Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Help! We're thinking about booking POR for January, but can't decide! We're concerned about how sprawling the resort is and the crowds for bus service. Is it a problem? Also, we'll have three adults and two kids and I've heard that with 5 guests that our building options are limited, is that true? We want to be close to the main building. Thanks.

With 5 guests you will be in one of the Alligator Bayou buildings. If you want to be closer to amenities then you will want to book a preferred room. In January, I wouldn't think it would be that crowded for bus service as its a somewhat slower time. Check the information at the beginning of this thread and Portorleans.org for building and bus information.

YeeHaw Bob was in rare form just last week. He had crowds like crazy during the "Y.M.C.A." song and people were having such a good time. It was nice!
Just saw he will be on vacation when we are at POR....gwaaaaa! Wanted to see him. Oh, well!

Thank-you for the reply. I am talking about the reservation number that in the past began with 44. I needed it two years ago for reserving BOG lunch ressie's online.(Not needed now).I have booked a package for POR so that may be why I don't have the reservation number visible?. Appreciate the help on DIS!
Lori
The only number that you will need will be your package number. You don't need the other reservation number.for anything. We stayed at PO last month and only needed the package number.

Any recommendations for a room request? We have a Royal Guest Room with a Garden View.

I really enjoyed being in the center of the building near the elevator of Parterre Place. It was pleasant to overlook the fountain and courtyard.

Anyone have any idea on the cost of the Mickey Tie Dye that they are doing in August?

We are there then, and I thought the kids might like to participate if it wasn't a zillion dollars. :)

Just the main Riverside Mill food court I'm afraid.

Sorry I missed you.

If anyone is going to be at Port Orleans on Saturday 6th August, I've got a little meet planned at the River Roost Lounge at 7pm - see https://www.facebook.com/events/1137482842981655/.

It's finished now, they took everything away last week.

I posted it last night.

Andre
Thank you! I guess I was just too darn excited to get there

Is beer sold in the resort store? I'm thinking of ordering some snacks and beer from Garden Grocer, but it appears they mostly have 12 pack choices (Michelob Ultra). 6-pack is enough for our short stay.

We have our first stay at POR booked for May 2017. :yay:I am so excited! I have wanted to stay at this resort for a really long time.

Based on your experiences, when would be the best time to request a building/location? Thank you!

I have my requests noted on my reservation.

Looking at booking next August, and we usually stay at Contemporary (mostly for ease of transportation), but trying to be a little more budget friendly...
I know you can't really answer if we will be happy here - but how will we feel about the busses? I do like the reviews on the resort in general and picked it as my first moderate choice.

I am staying here in 28 days for the first time. Whoo hoo! Just a question - it showed Muddy Rivers closing at 6pm while we are there. Is that normal? At some other onsite resorts I have been to the pool bars stay open later. I also noticed they don't have food on the menu on the Disney website, but thought I read they at one time offered light food. Did that change? Thanks!

Absolutely LOVE POR... have stayed in Contemporary a few times as well as many others. We just love POR even after countless stays (at least 25 or so..)
That said, we hate the bus service. We tried it again last trip a few months back and it was so bad we wrote a review about it. Part of my concerns are really just about the buses in general. In particular when we were there, both to and from the park there were HUGE groups of people that came with one person in an ECV. The went right past literally 100 people in line to leave and filled half the bus. I'm all for equal access for folks but that is just ridiculous. Groups of 10+ were just allowed to get on and bypass the whole line...

Anyhow, sorry I digress. besides that, the buses were also very far apart. At POR they have screen which tell you the ETA of the next bus but ours was broken. We waited 55 minutes in the afternoon for a bus.

So.. aside from transportation I far prefer POR to Contemporary.. but it's really hard to beat being able to walk over to and from the park.

We have a preferred room booked for our trip in September. I'm going to request buildings 14 or 18 (18 in order to be a little closer to the west depot in case south proves to be too mobbed in the mornings for us to get seats), second floor, corner. Can I also request garden view or pool view or anything else or is preferred a category without those other options? Sorry, but I've only stayed at POR once before, in a royal room in Oak Manor, and I'm a bit confused. TIA.
