Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Quick question: We check in next Wednesday and I wanted to place a grocery order for delivery (thru Safeway). Do they still allow this? Will they still leave it with bell services? Thanks.

We are staying at POFQ in May, we have switched from CBR due to the refurbishment. We have stayed at CBR many times but this will be our first time staying at POFQ. We have a river view room booked, can anyone advise a particular building/floor that they would recommend? Many thanks, we are excited to be staying here, it looks so pretty :)

One of the best things about POFQ is it is so small that none of the blocks are far away from anything so I would say don't worry too much but another poster may give you a particular reason for a location. Not long until your trip!

Yes they do - I've not done it myself but there has been a thread about deliveries recently (I believe there is a small charge for some deliveries but not for others). I hope someone will pop in with a full answer for you!

If walking up to POR is part of your plans request 6 or 7 as they are closer. That said we have also had rooms in all building except 4 and still walked up to POR several times a trip. We also been on all floors and really have had no issues.

How long of a walk is it from POFQ to POR?

We will have a rental car. Is there a road that connects POFQ with POR or will will have to exit FQ at their gate and enter the security entrance to POR?

I don't THINK you can drive between the two without going through the gates. Could be wrong, though... I just don't remember the buses doing that.

We are checking in next Friday (3/10) and I have a question about pool view rooms. I know previously pool view rooms were just on the second and third floors. I heard a rumor that there are now some ground floor pool view rooms. Can anyone verify that? Touring Plans still shows that pool view rooms are second and third floor only.

I would prefer a ground floor room but don't want to waste a room request if ground floor pool view rooms don't exist.

Yes, you can easily drive between the two resorts on internal roads without going out of the security gates.

It's not a rumour, there are now six ground floor Pool View rooms in FQ building 2. The classification was changed when they added the new kids splash play area, which opened up some of the hedges which would otherwise obscure the view of the pool area.

So we are at POFQ right now for our second trip to Disney... originally we had booked the All Stars (where we stayed the first time) but changed resorts as a splurge since we're celebrating my college graduation. That being said...

I wish we would have stayed at the All Stars. There is nothing special about this resort to justify the extra $800ish USD (and since we're Canadian and the dollar sucks it's closer to $1200 extra). And there have been already a handful of times we have said "all stars did this better"

1) The food court is not good. We struggle EVERY time we're here for a meal to find something and when we do eat it, it is NOT good. We had that breakfast croisssant the first morning and it was so soggy and kind of made me feel queasy the rest of the morning. Fiancé said the same thing.

2) Lazy house keeping. Yeah, sure our bed and towels are cleaned, but it's the small things like the Mickey shaped towels that get put on one bed and never get redone (we messed it up by accident and it stayed unravelled for 2 days on the bed until I finally got fed up and threw the towels in a pile to be cleaned up). I just remember last time we came we looked forward to what towel shape they'd leave that day but instead we have a pile of unravelled towels that never got picked up. Again, not necessary but come on it's literally the first thing you see in the doorway. To me it screams lazy. And there was garbage on the floor in the bathroom which was kind of annoying to see

3) Bus lines in the morning are not fun. There's no designated lines for each park so people awkwardly hover and then mad dash to the front of the "line" even though people have been waiting for 20+ minutes. Also in the transportation category, this isn't necessarily because of the resort (or maybe it is idk) but our first night we decided to go to Disney springs and take the boat. One boat passed right by us. Another Picked us up, drove us to riverside and then the driver made us switch boats bc he wasn't going to springs. Yet when we got there he was already there waiting for other passengers! We could have saved 20 mins if he had let us go with him.

4) oh and not necessarily POFQ related but our luggage didn't come until 2am which was annoying

It seems so trivial to complain about this (and no I haven't complained becauase, whatever, they're not big issues just some thoughts I had) but we had a way better time at a value resort which to me is kind of sad. This was supposed to be a splurge vacation and I honestly don't get how people enjoy staying here. It's nothing special and not worth the extra $$$ in our opinion.

Sorry, rant over..

In regards to the housekeeping, you aren't guaranteed towel animals at any of the resorts. I have only been to Disney World 6 times and I have not once had a towel animal made. I have stayed at values, mods, and deluxes, and not one day did I receive any towel animals. Even during my 11 day wedding trip I never received a thing. I wouldn't call it lazy housekeeping if the only thing they didn't do was towel animals. Now seeing garbage on the floor in the bathroom is definitely not right.

In regards to the luggage, it can take up to I believe 3 or 4 hours after you arrive to the resort for your luggage to arrive depending on what time you got in so if you arrived in the evening, that would explain why you got your luggage around 2am.

I'm sorry you are having a bad time. I absolutely love it there which is why I'm staying there for the third time in a row this coming May and it's definitely worth the extra money to me. Unfortunately, it's not for everyone.

It's just not that there wasn't a decorated towel on the bed, but rather it stayed unraveled for days without being cleaned up. It essentially looked like dirty towels and never got cleaned up. Added with the garbage on the floor makes me think lazy housekeeping. I finally cleaned them up myself tonight

Our luggage finally came 6 hours after we got to the resort. So 7 and a bit after we landed. That's a long time when they advertise up to 3 hours in their guide. Again, had no issues last time so maybe it was a one time off. But whatever. I'm just at least glad it came by morning when we got up.

Again this is me just ranting. I wouldn't go and complain to the hotel about it because it's not much of an issue. Just seems to pale in comparison to a value resort despite the fact we paid a **** ton of more money to stay here in hopes of a more "magical" experience

Towel animals are no longer a thing generally, I gather. Originally, housekeepers were positively encouraged to make them (even trained on doing them) but so many guests started 'expecting' this little perk (having found out on the internet about what was meant to be magical little surprise that other guests had received) that Disney no longer encourages it, merely opting for a few towels rolled in a Mickey-ears shape when you arrive. If a housekeeper happens to have time they won't be penalised for creating them for guests of course, but that's very random now. If you want the towels removed after a bit, put them down for washing with the other towels.

Boats: During the day POR and POFQ share a boat service (before 5pm) but after then each resort has dedicated boats. All guests are expected to disembark at the terminus of the journey though, it is not a round-trip service. If you want to re-board at POR you should queue up again with the other already-waiting guests. So if travelling from POFQ to Disney Springs, do not board a Riverside boat as you will be required to get off there.

Buses: I would prefer separate queues for each destination too, but for some reason that not something that happens at the moderates (or deluxes I think?). There are two covered bus-stops though, with buses for two parks stopping at each, so it's not really a big issue.

Sorry you are having a less than "magical" vacation. We plan and wait for so long, when things don't go the way we hoped, it just is pretty darned frustrating! Any time we've had issues, though, once I brought them up with Guest Services, they have always been resolved with a very satisfying outcome. Hope the rest of your trip goes well.

Somewhere I read that if you want the towels removed, you are to leave them on the floor in the bathroom, or in the tub. Otherwise, they don't switch them out. They also don't change sheets every day, only every third or fourth day. I think that they started this a few years ago to be more earth friendly (less laundry detergents, etc). I don't change my towels or sheets at home every day, and really don't have a problem with using them for a couple of days while on vacation.

We always leave a nice daily tip for our mousekeepers, and there has never been any issue with cleaning our room. If there was something extra that needed doing, we leave a note or call, and it's always been done by the time we got back to the room.

The food is what I expect of a food court, some really good, (Beignets!!!) some not so good. We've never gone hungry, but then we usually don't eat at fast food restaurants that I would say are "great" anyway, and don't depend on the resort food courts for much except a quick bagel and fruit for breakfast, or maybe a salad for lunch (which was wonderful!) or a quick snack when we return from the park.

As to the buses - there are no specific lines. Some folks like to sit and watch the big boards for arrival of the bus to their destination. When it's on the way, they will queue up. Don't expect that if you arrive early and choose to sit, and others arrive after you and queue up in a line ahead of you, that you will be able to go to the front of the line. If you want to be in the front, stand near where the bus doors open. We usually are at the bus stop early, and stand. When our bus comes, we get closer to the curb. I have never seen anyone make a fuss about who got there earlier - most folks are very polite and we all get on the bus. There is usually a CM there to assist with queuing in the early morning. It's just not a big deal.

As far as the late arrival and luggage delivery - if we were coming in after late-afternoon, we would probably pick up our luggage ourselves at baggage claim, and bring it with us, rather than having it delivered. But that's just me. We always take an early morning flight, and by the time we have checked in, and spent most of the day in a park, when we return to our room in the evening, our luggage is there waiting for us. Love the Magic Express service, as well as the resort airline luggage check for the return trip.

Sorry you're not enjoying your stay.

We love the foodcourt, the size of the resort, the ambiance/atmosphere, and Scat Cats in the evening just to name a few things. Is there a reason you chose POFQ over the other moderates?
