Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

So after watching the vlog from Dis Unplugged (3 times) on their visit to Flying Fish on the opening night, we have cancelled our wedding anniversary meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse and booked Flying Fish.

Reading the menu did not attract my attention at all, but actually seeing the food was well wowzer!!!!!

I hope they compensated you for your troubles. That's ridiculous.

What type of compensation do you think is appropriate?
I think what happened is awful and I would have been so disappointed, but all your reservation guarantees - if you read the fine print - is some room some where on property. There have been reports in the past of folks paying for a higher class room and not getting it. It happens and I don't think you are entitled to anything more than a room.

So sorry- once again I am about a week behind on going through the thread. Lots going on here!!! I have been hunting and pecking with answers, but it really messes with my OCDee when I don't have a chance to go through methodically!

I have updated the BOG list through page 600. Once I have caught up on the last 10 pages, I'll update the rest.

One more Beach club question...my apologies for so many...trying to plan where we might do our QS meals. Is this an option for dinner? On Disney's website I see only menu's for "lunch" and "pool bar". I have heard on this thread they also serve a breakfast...anyone know how late they stay open for a dinnerish meal? When I think of lunch, I think of about noon-3pm.

As mentioned, you can get a QS dinner (limited options) from both the Marketplace and Hurricane Hanna's. Check out Page 1, Post 7 for pictures of the menu board and/or links to menu listings.

If you have park hoppers, there are a World of QS choices in EPCOT, just a quick walk from the resort. You can eat there or sometimes I will go on a food run, bringing back takeout from one or more places. Although not set up for takeout, most places can wrap up the food for you. You may need to bring a long a bag to carry if you have multiple meals. I skip the drinks, or get bottled water since it is difficult to carry multiple fountain drinks.

Our favorites are Sunshine Seasons in Future World or takeout sushi from Japan, a combo plate from the Tangierine Café in Morocco or sandwiches/quiche in France. We actually have not gotten the Fish and Chips in the UK, but they get great reviews.

:goodvibes

We will be at the Beach Club February 12 through February 18. Our first time at a Deluxe Resort. We are very excited to try something new!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the resort.

Any updates on the YC/BC bus stops?

Good question! As far as I know, there has been no work at the BC stop and I am not aware any is planned.

Can someone at the YC now, or soon, let us know if that stop is open yet or if the stop is still at the Convention Center. TIA!

::yes::

I was playing around on there this afternoon & that notice was not there. So that is really just added. Hopefully it won't impact your vacation, Dee!

Again, thanks so much for the heads-up on this. I tried to get more info by emailing IPO about my October stay, but they didn't have any details for me.

"Hi-

My husband and I are getting really excited about our first trip to the Yacht Club in just a couple of months!

A friend sent me this notice that she saw on the Disney reservation page: (insert notice)

I am not really concerned about the impact on our trip because I know Disney and the resort personnel will do everything they can to minimize the disruption to guests during the work. I believe the recent room renovations at the Beach Club they started with the 5th floor club level and worked down. Will the Yacht Club be done the same way?

Thank you!"

They acknowledged my question but said they didn't have any info about what level the renovation would be starting with.

:scratchin

I HATE FREESTYLE COKE MACHINES. I like plain Coke, and when you get a drink in these machines, there's always a hint of Sprite or Orange in the background. IT'S JUST GROSS!!
If only those machines dispensed...The Beverly

It's the only soda I have had in the last year and a half

Hi. I've changed my dates again! Well sort of!

I was due to check on on May 21st and was staying elsewhere the first 3 nights as BC wasn't available.

But....... All my daily checking on the website has paid off and the BC is now available for my full duration. Yey.

Check-in is now May 18th thru to June 1st. 2 whole weeks of heaven!!

Cannot wait to be there and for this year to be over. We so need this vacation!

X

I'll adjust your listing.

:cool1:

I need help regarding how to make Mousekeeping requests prior to arrival (if possible). We're DVC owners at BCV and I seem to recall during our first trip last year that you could make requests for items like extra hangers and foam pillows (rather than feathers) via a form or online.

Does this sound familiar to anyone or did I imagine this? I have no doubt that I can request these items via a quick phone call once we check-in (if items are still needed) but was wondering if there was a way to take care of this ahead of time.

Thanks for the help!

BCV/DVC is not my strong suit.

Anyone have any insight?

:thumbsup2

Dee,

We are returning to Beach Club for the 2017 Princess Half Marathon weekend, Feb 23-27.

Booked it today and crossing fingers that an AP discount might come out later.

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the list.

:woohoo:

Me too! Just booked a magical deal. Ill be there Feb 23-26 at this point. Was going to be a girls weekend but once I told my husband I was booking BC he started talking about maybe coming along with the kids... so we will see! I haven't been on this thread in a while, its good to "see" everyone :)

:welcome: back!

I'm letting my DH come on my "Girls Trip" in October. :rotfl: @JanetMom @HockeyMomR @Ninja Mom

Offers to switch resorts due to an oversell issue/renovation work:

Currently booked on a great deal at the BC in a standard room for 3-10 December.

Just got an email from our travel agent and we have been offered a chance to switch our stay to the Grand Floridian, standard view in an outer building.

While we love the Grand, we want the convenience of walking to Epcot for this trip. I will be turning the offer down.

I think this reflects on the announcement of the YC rehab.

I just got this email from our travel agent:

Due to an oversell situation at the Beach Club Resort, you are eligible for a free upgrade to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Savannah View, for your November 12-21 stay. Please let me know right away if you would like this upgrade or if you prefer to stay at the Beach Club Resort.

Thank you!
Do you think that's because of the Yacht Club construction? I have no desire to move to AKL since we've never stayed at BC and we are so looking forward to it...

EDIT: Oh jeez, I read it as "overall." I just noticed on rereading it says "oversell." So I guess it's not about YC construction. Nevermind!

Oh I would totally ask for this as well... in my opinion AKL is not an upgrade from BC...but if they really wanted to move me to another resort, I could be persuaded into GF or Poly :) GOod luck!

I reserved beach club cl September 2014. It wasn't until we arrived that we found out they overbooked the resort. It took them 3 hours to find us a room, they finally offered us contemporary, I turned down the offer. The only thing they could find was 2 queen beds non club level at beach club, we are a family of 5. For the first night all 3 kids slept in the same bed and the next day they found us a room with a daybed for our 3rd kid at yacht club, still not club level. ANYTHING can happen. Consider yourself lucky that you were notified.

Now I am worried! I'll be there during the same timeframe (arriving 11/17), and we are not checking into the YC until late at night after an evening flight. *If* they are sold out (and there's currently no availability for any room type at YC or BC for those dates), and anybody who checked in earlier in the day had turned down moves to another resort, might we be forced to move? My parents are arriving a few days later, also booked at YC... it would be terrible if we had to move and they weren't moved! But I guess we would figure it out however it works and no need to worry about it until it happens.

Dee - will you please take us off the BOG list for December 3rd to 7th. We received an email from our travel agent offering us a free upgrade to the Grand Floridian, and we took it. We were already paying a very low price for the BC, but to pay the same amount of money for the GF, well, we just couldn't pass it up. We've never used this travel agency before, but they do seem to be very magical. ;)

We'll still be at the BC in October. :)

@Wood Nymph I heard that due to guest requests, the week you are going in October is unavailable, so you will have to change your reservation to mid-October... ;)
(Everyone else, pay no attention to this comment...)

*******************************************************************************

So I don't really have any advice about what you should do if you are presented with an offer to switch resorts, other than if it appeals to you, do it. If you have a counter-offer that would be acceptable (eg "I would switch to the Poly") then let them know that. If your heart is set on the Yacht or Beach Club, stay put. That is what I would do.

Hopefully what Elizapeka encountered is rare. The situation in her case was complicated because not all rooms will accommodate a family of 5.

Guests will not be left homeless. If I arrived at the resort and was told I had to move to another resort- unlikely, but I am sure it has happened before- I would make sure that my family's inconvenience was recognized.

I hope that if not enough people take Disney up on the offer to switch resorts that guests are notified IN ADVANCE of arrival of the likelihood of being moved.

@Lolaura84 Are you planning on doing the online checkin with the option of text-to-room? If so, you will probably know your room number well in advance of your arrival that day, or you may get a message saying you must report to the checkin desk. If that happens and you are able to get through to the resort before arriving, maybe you could be prepared with your options.

But again, I think the number of guests who will be in this situation will be very small.

We booked a standard room for September (hubs, toddler, me). I requested a king bed #1 - any suggestions for request #2 that gives us a possibility of a non-hvac view? Right now I have full balcony.

Also, how is the pullout? I do not think Mr. Littles will abide by a pack and play anymore.

I have had great success in the past making a request of "non roof top view please".

Just had to say that I booked our flights yesterday! :woohoo: Our arrival flight is super early - we will be arriving at the airport at 8:15 am. We're hoping to get to BCV, leave any carryons we have with Bell Services, and be in a park by lunchtime. Is that timeline realistic?? I am 99% sure our room won't be ready at 9 in the morning, lol, but our checked luggage that DME has will be taken to our room once it's ready, correct? And then we retrieve our carryons from Bell Services when our room is ready and we return from the parks?

So...room booked, flights booked...need to purchase tickets...but, no turning back...we're coming to Disney! :teeth: Now to start figuring out any ADRs we may want. My ADR date is 10/2. My daughter wants to eat at Ohana, she is a huge Stitch fan, and I thought we might try to do that on either our MK day or our EP day. Would it be easiest to get a cab/uber to the Poly? I know we could take the bus to MK, then monorail to Poly, but that seems like it would take a bit of time. We thought about walking through EP to the monorail, but if we get an early reservation, we won't be able to do that.

I tried very hard to get a reservation in the middle of October. Availability was limited, discounts didn't exist and I couldn't get a room. :( And someone seems to have picked dates during the Gartner Convention - just sayin'. :rolleyes1

I think that some sort of compensation beyond a lateral move is due to the family. They booked in good faith and to arrive and have to wait three hours while the resort comes up with some sort of accommodation is ridiculous. We had this happen to us back in 1998. We had a reservation at the BC and when we arrived they said they were full and they moved us to the Yacht Club. We were put in a normal garden view room and my husband was furious. In a way it put a damper on the trip for him because he felt that we had been cheated. We should have at least gotten an upgrade or a discount, or something. People plan their Disney trips with the resort in mind, and to have it changed after arrival is very upsetting. But I've noticed that Disney has become more pro-active about the resorts and warning people ahead of time about any changes. When we had issues with our WL trip in January they handled it very well with compensation. And that made all the difference in the world to us. :)

We often land as early as 9:30am and can check in and be in the World Showcase by 11:30am. :) Our luggage gets delivered to the room and it usually there by the time we get back from the park. :) Check in for DVC units is usually later in the afternoon, so I wouldn't expect it to be ready early.

Take a cab to the Poly. It will be a lot quicker. If you decide to save money and take Disney transportation you can go to Hollywood Studios and get the Poly bus from there.

I completely forgot about online check in until just now and I am a little confused about what I should choose now that there are more options.

It gives the option of choosing pool view. Is there a chance that I could actually get a pool view even though I'm booked for a standard view room?

Also, I have two reservations on my account because my parents are joining us. What are the chances that we won't get rooms near one another unless I choose an adjoining or connecting room request?

Last year I requested high floor and large balcony and we lucked out with a room overlooking part of the pool. We loved that we were able to see the HS fireworks from our room. I'd love to luck out like that again. :goodvibes

hopefully, What was disappointing was I reserved a room to accommodate 5 people and PAID for club level service. The other problem was that it wasn't until around 6 pm that we got a room. I did online check in and arrived around 3 pm. I think I did everything right. My reservation was for a room that accommodates a party of 5 and initially I did not get that. If I am not getting the same level I paid for I should get some sort of refund, I think that's what kandb was trying to say.
kandb, they did not compensate me for my trouble but I brushed it off and it wasn't till we got home that it became unsettling. I paid for club level and while I got access to the lounge I did not get any of the perks, turn down service, papers, robes, the club level toiletries and such. I wrote Disney a letter and they felt my situation wasn't handled in the manner it should have been so they have already sprinkled us with pixie dust for our upcoming june 2017 stay.
My point of bringing this up was to point out that if you got notification of an oversell situation consider yourself lucky, you could be like me and not find out until you check in.

Thank you for your answer. I agree with you that this had to be a major disappointment and I am sorry you had that happen. I also agree with you that if you paid for Club Level And didn't have it the difference should have been refunded to you. It sounds like once you contacted Disney they have done the right thing for you. Good for you!!!

I understand it's in the fine print, but I completely disagree with this. If you book club level and PAY for club level, or a suite, or a deluxe, etc. and you get there and get a standard room, no club level or get moved to a resort that isn't in the same price range as the one you paid for - they absolutely must compensate you. If I arrive for a one-bedroom suite in the Grand Floridian RPC, and they tell me "oh sorry, that isn't available, but we put you in a standard room at the Wilderness Lodge...that isn't acceptable.

As you can see in the post directly above yours, I stated that I agree. If you PAY for a level of resort that you do not receive you should have the difference returned to you. I agree with that. All I was saying is that all you are guaranteed is some room somewhere. That is what you agreed to. So it comes down to the fact that they should compensate the difference, not that they must. It is in the terms you agreed to.
I don't think that happens, nor should it.
Once the poster brought her issue to Disney after she was home, she was "Pixie Dusted" for an upcoming trip. Sounded to me like the poster was satisfied with the outcome.

Yes I know. But the way you state it makes it sound like "oh it's ok for them to do that - it's in the fine print"...I have a hard time believing that would hold up legally were they to downgrade something someone paid for and not refund them accordingly. No, it isn't the end of the world getting moved to another resort or room - BUT that room should have to be big enough to accommodate your party size comfortable and have the same amenities for which you paid. And then there's all the other factors that come with being moved to a different resort...like dining reservations, cabanas, etc that were planned around the resort in which you were staying. I'm not saying you are WRONG, but I am saying that by the time I left to go back home I would absolutely have been compensated for the cost difference and the inconvenience. That is ridiculous to expect otherwise.

She wasn't really "pixie dusted"...she was compensated for what she paid for and didn't receive.

I guess technically I wasn't "pixie dusted" youre right regan117 but I advocated for myself and in a tactful manner I told Disney how disappointed I was and they are now making it Right. Some people think this cant happen and while rare it does happen. That was my first trip to Disney so I wanted it to be perfect. Nothing is perfect, This time around I think Im a bit more prepared for the unexpected. I was just trying to make people aware that these things do happen.
