Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE Information & Questions

It sounds as though they are possibly re-chinking the log structure. Which would mean removing all the old chinking (the caulk between logs, so to speak, sometimes a cement mixture) and replacing with new. In order to remove the old, I imagine they would use an air chisel type tool, which would sound much like a jackhammer. (DH has no standard hours of tinkering in the garage, so I hear a lot of random tools!).

This is speculation, but the way they are moving around the entire building, it would make sense?

We've been at the lodge since Sunday. This has been the worst experience ever with transportation. No busses to or from the parks. Super long waits and busses are full when they get here to pick up. We spent last week at POFQ and had great bus service. The lodge is beautiful and room is great, but we can't seem to get to the parks or back in a reasonable amount of time. I feel bad for the CM at the bus stop as he doesn't seem to be able to do anything and people are very frustrated.
That must be really frustrating. I hope the bus service improves for the remainder of your trip.

Leaving in about an hour for the airport! It has been a long morning! The only downside is we don't land in Orlando until 8:30PM.

I can't believe they STILL have scaffolding up! Been that way our last few trips!

We have been here since Monday and noticed the same thing. The boats have been great. The buses seem to not be able to keep up. Whether going to MK, AK, or coming back from HS it has been a long delay. We have often seen other resort buses arriving two or three times before the WL bus arrives at parks to bring people back to the lodge. The rest of the resort is just amazing.

following along to keep up with all the construction news.... we are staying at WLV in April.

Well it's been a week since we've been home and I'm still sad :worried:

I'm not sure if there is a list anywhere with room numbers and confirmed views, but we had 6020 (bunk beds with woods view) and had a wonderful view of the fireworks at night!

The construction was barely noticeable in terms of the scaffolding - it was over the front of the lodge and the end of the wing to the left side of the pool. The only time we even noticed it was the noise (jackhammering) when we were walking to and from the boats.

The boat service was top notch. I don't think we ever waited more than five minutes for one and it definitely made coming back from MK an enjoyable end to the night. The buses were pretty good as well. The only bus complaint we have was the that the bus to AK seemed to make such a long trip. And it stopped by CR first. (Which if I was paying the $$ to stay at CR and had to share a bus anywhere, I'd be irritated.) The only time we ever waited for a bus was the return from HS. It started to rain and the bus pulled away right as we were walking up to the stop. It was okay though as we just stayed under the shelter and remained dry.

We were there for 24 hour event and had FP+ to see Anna & Elsa at 6:20 a.m. and got there with plenty of time. We also had pre-park ADRs for Crystal Palace at MK and H&V at HS and again, had no trouble at all getting there in plenty of time for both those events using the bus.

The Lodge was amazing, the staff and mousekeeping did such a great job of making the visit so enjoyable. I miss it!!!!

So glad you had a great time.

The noise you heard walking to the boats, was it heard at the pool at all?

Thanks!

Thanks for the trip report. We love to hear them. :) I'm glad you had a great trip.

The first time we stayed at WL we had room 6018 and it had a good view of the fireworks, too. It was an unexpected bonus. :)

Yes, I remember thinking I was glad we weren't having a pool day! Now, the pool was pretty hoping with music and games and all of that, so if you were in the pool it probably was just background noise.

That being said, it's probably changed in the week since we've been gone! It was definitely moving along and I'm sure whatever it was they were doing has been completed and they've moved on to something else by now.

The work continues at WL...everyday at 10 AM! I am going to talk with someone today about the noise. I did see the source of the noise yesterday and it is the bottom floor remodel for the new villas??? The sound will bother you unless you are out of the room from 10 AM to later afternoon. It is hard to even watch TV without blasting the sound. Hey, we don't need to set an alarm because we are sure to get a wake-up call at 10! I would rethink staying here if you like to sleep in or rest in the afternoon. I would assume this will get worse with the planned construction. The lodge is nice and housekeeping is fine as well as the boat and busses for us.

Thank you. We aren't going until the end of July so I'm hoping they will be further away by then.

So sorry to hear you are having such troubles with noise. Not a great way to enjoy a vacation.

I hope maybe they can get you to a quieter section of the resort.

Are these rooms that are being converted to DVC located anywhere near the big pool or the villa pool? I'm not sure if I want to stay here in July now.

They are on the side nearest the Villas. You could hear the noise from the villa pool but I am not sure you would have any problems at the villa rooms. The outside noise doesn't bother us just the inside noise. We are still having a good time but the noise is a bit much.

I don't think you would have the noise problems at the villas, sorry what I wrote was not clear.

I have a separate thread dedicated to the WL DVC Conversion HERE. The last page has recent photos of the WL rooms that are under construction in the South Wing facing the VWL pool area.

Thank you for your little TR and for your photo. I'm going to put your photo in the ROOM chapter since it captures your Wishes view from inside the room so well.

I can't believe they didn't notify guests about this. They can try and keep it a secret, but jackhammering isn't an easy secret to keep:sad2:. I think this is the perfect opportunity to demand to know what's going on down there:rotfl:. I'd LOVE to know what story they come up with now or if they rehash the "HA room experiment" story.

Please see if they will tell you how long this will be going on, even after you leave and what they're doing. Do you know if they have taken some of the rooms in that area out of inventory? Have you been able to get any resolution?

What floor are you on? Were you right above the construction or higher up? I'm guessing your in the south wing (closer to Villas)

Sorry it's been bad for you.
