I will be going to Disney World in Nov. for a week and I need to know if there is transportation from DW to Universal and what the drop off hours are and how much money it will be? I have heard that there is a Mears bus that does this.
Thanks
JT

I came on here just now looking for this same information! Is this the cheapest way or what are the other options for getting there?

Where does this Mears shuttle have its stops in Disneyworld? I didnt find anything about it on the Mears website.

From what I understand, you call Mears the day before you want to head to US/IoA. Tell them about what time you want to leave, they will give you a pickup time. You pay when you get on the bus, I believe. Then, you can either prearrange a pickup time to return to WDW or you can call Mears 2-3 hrs before you're ready to leave and they will tell you what time they will be there.
I just booked a special, that is offered by DU, where I paid $118 pp for Mears shuttle service and 'two parks/one day' at US/IoA. It's all prepaid which is nice. If you buy passes directly from US, you pay that just for your park pass. Booking as I did got me my ride free.
And they pick you up right at your resort.

goofy4tink, could you explain what DU is and how you booked this promo? That's actually a pretty good deal and I was wondering about transportation from DW to US as well. I'm also looking to get 1 day Park to Park pass as well.
Thanks for the info.

As the PP's stated, you do have to reserve your transportation.

Also, unless you prepurchase your vouchers through the ticket deal OR buy them before leaving MCO, then you must pay the driver CASH.

If you prepurchase your voucher, you must still reserve the night before.

The easiest way to do this is dial 0 from your room phone and ask to be transferred to Mears, then give them your details.

It depends on the number of people in your group. You could also check on car rental prices for the day (don't forget to add in parking at US) or taxis.

goofy4tink, thanks. I actually found it right before you posted it. It is a really good deal with free transportation.
Do you have any idea if Express Plus can only be purchased through Universal Orlando web-site or if there're other ways to get it? UO charges $14 for the shipping.

No idea. You could head over to the US/IoA boards here on the DIS..they may have an answer for you.

We were 7 in our group. We went by taxis (going to US, we reserved it the night before through our resort conceirge counter). Coming back, there were taxis waiting. Both times we were in vans and the total cost return with tips was about $80.00. So, for us it was cheaper and more efficient to use a taxi.

There are many options - you just need to figure out the one that is best suited for your circumstance.

Yes, I think if you have more than 4 poeple in your group, taking the taxi is more convenient and cost effective. However, if you get that deal where Mears transportation is free and you just pay the price of the park admission, well, how can you beat that?

We are a group of 4 (24yrs all of us) and will be staying at POP Century from sept. 24 to oct. 03. We have been discussing about this issue lately. Renting a car is not an option for us, since they will charge us an extra $25 fee for being under 25. So we have been trying to decide between shuttle or taxi, I called Mears like a week ago and they told me that Shuttles cost $18 per person, the shuttles are shared and they will be picking up others people at another resort, the same for the drop off. Mears taxi cost around $64 round trip, and they will take you directly from your hotel to Universal or IOA, so we think this will be a better deal for us. We will visit Universal on sept 28 and IOA on sept. 30. What do you think? is taxi a really good option? This is our first time visit, so any suggestion will be great.

geol, those are exact same dates we're going to be staying at POP as well.
Is this your first time at Disney? Maybe we should stick together, as it is out first time as well:) We're 25 and 32 (who acts like 24:)).
In regards to taxi vs shuttle issue, I think shuttle is a better option if you book the deal where you get round transportation for free, like the one mentioned at the beginning of this thread.
However, if all 4 of you chipping in for the cab, it would be cheaper than buying shuttle pass out-of-pocket, and more convenient.

The problem with booking that deal is that it starts getting expensive if you are planning on more than one day. BUt, it's up to you.
I am thinking seriously about taking the provided shuttle over in the morning, but a cab back at night. The shuttle bus can take quite a long time later at night....many more stops to make than the trip there.
I would think that if you are planning on booking the shuttle, at $18 pp, for four, it may be worth your while to use a car service or cab. But that is up to everyone to decide.
