PSA: Check your receipt carefully. Disneystore.com charged me sales tax on clothing, but my state does not collect sales tax on clothing under a certain dollar amount. I emailed customer service and received a refund on my credit card without difficulty. Pays to keep an eye out.

Wow. My state is having tax free weekend this weekend but otherwise we pay tax on everything but food in Ohio

Some states require tax to be charged in the state sold and not where it is going. In California we tax everybody for everything:mad:

This is not correct you can only collect sales tax if the item is shipped to a state where the business has a location, stores inventory, has an employee etc. Out of state buyers are required to pay the sales tax rate in the state they reside (where the item is shipped to) when they file their state income tax and in the case of a business when they file sales and use tax. this is strictly for items that are shipped not a physical purchase in a store where you leave with the item. On a personal side I have had many things shipped form CA from Amazon marketplace and other retailers and never paid CA sales tax. Items shipped and sold by Amazon will charge me my state tax no matter where it ships from.

Here in NJ, no tax on clothing. But there are weird exceptions, like maybe Halloween costumes. I remember it used to be, ball cap, no tax, ball cap with team logo, taxable. That was long ago, when I worked at store and we had to modify the items manually at the register (no scanners then!).

Merchants are required to collect sales tax for the specific state for items purchased in or delivered to such states where they have stores, warehouses, or other facilities.

At some point in the future merchants may be required to collect sales tax for items delivered to any state or city that has a sales tax. But given the thousands of permutations of sales tax rates and item exemtions, I would expect that a small finite number of regional generic tax rates may be implemented for mail orders as opposed to exact sales taxes for the same item at the same price at a local store.

Disney is in California all over the state. Main offices in Burbank/ Pasadena. California expects you as a consumer to pay the taxes whether Company does or not. Will they go after the little guy... probably not. When I do mu taxes they want to know :(
