Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Thanks so much. DH was actually hoping for a room with a king bed, especially since we don't really have a need for 2 queens with the Murphy bed. I booked our room before I realized we'd need to book "King Bed" as it's own category. Though, I'd still prefer being guaranteed a preferred location, so it's not a problem.

If you get allocated a room that is officially classed on the system as 'Preferred Location' then it definitely won't have a king bed, nor a pool/river view. It will have two queen beds and be facing either the gardens/bayou or a parking lot. However if you put in a request (ideally by fax 3-5 days out) then they may be able to find you a currently unallocated King Bed room within the same buildings which they could upgrade you to (or side-grade, depending on the prices at the time). You might even get a King Bed with a river view if you're really lucky, but do remember that this would technically be a category change so could not be guaranteed.

for those who have stayed in ground floor rooms, have you ever had any issues with noise from above? We've always stayed in upper floors but avoiding stairs would be nice.

For those that have stayed in a Pool View.....
We are looking for a map with "Pool View" rooms hi-lighted....... We'd like to see the possible rooms?
We had to opt for a pool view as the standards were not available.... just wondering ... anyone that has stayed Pool View... what building were you in? Is the view obstructed? Are there more pool view rooms in Magnolia Bend vs Alligator Bayou? We are hoping for Oak Manor or Magnolia Terrace! thanks

Thanks for this. So it would be ok for me to fax in a request 3-5 days out to at least ask if we might be able to get either a king bed or river view room, obviously subject to availability of such a room? I know this would be in no way a guarantee, but wasn't sure if requesting this would be acceptable.

Just click on a building and it will tell you what category each room is. You can't get Oak Manor unless you booked Royal Room Pool View.

Hello everyone!

I am new to this thread, having just booked a Royal Room - River View at POR. We will be heading there December 30 to January 1, before heading over to the Beach Club until our Disney Cruise on January 6. It will be my first split stay and first time at POR.

We will likely get to POR quite late (i.e. 9:00 pm) on December 30 and plan to stay at the resort on December 31 as I am sure the parks will be madness. One option I was considering was maybe heading over to Disney Springs the morning of December 31 for breakfast, shopping, lunch and then back to enjoy the pools and have supper etc... Does anyone with experience on crowd levels for December 31 have an idea what the expected travel time by Disney Transport (is it just the bus that gets you to the Springs?) and will it be a challenge to get back? Or would we be better off to head there in the afternoon and do supper there?

Thanks for your feedback!

Oak Mannor would be for a specific type of room called a Royal Room. These rooms are more expensive, but they do guarantee that you would be in the Magnolia Bend Mansion section.

I can't speak for the crowds (other than to confirm that everywhere will be busy) but from Port Orleans you can take the river ferry to and from Disney Springs, or use the bus after 11pm (but I doubt you'll want to be travelling that late).

for those who have stayed in ground floor rooms, have you ever had any issues with noise from above? We've always stayed in upper floors but avoiding stairs would be nice.

We had a noise issue only one time. At 1 a.m., after park/bar closing, someone above us couldn't get in their room, so pounded on the door and shouted for about 5 min. before being let in. This was followed by loud stomping and commotion for another 20 min. A "neighbor" must have made a complaint call, because security showed up and quieted them down. We saw the couple leave the next day, looking a bit worse for wear. The next occupants were respectfully quiet.

We had a ground floor room last year for 8 nights and only one morning the kid(s) above us were jumping and running. The rest of the nights there was no issues. Even on the one night that there was noise it only lasted for around 30 minutes.:)

Returning to POR tomorrow and couldn't be more excited! Any news yet on any Easter Sunday activities (meet & greet/candy scramble/anything) at POR? I've been checking here & the portorleans.org site but haven't seen anything listed yet. Thanks!!

We have actually gotten this room twice when staying at POR in a preferred room. We didn't mind it as the set up felt quite different.

Yes, we got it too. I figured it was since we were a family of 4 only, so didn't need the murphy bed. Probably full to capacity like Andre said. It was in August. Must've had more of a need for 5 than handicapped.
It was the ground floor corner room in 27 in the back. Quiet though , as someone was asking.

Other resorts are holding campfires. Why would the ones at POR be banned?

Also those at Fort Wilderness were given papers telling them no campfires, or fire pits due to burn ban, but they could use propane tanks. I'm awfully tired of waking up smelling the fires & im on the coast where small fires keep popping up.

Looking at POR for a trip this June. Is it still possible to get a decent room with less than two months out or should I be looking at a different location?
