Disney's Written Policies On Pool Hopping

To be honest,

I think it's good for everyone to see what Disney's official policy on any topic is, pool hopping included. That's what an official policy is for, so that there is no questionable areas.

That being said, I think the hostility in this thread is a direct result of the hostility and bashing that the OP took in the last thread after she posed an innocent question about her young child trying the Poly pool. When a simple - Disney does not allow pool hopping would have sufficed.

I think that thread is still ever present in people's minds. And unfortunately has carried over in to this thread.

Just my .02 - Let's not end this one on a bad note as well.

thanks for the info i have always wondered about the pool thing. some people on the boards are always itching for a fight. i had the same thing happen with a moderator once on the "mug" subject and he or she, actually removed my complaint about him or her from the thread and wrote me a nasty private email. the gist of my complaint was that some people are visiting for the first time and the info is fresh for them even though we see it over and over. so why discourage certain subject matter just because its old to you.

I agree dalt01. And when this thread is buried and gone and someone innocently asks about pool hopping again, let's politely let them know what the policy is.

I agree with Ducklite. While staying at the Beach Club last labor day weekend there was a Florida resident that came with her family for one night - well she must have invited her whole block to come hang out by the pool - she had over twenty guests. I didn't turn her in - but I am truly sorry I didn't. They had no consideration for anyone else's enjoyment. There was also a family of three that came over every morning from POR to hang out by the pool for the day - the women had the nerve to ask me if I slept there because I always got the best table........the lifeguards asked this group to go. On the other hand there was a young couple there obviously crashing - came everyday - changed in the restrooms - got an ice cream cone from Beaches and Cream on the way out and asked everyone and anyone at the pool to take their picture - you couldn't help but like these two they were absolutely adorable. If the place is empty who cares - but for the money you pay to be there - I think you should be able to get a chair.

That was my point, too. :) I think that the information that Anne has given is certainly worthwhile, and had it stopped there, would be beneficial to all, since
there seems to be a lot of confusion and disagreement on Disney's official policies on pool hopping. Just thought I'd clear it up with the "written proof" directly from WDW.

We do appreciate the official word, but when personal opinion was added to that, it did become an extension of the previous thread.

Politely, I reiterate, please be kind when you are answering people's questions. Once upon a time, we were new to Disney and these boards, too.

I haven't had to go out of my way to find out someone is "pool hopping" they seem to like to brag about it. Come to think of it it has been at the BWI and the Polynesian. I got up and moved once so I could give a huge family;) my table with more chairs and then they told me they were staying at the ASM's and they new it wasn't O.K. to use the pool at the BW but hey it was such a great pool. Wow, never thought of just turning them in, that would be kind of funny after they bragged about it.

Now that would be some useful information for new posters. Make sure you don't brag you may get turned in.;)

Can't we all just get along? :)

This has me thinking though .. During EVERY trip to Disney our family begins the day a MK. And on those trips that I am not staying at the Poly, I always take a detour from the TTC to walk through the Poly's grounds, fill up my mug (its a Polynesian mug), and hop a monorail to the MK. Does this make me as bad as a pool hopper? I mean, to me, it just doesn't feel right starting a Disney trip off without a visit to the Poly (corny I know). Is my crowding the resort, and the resort monorail for that matter, as rude and inconsiderate as pool hopping?

Depends on what kind of soda you are filling up your mug with, and if I go and get soda and my brand is out.........oh, that's right I drink water;)

:D It's out favorite resort too.

So if you're so put out with the resort who allows the pool hopping, then choose another place to stay. After all, it's really the resort's management's responsibility to control such things. Instead of fuming about it, let the resort know that you don't appreciate others hopping to your resort pool and you will choose to stay elsewhere if they can't control it.

And I can see how someone who is a first timer may assume this is ok to do. Afterall, the resorts are all WDW. It's not like staying at Motel 6 and hopping over to the Raddison.

Haven't read this whole thread so I apologize if someone has already talked about this but years ago if you were an on-site guest you could swim at any pool. When they added so many hotels they added the restriction. Some people who don't visit as often as we Dissers may not know of the change.

We've never pool hopped because to us going back to our resort and swimming is a great part of the day.

I will say that last March during the week before Easter the Poly pools were jammed....even the quiet pool which is usually very quiet. We were in Rapa Nuie and saw numerous families trudging from the TTC toward the pools and beach in full swimwear. I don't know if they were DVCers, people from other resorts or local families. Another Mom and I were talking to a guard and asked why room keys weren't checked and the guard explained they didn't want to ruin people's experience of the resort. He put it better than that though!:D I think it's one of those no win situations for the resorts.

I also don't think DVC owners should be able to pool hop now that there are so many of us. Of course, I'm too chicken to post that opinio on the DVC board.:D

Ditto to what married2grumpy & vbfamily said. A lot of people ask about pool hopping policies and she supplied the information. Give the gal a break.

I have to agree.

If you are not concerned about pool hopping and it does not bother you that others do this, then don't even comment to a thread titled "Disney's Written Policies on Pool Hopping".

When you do, it might lead someone to believe you are just looking for an argument.

I agree Sammie. Anne was just supplying info.

It seems that hardly a week goes by without somebody asking about (non-DVC) pool-hopping. So posting the official policy is highly appropriate. In this way she is providing information without being judgemental about any particular person.

I love the Polynesian too, and visited it briefly during a recent stay. But use the facilities when not staying there?! No way! I walked down the paths, looked at everything, checked out the GCH, smelled the flowers. That's all I need. (OK, I sat in one of the lobby chairs, and probably used the restroom. So sue me. )

I dont think that the majority of people here who have been a little sarcastic about the original posters commwnts disagree with the point that people shouldnt be poolhopping. I think it came about because of the way she said she would be even more dilligent about turning people in. She did kind of come off as the type of person who worries too much about what everyone else is doing as opposed to justgoing about her business and having fun. That may not be the case, but to me thats what came across. To me, those type of people are just as bad as people going against the rules. I really think thats what most of the people arguing with the original poster were joking about. I would be upset if someone was obviously at the pool who shouldnt be and as a result my family wouldnt find a chair or whatever, but Im sure not going to spend too much time worrying about it and watching everyone else, but thats me. Im just so happy that my family will be at disney in a month, i just hope everyone here has a great time at disney whether your the pool cop, soda fountain cop, and everyone else! Work stinks, going to disneyworld is great!! Can we all agree with that?

Going to WDW is great, I agree! I have to say though that after my experience at the Poly with the pool hoppers last time that I wouldn't think twice about turning them in this time. I only had two families that I saw evicted there due to pool hopping but I wonder how many more there really were. I wouldn't be on the look out for pool hoppers but if they were yapping about how they were staying at the WL and trying out the Poly pool I'd most certainly tell someone. Luckily we go during down times in October and May and have never had to do without a chair. Most of the time we always got a nice poolside table anyway but there were plenty of chairs to be had. I can certainly understand the frustration of paying big bucks only to have a bunch of pool crashers coming in and taking over stuff that is rightfully for the guests at that resort. It really doesn't matter if there is one person or one hundred. It still doesn't make it right and it still can affect you. I do agree that if one asks and it given permission from Disney than that is fine with me. Their rules to bend if they want.

im sittin here readin this and thinkin that if some average person whose idea of a big day is makin sure theres no weeds in the corn would happen on to these three pages by mistake theyed most likely think we were all just a little bit nuts, and theyed be right i think, but as john travoltas character said in the movie Broken Arrow about bein a little nutty and obsessive "but aint it cool"?

I once knew a co-worker who moved to Orlando and used to tell me, when we would talk, about which pool at Disney that he would go swimming at on any given weekend. I truly thought that was so tacky as he had enough money to afford his own pool if you know what I mean. Plus it just isn't right for someone not even staying ANYWHERE at Disney to swim in a pool.. I haven't talked to him in a while but wonder if he still gets away with using Disney pools when not even staying there. Feel free to turn him in if you see him, it would serve him right.. ;) Checking Ids at the pool not only keeps pool hopping guests at bay it keeps out the Orlando locals.... ;)
