Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I'm sure I'm asking something that's been asked before, so forgive me. We're traveling to Disney NYE. When should we fax our room request? How soon before? My mom has disability issues and we would benefit from being in Building 4, at least it sounds like it.
I would also use Andre's website advice for wording your room request- but remember it is just that particularly if you've paid for a standard room.
POFQ is such a small resort you won't have trouble wherever you are - and if your Mom intends to visit the parks she certainly won't have a problem at this lovely location.

They call him "Scales"! My grandchildren love him!
That's so sweet! I wish I had gotten a photo of my niece on the slide, but I was so pooped (it was our last day and we visited POFQ for beignets) that I was hanging out in the air conditioning.

I haven't been on a slide of any kind in years, but I might have to for this occasion! :hyper:

Hello all, looking for some help here. :)

My wife and I will be making a "babymoon" to Disney in January (20-27) and staying at POFQ. We have been to Disney World 1-2 times per year during our 4 year relationship (engaged at Magic Kingdom and honeymooned in Europe with a stop at Disneyland Paris), but this will be our first stay at this resort. This is one that I have been very excited for, and I think it is perfect for where she will be at with her pregnancy.

We have a KING room reserved, which I know can be spread around the resort. We are going to request to stay away from the buildings that are being refurbished, but any tips on which buildings or rooms to request knowing our situation? This will obviously be a different kind of trip for us, aimed at relaxing, enjoying things we haven't done before in the parks, eating at some new places, and preparing ourselves for whats to come. :)

Thanks!

With a King Room you can request a river view. We usually request top floor, building 6 corner room nearer to POR. You will have two windows and the stairs are right there. It's a short zigzag to get to the pool, bus, or food court.

However, I don't know how this will coincide with the refurb.

You didn't say what type of room you have - Standard or Garden. The Standards are on the parking lot side, and the Gardens are, well, on the Garden side - overlooking the inside of the property. If you are looking for a spot close to the busses or lobby/food court, you might want to word your request something like this:

"Due to disability issues, we are requesting a room close to transportation and lobby, and close to the elevator."

Of course, a room request is just that - a request, and there are no guarantees, but having those on your reservation will at least help you get what you need. If you are not happy with your room location, visit the front desk and explain your needs, and I'm sure that they will do what they can to help.

However, that being said, on one of our trips, I had my Travel Agent put our request on our reservation, I faxed 3-5 days in advance, and I used the Touring Plans fax service requesting connecting/adjoining rooms, close to transportation, and we ended up in two different buildings, as far from transportation as you could get and still be on POFQ property...needless to say, we visited the front desk, and while they couldn't do anything about it the first night, they at least did get us into building 4 the next day, with rooms fairly close (not next to, but close).

Check out Andre's great website for an understanding how the rooms are laid out....

Good luck....I know you will have a great trip!!!

Thanks! That makes a difference. I checked our reservation and unfortunately it's standard. Thought I had requested garden. Oh well. I will still send the request about 5 days prior. Our travel agent is aware of my mom's needs as well. Thanks!

Yes do fax it through but try not to worry - we asked for 5 and got it - perfect for pool, food court and a cut through footpath directly from the bus stops through building 4 and 5. Nowhere is far at POFQ.

We've never stayed at FQ, but are considering it for next spring!
We always stay at POR, but are not happy with the new dog policy.
When we passed FQ on the boat to DS, we noticed that the boats honked their horns loudly when docking.
I was wondering if the riverview rooms have a problem with the noise all evening long? It seems to me that it would be annoying.
We are early to bed, early to rise people. Thanks.

We have stayed mostly in riverview and have not been bothered by the sound. The boats stop by midnight and don't startup until after 9:00. We are usually in bed before they stop.

We too are early to bed and never noticed them when in the room.

Hi guys, I'm struggling to get my head around the size of this resort. How long would it take for the average person to walk from building 7 to the food court or bus stop? Thanks in advance!

Literally a few minutes! Even the furthest point is only five minutes along the straight lanes. Separated generally by pretty garden areas the largest open area is between 5 and 6 and that too is a garden.
When wandering with our toddler granddaughter I admit it took longer but honestly nowhere is far away.

Here now! Didn't get a river view but got a room so close to the lobby that I can't complain. Online check-in made it such a breeze! Had a muffuletta for dinner and king's cake for dessert. The CM was so nice to check for muffuletta for me as that station was already closed!

The rooms do feel a bit tired and the mattress isn't great, but that's probably more luck of the draw! Regardless, I love the resort and I know a soft goods refurb is on the way.

I stayed here 10/10 - 10/13 and just wanted to give a very brief overview of our stay, both the positive and negative in case anyone may find it helpful. This trip was just my husband and I. When we have kids in tow we are a family of five, so this was basically our only time to stay at this resort since I don't anticipate another trip by ourselves for a long time.

- Friendly staff. I guess I had the most interaction with the workers at the food court, and they all seemed pleasant, especially the cashiers.

- Pretty landscaping, I liked the canopy feel from the trees, and trees hid a lot of parking lot views. It was very hot when we were there so I appreciated the shade.

- I faxed in a room request 5 days ahead. I asked for a corner room not near a stairwell, and it was granted. I liked having the extra light and it made the room feel a little bigger.

- We were in a standard room and were in Building 3 which I felt was close to everything. It's definitely a very small resort footprint which I liked.

- I enjoyed the pontoon boat to Disney Springs on our first/arrival night.

- I thought the room was a decent size, we had a 2 queen bed room.

- My husband took the no housekeeping offer... we were only there for 3 days and just us so figured why not. On the 2nd day, they still came in and gave us new towels and coffee supplies though (we didn't have to ask). We got a $20 gift card which I blew on some food.

- Beignets... good, but very, very heavy and oil-laden, I was expecting them to be a little fluffier. I got 3 for breakfast one morning and could barely finish 2 of them!

- I thought the lunch food at the food court was pretty good. I got a shrimp po'boy which was a very large serving and well seasoned.

- Our room was perfectly serviceable but I feel in need of updating... the room was dusty, the AC units seem old and dated, the light in the bathroom took several minutes to reach full power, etc. There wasn't anything *wrong* with it, it just had an old, almost musty feeling to it, so hopefully the upcoming refurb will address all of that. Some of this might just be due to the motel-style of the building and that the room doors lead to exterior hallways as opposed to a regular hotel room, so outdoor air/elements may permeate the room more easily and age the room faster. Linens were clean and all supplies were there. The beds were comfortable.

- We walked from POFQ to POR for dinner at Boatwright's one evening which was a nice peaceful walk along the river, and not a long walk.

- We didn't experience the pool, hot tub or pool bar as we opted for Disney Springs on arrival night and the rest of our short time was spent at the parks. The pool and splash pad look like it would be a good fit for my young children... it was busy while we were there and the pool was completely swamped every time we walked by. I know the resort is small, but thought it could still benefit from an additional pool.

- Bus transportation was fine, it was constantly packed though, and our Animal Kingdom bus was nearly 25 minutes late one morning. Otherwise no issues aside from the sheer volume of people using bus transportation which can't really be helped. Anyway, the only time we shared a bus was on the way back from Animal Kingdom, POFQ was the first stop and then it was proceeding to Riverside from there. Nearly all of the Riverside people on that bus panicked because they thought they were on the wrong bus! Otherwise POFQ always had its own bus.

Overall, a good experience and if you are strictly an on-site person, a solid moderate. My husband who is non-Disney knowledgeable thought it would be more like a hotel (interior hallway, balcony) and at our price point, will likely be off-site from now on to accommodate what he looks for in a hotel stay, but it was a nice couples stay, the resort was picturesque, well-themed, and I think will be better once the rooms have been updated over the next year.

What dates are the room updates scheduled?
Never mind I found it a few pages back.
