Wasn't sure where to post this info but wanted to share....

Can't get enough of the new HDTV and surfing around last night payed off! Ran across pretty good HD special, "WDW's Ultimate 10" on the Discovery HD Theater channel. Their website has it sked again Sunday Jan 30th and Saturday Feb 5th at 5:00pm. It's only an hour long but looks great on HD....

I saw that was going to be on last night and i recorded it with my dvr because i was out. Hopefully will watch it tonight!
Dont you just love HDTV!

Bill

I was excited to see that the date was 2005. But that must just be the date for HDTV format because it isn't a new one. I still enjoyed watching it even though I don't have HDTV.

I DVR'd it last night. I can't wait to watch it this evening. I  HD! There is also a Disneyland special on HD this month or early next month.

You are so lucky. I've asked around all my friends and family and no one has that channel. That other show, America's Thrillmakers, is also on Discovery HD Feb 16th. Has anyone seen that one?

OK, don't keep it to yourselves... What did they consider the Ultimate 10?

Actually, I think they had more than 10 attractions. When programs appear both on Discovery HD and on Travel Channel/Discover, the HD versions tend to run longer due to the lack of commercials. Perhaps that's the reason they had more than 10.

I'll try to remember them all:

Tower of Terror
Test Track
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Rock N Rollercoaster
Buzz Lightyear (Families)
Goofy's Barnstormer (Kiddies)
Mission Space
Dinosaur
Kali River Rapids
Backlot Tour (canyon)
Summit Plummet
They also showed Philharmagic VERY briefly at the end.

As the show began, I had already guessed most of them--it's not hard. But it was nice to see the likes of Buzz, Backlot Tour and Barnstormer added for a little variety.

I'd say 80% of the footage was reused from prior Travel Channel / Discovery programs, but it's still absolutely stunning to see the shows in HD. I've had HD at home for about 18 months now, and Discovery probably has 4-5 different Disney programs in the rotation, this being the newest. Too bad they don't play them more often.

Explain which Travel Channel shows these compare to. I've never seen any shows on the Travel Channel with the same titles.

andrabell,

which dvr do you have? I have DirecTV and love my directivo but cannot put $1k out for HD TiVo :sad1:

HD Dinsey shows are great. It's HD. It's Disney.

Is this the informercial they show at Disney? My gosh, I think I saw that 20 times on our last trip. On that one, they listed Mission Space as #1. The girl hosting it is seared into my brain I saw it so many times putting the kids to bed and in the mornings....

Thanks, they were pretty much what I thought, but it is interesting to see Buzz and Backlot Tour included!

My digital cable company leased me an HD DVR for $10 per month.

I used to have Directv with a Samsung HD reciever and no dvr. I love the HD. An offer came up to switch to Time Warner digital cable with HD reciever DVR and RoadRunner broadband access for about the same price i was paying directv.
HDNet and Discovery HD have the best programming.
Im a big fan of HD cable. No weather dropouts!

I was surprised to see Backot tours on the list as well, it is a fun attraction, but ultimate top 10?

Oh my look at that counter now :cool1:

I've not seen this exact program yet on the Travel Channel Discovery, but it's similar to many others they have shown like "Behind the Scenes Walt Disney World" and "America's Thrillmakers". And a good portion of the footage used in this newest program is recycled from previous shows.

No!!!!! Travel Channel and Discovery probably have 10-20 programs that cover different Disney Theme parks and resorts. I don't couldn't tell you the exact titles, but here are some descriptions:

They have episodes of their Great Hotels series that look at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Yacht / Beach Club, Grand Floridan, Wilderness Lodge and Grand Californian. There are "Behind the Scenes" programs for WDW, DL, DLP. There's a show specific to the Animal Kingdom. Another takes a look at the Imagineers who design the rides, and touches on all of the worldwide theme parks. There are several that highlight thrill rides, and yet another that just focuses on Holiday (Christmas) celebrations at Walt Disney World.

Most are hour long programs, with the exception of the Great Hotels episodes which run 30 minutes.

The opposite happened here. About 8 months ago Dish Network started offering local channels in our area. Switched to Dish, added PVRs in two rooms (local cable didn't have this option), added Cinemax, kept the HD, switched Internet from cable to DSL and netted a savings of about $20 per month.

Both Dish and DirecTV now have local channels in our area, and I think the local cable company is finally starting to slash prices. When I was with them, they really ripped-off folks in this area. But, without the local stations, DW would have killed me for switching.

As far as Dish goes, our only signal loss was some channels for about 1 1/2 days following an ice storm. All things being equal, I probably would have stayed with the cable company. But I wasn't about to sit and wait for them to cut prices and start offering modern technology like the PVR.

My dear person...We have HDTV DVR from Comcast. I wouldn't change it for the world. The DVR with HD is only $10 per month over the cable service (we get all channels save for premium movie channels). Worth.Every.Penny.

Here's a bold request. Does anyone have the capability to record these 2 shows for me? I'm willing to pay for it.
Of course I only ask if you happen to be there watching because I wouldn't want anyone going out of their way to use pre-record settings and all that tedious stuff.

Have watched this show twice now and it is just incredible. 1080i is the first video format that really does WDW justice.

If you ask me, having HDTV without a HD DVR is like vacationing at Disney World and not bringing your camera.
