baby gear can be bought second hand at consignment shops, yard sales and fb for sale groups for literally dimes on the dollar!

It'd be great to stock up on gear cheaply for use at your house. Swing, bouncy seat, pack n play, etc I would only advice to make sure a car seat is bought new for every vehicle. Did you know they expire nowadays?!

Lots of consignment shops around here usually have brand new with tags baby clothes for at least half off retail price. Everyone gets so much new stuff from everyone and then never get to use it all.

I tried to use my diaper genie once. It was a pain in the butt. Just put the diaper in a plastic bag and toss it in the garbage.

I found it worked pretty well. The main issue for me was the cost of the replacement bag material.

Not all are the same length. Some are five years. I saw one with a manufacturing date and a note that it expires in ten years.

I'm sure that's probably the case my son seemed to have more blowouts than my daughter.

My kids are 12 and 7 so I'm sure there's a lot of change in the baby world in those quick years I have been out of it.

I liked mine too.

My options were in the kitchen garbage or walking it outside, oftentimes in the snow. So the genie worked for me.

Are you kidding??? Car seats expire! LOL, since the day after my daughter found out she was expecting she has been dragging me out to baby sales everywhere. We have picked up a lot of nice, gently used things...a bouncer seat, an umbrella stroller, diaper warmer (really don't get that at all) books. Lots of cute stuff. I did insist she get a brand new car seat. Of all the baby items, to me this is the most critical to make sure it is in proper working order. We got a real cute one that has a contraption that adapts to a matching stroller. The two thing she is having a hard time deciding on are bottles and a baby monitor

We used a wipe warmer with our son, but we kept our house pretty cool. But we don't use it for the baby here now. Our house isn't as cool, either.

We use/used Playtex nurser bottles for both. I loved them with our son. And when the young lady moved in, she didn't like the bottles that she was using. Dr. Brown's. We tried the Playtex nursers and she liked them. So we replaced the ones she didn't like.

We are on one floor, so a baby monitor wasn't something we used.

I never really though much of diapers until I started a family at a late age. Before then all I remember was my younger cousin wearing Pampers in the late 70s that were bulky and probably didn't use the polymer gels that are in modern diapers.

Like I said it's been a long time cause dd was exclusively breastfeed so I'd be referencing ds who is 12 but I loved the vent aire bottles by playtex. They were marketed to cause less gas but I loved them cause when we didn't have use a dishwasher they were super easy to clean even when I couldn't get to washing them right away. The bottom unscrews and has a vented disc in there but I liked it cause i could clean all the way to the bottom easily.

We started off with a Chicco Keyfit 30. My wife didn't like the pattern I got, and when I called their customer service they would sell the cover I wanted for $40. My original cover started bleeding it's color after the first wash, and that was replaced for free. They had a problem with the dyes. We also got a matching Chicco stroller for $75 at Toys R Us. It looked like a return with slightly worn tires, but nobody could tell after a week. I loved how the seat locked into the stroller perfectly. We tried a universal infant seat carrier, but it worked poorly and we returned it.

My wife insisted on Dr Brown's narrow until our kid was older and we were using Born Free wide mouth. Tried Vent Aire once. It was the angled bottle.

For DD2 we used The Diaper Champ. It was kind like Diaper Geni but you could use your own bag. It was OK but I really didn't need it

For bottles, I really liked Dr Browns for DD2. I used Avent for DD1 which worked initially but then they leaked a lot.
