Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

I have heard that the North and West bus Depots are less crowded in the morning and it is easier to get a seat on the buses. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

North bus stop was always very quiet. I don't think I ever saw more than 3 other families there. South is far, far busier. We always had seats to the parks.

We are going back to POR and we stayed in the Magnolia previously. I think we may have had a standard room on 2nd floor, because I don't remember seeing much garden. I felt like it was close enough to the East depot bus and short walk across the bridge to the main pool. I'm kind of wondering the same thing about what I should request. We are going back in October. I have a garden room booked. I'm wondering if the ground floor is fine and better courtyard view, but hey if our garden view kind of shows the river too, that would be good. Honestly I'm not concerned that much with the view, but more about the location in the building and quickness of getting in/out. I think we want Magnolia again.

When I am in the Mansions, I like a higher floor and a corner room.

Thoughts on the carriage rides? I want to book one as a treat for my parents and I thought it would be a nice way for them to start the trip. We're going to arrive at POR around 7pm and we'll probably want to stop in the food court for a quick meal first. Is there any preference to doing them before it's dark? The pictures I saw after dark look lovely, but the last time we were at POR it was Dixie Landings, so I don't know if it would be nice for them to be able to see the grounds.

We always use either the North or East depot. They are not as crowded and crazy as the main Depot.
Anyone there just relaxes on the benches untill their bus arrives. Very civilized lol

I find the main South Depot very frustrating. It's crowded, and confusing. Everyone just stands in the queue whether or not it's their bus, so no one knows who's waiting to get in the arriving bus or not. People, if it's not your bus kindly step out of the way!!
We almost missed our bus because the large group in the queue in front of us wasn't getting on the bus. I couldn't see past them to tell that they weren't moving forward along the queue till it was almost too late.

We generally get off at South Depot returning, to fill our mugs before heading to room.

Don't worry, dusk/dark is a lovely time to do a carriage ride, the area is illuminated and the resort is still VERY pretty at night. It might be a good idea to pre-book though, as although walk-ups are sometimes available, that's not always the case and it'd be disappointing to miss out.

We will be staying at POR for the first time in June. We have a Garden room and was wondering what the best building would be to request. We are a family of 5 so I believe that puts us in the Alligator Bayou section by default, could be wrong.

Depends on what you consider best. Close to a bus stop? Close to a pool? Close to the food court? Take a look at the interactive map located here at www.portorleans.org to get a "lay of the land" so to speak.

Yes, with a party of 5 you will be in the Alligator Bayou section.

Greetings,
There are so many pages to this thread that it is overwhelming.
We are heading to POR the week of May 6th and have a Royal Guest Room.
It will be 4 of us. 2 adult daughters, my wife and I.
Is there any difference between the 2 buildings that I should try and request?:rolleyes1

I prefer Oak Manor and would request a location close to the foot bridge.

For some reason, I had it in my head that you could do online ckeck-in at 45 days. What a thrill to log on to MDE yesterday (58 days) and see that "Do online check in" link next to my reservation! I am just too excited!! :Pinkbounc I requested highest floor and corner room, but don't really care that much about the choices you can make at this point. I've already been preparing my fax in my head :-) I can't wait to be back!!

We are arriving next month and we are super excited!
My family and I are staying at Riverside, and my parents are staying at French Quarter (POR was full when they booked). I have a Royal Room garden view booked. I have a few questions:

1. Is there an internal bus that my parents can take to POR, if so does it run frequently?
2. If we walk over to POFQ is it shorter to go from the Royal Room section or from the main building? I was hoping to stay in Oak Manor this time.
3. My parents have a river room booked at POFQ. Which building would be the best for them to request that would be closest to walk to POR, or which is the closest the their main building?

Thanks in advance :)

1. Yes, the Disney Springs service gets renamed as an internal shuttle while it is within the Port Orleans area, and it runs POFQ>POR-South>POR-West>POR-North>POR-East>POFQ. Should run at least every 20 minutes.

2/3. Yes, some of the Royal Rooms (especially in Parterre Place) are actually pretty close to Buildings 6 and 7 at French Quarter, and there are some really nice river views there. The top-right building is Parterre Place, and just across the road you can see POFQ building 7 (lower far-left) and 6 (lower middle). The shortest distance walking would be just over 300 yards if you got the closest two rooms.

However, if you get the rooms that are closest to walk between, they will be some of the more remote rooms within each resort, as far as walking to the food courts, etc. goes (although FQ is small enough to not make much of a difference - River View in building 6 is a really nice location all-round).

My opinion you just can't go wrong with Garden View. If the walk to eat is not an issue then let Disney choose. Even if you get more remote buildings there's a bus stop close by.

Reading Andres post, that's something I didn't know, about internal bus!

We've stayed in a river view at the end of Parterre, and even thou we also had friends in POFQ bldg 4, I wouldn't stay in that end of Parterre again. It was so far from ammenities at POR. Like main pool. Food court, etc.
I'd request Oak manor close to foot bridge ( there are 2 more foot bridges in mansion section, one between Parterre & Oak, and one between Acadian & Magnolia) We had that location (Oak near that bridge) last stay and it was great. Just cross foot bridge, right is POR main buildings, left is POFQ. Andre has given you a good suggestion at POFQ bldg 6.
We asked for (we had GV too) a location on riverside of building close to foot bridge. Got a great room facing the fountain on side closest to bridge. Great room, so pretty looking out at the garden and fountain. And steps from bridge.

which is the best bus depot for the Royal Rooms, East?
Depending on where you are, east is closest to Oak Manor, but From Parterre maybe South?
I've used East even if I'm at the far end of Parterre, simply because I don't like the South/Main depot.

OK. Want to stay in a RR sometime with DD but would rather not walk all the way to East from Parterre. Hope to get OM request!

Also, what is the average bus ride time from POR to Epcot? Thank you!
