Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Is beer sold in the resort store? I'm thinking of ordering some snacks and beer from Garden Grocer, but it appears they mostly have 12 pack choices (Michelob Ultra). 6-pack is enough for our short stay.

What!? You don't share with your room neighbors? :teeth:

We always double what we think we will need. Then the last two days we pound so many our needs are for rest.

Absolutely LOVE POR... have stayed in Contemporary a few times as well as many others. We just love POR even after countless stays (at least 25 or so..)
That said, we hate the bus service. We tried it again last trip a few months back and it was so bad we wrote a review about it. Part of my concerns are really just about the buses in general. In particular when we were there, both to and from the park there were HUGE groups of people that came with one person in an ECV. The went right past literally 100 people in line to leave and filled half the bus. I'm all for equal access for folks but that is just ridiculous. Groups of 10+ were just allowed to get on and bypass the whole line...

Anyhow, sorry I digress. besides that, the buses were also very far apart. At POR they have screen which tell you the ETA of the next bus but ours was broken. We waited 55 minutes in the afternoon for a bus.

So.. aside from transportation I far prefer POR to Contemporary.. but it's really hard to beat being able to walk over to and from the park.

I've never really had bus issues. Sometimes I've had to wait a while to come back from MK at night, but that's probably the case no matter where you stay.

I posted this earlier in the general resorts forum, but haven't gotten a response yet. Does anyone know why "mansions area" is a preference option in online checkin but "AB section" is not an option?

Looking at booking next August, and we usually stay at Contemporary (mostly for ease of transportation), but trying to be a little more budget friendly...
I know you can't really answer if we will be happy here - but how will we feel about the busses? I do like the reviews on the resort in general and picked it as my first moderate choice.

We have also stayed at both Contemporary and POR. I love both. With my two year old I can't beat walking to MK. I don't think anything else compares to the location of the Contemporary. That said, I haven't had any bus issues at Riverside. They have always been timely enough for me. I stay at Riverside a lot for race weekends and so I guess I am taking the buss at more off hours, however the screens have always been pretty accurate for us and the waits weren't crazy or anything. Whether with family or on a race weekend I've always enjoyed Riverside. (I do think springing for a preferred room helps or making room requests to try to be close to the main building.

If it is, that's new, it wasn't there a few weeks ago. It has been under discussion for years, but the idea was to add both options - it was technically tricky though, as such a choice conflicts with some booking categories such as Royal Room and Preferred Location.

Wow, just checked and confirming I see it now too. It wasn't there when I looked maybe a week ago. A whole slew of other new options too, including bed types, connecting/adjoining room options and garden and pool view. Also one called baby gate (guaranteed) - any clue what that is? Maybe I need it for my little one. :)

Interesting. Yes, it's there. I wonder if that means the Mansions area is requested by more people. In any case, we really want AB, which I specified in my original reservation, and will put in my fax as well. Some of the other options had me wondering as well, such as garden view and pool view, because I thought those were specific categories that you booked and paid for. Thanks for your reply!

Thinking those might come into play if you booked preferred or royal as the category.

I checked in last week and it wasn't there. Good for us though since we are AB fans.

Maybe you can't request AB since they have to put those on reserve for parties of five.

Could someone with an upcoming reservation post a screenshot of the new requests screen on the online check-in page for POR? Thanks. Requesting Garden or Pool views sounds very odd (unless you have a King Bed booking anyway).

I just did these quickly, but here:

The "Room Request 2" options are identical to "Room Request 1."

We have a preferred room booked for our trip in September. I'm going to request buildings 14 or 18 (18 in order to be a little closer to the west depot in case south proves to be too mobbed in the mornings for us to get seats), second floor, corner. Can I also request garden view or pool view or anything else or is preferred a category without those other options? Sorry, but I've only stayed at POR once before, in a royal room in Oak Manor, and I'm a bit confused. TIA.

Not sure of the ability to request garden or pool view on preferred we have sometimes gotten one or the other, but we always choose preferred & buildings 14 or 18 because they are super close to the main/south depot and the food court. Not sure how close building 18 is to the west depot as we just cut across the parking lot to the south depot. We've never had an issue about getting a seat on the bus anytime we go to a park etc. maybe we're just lucky I guess and we usually stay at POR about 5x a year.

Thanks, I'll have a chat about these with the room inventory manager. I see King Bed and 2 x Queen Beds are listed as requests too, very strange.

Andre

And it must have just changed, since when I did my request for my room request 2 weeks ago for next week, I only had like 5 check boxes to select. No drop downs. I'll look again when I have a chance.

Thanks, I have a request for 14 on file already, did that when I booked the bounceback last September, but I was going to add 18 to my fax. Maybe I'll just leave it alone. I can't resist the urge to mess with reservations and dining plans since we're only 39 days out now and I'm getting antsy.

It has definitely changed since I did our check in last month for the 26th. I just went in to take a look at the new choices and I keep getting an error screen that I have no reservations elegible for online check in at this time. Hopefully just a glitch. I'll have to check back later.
