Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Can you be in a garden view room but still have an obvious view of a parking lot? Friends are there now and they booked a garden view room because a standard view wasn't available. They are in AB, building 36. They see vegetation outside their room, but lots of parking lot all around too. They are wondering if they could truly be in a garden view room?

Yes, some Garden View rooms let you see through the garden areas to parts of the parking lot - but usually with vegetation, trees, courtyard, etc between, so they don't directly overlook cars. Here's the layout of building 36 anyway, the Garden Views are the ones in green, Standard View are in white:

Thanks, Andre! Looks like they are in a garden view room after all. Quite surprised. At least they are a short walk from their car!

So what type of weather should be ready for? (we are going to be there December 11 - 17th) should we even bother packing swim suits?

Honestly, it can very even day to day. I've gone 4 out of the last 5 years during the first week of December ... the first 3 years were wonderful! Not too hot during the day (70's - which is great for us as we're from IN so 70's in December is a welcome treat!) and maybe a long sleeve tee in the evening (I get cold easily so it's a preference thing lol). The last year we went (two years ago) It was HOT - easily 80's every single day. We didn't swim but you easily could have. So really I'd say to check Orlando weather about a week out from the trip and see what they project the weather to be. If it's temps you will swim in - go for it! You definitely won't be alone :)

We were there Dec 13-22 in 2015. The weather was unseasonably warm. We packed for cooler weather, but once it got closer we could see it was going to be hot, we switched things up. Definately look at the weather the week before you leave. ( We have a picture of my grandson at the Osbourne Lights with no shirt on, it was that nice.)

Would someone mind confirming something for me? We'd like to request building 34 (quiet building close to west depot) - the Port Orleans Unofficial Guide website says rooms 3416, 3417, 3448 & 3449 are standard rooms, but when I look at the room view on TP it lists them as garden view. Does anyone know the correct view type for these rooms? Not much point requesting building 34 if we pay for standard room and don't have a chance of staying there!

Also, 2 of those rooms have 'accessibility features' - what does this mean, and what are the chances of us getting this building if we don't have any accessibility needs? Thanks

Touring plans is wrong more than its right about room type. Andre's website is right

Thank you!!!

Yes. I stayed in a RR on discount in 2015. It's actually the hardest to get a standard room on discount, in my experience.

Question about laundry at POR and POFQ. Are there any dispensers for detergent on the washers or do you just put it right into the washer tub? I'm asking because the travel pods of detergent are convenient for travel, but at one hotel there were dispensers to put in the detergent and the pods did not work.
We're staying at POR, but might do laundry at POFQ. (The kids will do the pools while the moms do the laundry!)

(And I just checked the awesome PortOrleans.org info site and read about the neat online tool to check availability and status the washers and dryers! :cool1: How cool!)
Anyone know if the detergent pods will work? Thanks.

IME, the more expensive rooms on property, including POR Royal Rooms, are usually the ones included in the discounts. Most people book the least or moderately expensive rooms on a regular basis.

I really should be able to remember. I did laundry in July. I bought whatever they had there. I haven't a clue what it was. Sorry.

DH does laundry at home so I've never used them but don't you put the pods in the machine with the clothes? Wouldn't they always work?

They work fine if you can throw them into the washer tub itself. But I was at a hotel once where you had to put the detergent into a small dispenser thing in a special kind of HE washer, and the pods won't work in there, since the water isn't in that part to dissolve them - they got all gooey and gooked up.

Not specifically at Disney, but I've always just thrown the pods in with the clothing even when the washer has a detergent dispenser, and it's always worked fine. Our washer is like this at our farm office - I'm forever washing the guys nasty work clothes when they change midday and everything always comes out clean. Well, as clean as clothes covered in hydralic fluid or grease will get :P

Thanks - Duh! How silly of me not to think of that!
