Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Do you think the pool might be done by March 26?

Disney's permit deadline is April 29, 2016 to complete the pool.

On Disney's website it says "Please note that Ol’ Man Island Pool will be closed for refurbishment from January 11, 2016 through Spring 2016."

If I were going before the end of April I would be prepared it might not be completed.

A few months back, Andre helped me mock up a room request for Magnolia Terrace. As our travel date nears, and after seeing the pics with scaffolding and fencing all over the place, I'm seriously thinking about changing to Alligator Bayou.

I do hope so, but they've removed ALL of the tiling from the pool and hot tub, so I wonder if they are going to put a new design in place? In much the same way as the room refurbs changed the decor details if not the actual layout. Hopefully the spirit will stay the same though.

This POR Disney nut can't help but wonder what they will do with all those old pool tiles if they're going to be replacing them with new ones? I mean, think of how those tiles could be put to nostalgic good use ... hot plates, garden stepping stones, a garden path ..... I know I would dance down this path if I had one in my backyard made up of POR frogs and lillypads pool tiles. :)

Or you could request Acadian House, or simply a room well away from visible construction work.

Is there separate shampoo and conditioner at the moderates?
I assume there are hairdryers in the room?

I have a Royal Room/ pool view booked first part of April, is this the building getting the roof work done?

We will be staying at POR for the first time 3/18-23. I just read the pool may be closed? Does anyone know when it's suppose to open? We live on FL and visit WDW regularly. When we go on mini trips it's to explore a new resort and enjoy the pool. Should I switch resorts? The pool is a big factor for us in our vacation. Thanks in advance for the help. We are making this an all out Surprise trip for our Princesses.

I'm also going at the end of April and will be pretty mad if the main pool is closed. Really, we should get a discount for that. It's bad enough that all the discounts are so limited when it comes to Riverside. (It seems everyone I know gets discounts. I go ever year, sometimes twice, and pay full price.) closing the main pool is a big deal (yes, I know there's "quiet pools", but that's not the same.) this should be considered in the price. Am I wrong?

I'd request Acadian House. Love that location.

Since you ask, yes. You didn't book a pool, you booked a hotel room. Any more than you'll get a discount if you go to Epcot for the day and you find Soarin' is closed.

However by the end of April the POR main pool should be open again anyway, so it's probably a moot point. (Soarin', however, is a different matter).

Also, as far as discounts are concerned, I only ever stay at Riverside and never have trouble getting a discount. It just depends what time of year you go.

I guess it depends what time of year you go. We've always had discounts. I do see there were discounts released for April.
You can use POFQ pool too

Ok, I spent the last week or so reading this entire thread as time permitted, and didn't see this mentioned anywhere. Are there room for strollers on the boat to disney springs?

We stayed at WL when they were redoing the pool in Oct 2014. We heard about some people getting $50 per credits for the inconvenience, so when we checked in we asked about it. The CM gave us a weird look and said "didn't you know it would be closed?". We said something about how it doesn't make it any better and we heard about the other people getting the credit, so they gave it to us. We were only staying 3 nights but they added $150 to our account, which we used for magic band spending.

Sometimes if you are sweet about being disappointed about the pool ("I am so sad, I thought it was supposed to be open by now, that's why we wanted to stay here") they will try to make it up to you. Worth a shot.
