Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Is it possible to upgrade from a garden view to a preferred room without losing our room only discount? We booked with the RO discount and room is paid for, but now I'm starting to panic that we may not get a room in AB, which is a must for us (we need the pull down bed for DS to sleep on, otherwise he will insist on sleeping with me and I can't handle that for five nights straight ;) ). I plan on faxing a request 5 days out, but if we could pay the extra $75 more for preferred and be guaranteed AB, I'd consider it......but it would NOT be worth losing our discount over it.

Why would getting a preferred view room guarantee you an AB room? I've had several preferred rooms and been in the mansion section. Unless something has changed that I'm not aware of.

When trying to book online, Preferred rooms actually list "Two queen beds and one bunk sized pull down bed", where the other categories list the option of that, OR two queen beds. And on the Port Orleans.org website, the only preferred location buildings are shown in the AB section.

Sorry, but there have never been any Preferred Location rooms anywhere in the mansion buildings, only in Alligator Bayou buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27.

Changing a booking requires the new room option and price to be currently available on the system, so it may not be possible to do so without losing the original discount. It can't hurt to ask though.

Otherwise make sure a request for AB is on the reservation, and follow that up with a fax 3-5 days before arrival.

I realize that it's 'pixie dust', but what is the probability of being granted late check-out? We have a late flight out on our last day. We leave on a Wednesday.

I'm also confused as to what time the buses start to MK on a 9:00 open day - we have an 8:00 ADR at CP - can I safely expect to get off a bus at 7:30 (I've seen pictures of that snaking pre-opening ADR line)? If they don't start early enough for my comfort, we will have a car.

Now, when I booked (over the phone), the very nice CM asked if I had any requests. Not having expected that, as I usually book online, I wasn't prepared, so I just said we really wanted AB, and I loved the building we stayed at on our last visit, which I think was maybe 16. She said ok. Should I assume she actually put down that request, or should I call back again and ask to add a room request to my reservation? I don't want to be bothersome (and frankly I HATE making phone calls!), but we had SUCH a great location and experience on our first trip, that I don't want to feel mildly disappointed this trip by being stuck in the mansions or a lousy location

Out of curiosity how is building 26 in the AB section. Was thinking of making that request via Touring Plans. But in all honestly, I'm not really picky.

Really depends on what you are looking for. I requested and received 26 last year (also being upgraded from standard view as this building is only garden view) it is a hike from everything (not as bad as some roms) but I wanted the seclusion it offered as it is not near a pool which can sometimes get loud even if they are quiet pools. Closest bus stop is West but DONT follow the sign to get to it as they take you on a longer path. Look at your map and follow the shorter paths.

Thanks. We have a garden room and I honestly don't know where to request. I'm tempted to just let POR decide for me.

Busses start at about 6:30am each day, I would safely assume that if you were at the bus stop by 6:30 you should easily be at the MK for 7:30

Could have sworn I've had preferred views in the mansion section. Sorry if that's in error now.

We check in on Saturday! Yikes! That's so close! I have a transportation question. I've read that traffic to Downtown Disney is a nightmare. So if we take the water taxi to Downtown Disney, can we then take the water taxi to Epcot?

No water taxi to epcot from downtown or POR. You would take a bus direct from the resort or take the Beach Club bus from downtown and walk to Epcot from there.

You can get preferred "views" in both sections, but the poster was asking for preferred "rooms" and they are only in AB.:)

Yes, the specific Preferred Location booking category introduced in 2011 has only ever included rooms in Alligator Bayou buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27 - although not quite all of the rooms within those four buildings fall into that booking category, as 6 rooms are classed as Pool View, 15 are King Bed, and 31 are River View.

There is no other view distinction within the Preferred Location booking category by the way, it is purely based on proximity to the main buildings and South bus stop. So if you book Preferred, although you will most likely get a garden view, you could also get a parking lot view. But without being upgraded, you won't get an official pool or river view.

There have never been any official Preferred Location rooms within the mansion buildings, nor in French Quarter. That's not to say that there aren't some great locations within those sections of course, just that they aren't sold by Disney at a premium 'Preferred' price point.

And here endeth Preferred Location 101. :)

I have to say that today was an awesome experience with the CastMember on the phone altering our POR reservation. She was able to pull up our reservations from 2 years ago all the way to the room number and dining reservations. I know its all in a database, and it would be nice if *we* had access to that information, but it still was nice for her to go the extra step to help us get that information and request the same room.
