Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

What's everyone's favorite lunch at Sassagoula Floatworks? I'm considering grabbing lunch there on arrival day next year before heading to a park, because I think my meal timing will work out better.

ps, summerlady, we have the same ticker, except your Cricket is a lot closer than mine! Enjoy your trip!

I liked the chicken quesadilla with rice and beans.

Thanks, I can't wait to get there! Our usual day of arrival lunch used to be the muffeletta with biegnets for dessert but now POFQ doesn't have the sandwich on the menu anymore. :( This trip our flight doesn't get in until 3:30, so by the time we get to POFQ and so on we don't have to think about missing our usual lunch, we're going to Boatwright's for dinner instead.

That's what I did on my arrival day this year, dinner at Boatwright's! I really enjoyed it.

DH is already thinking about the prime rib at Boatwright's. I love their pecan pie, get it to go and sit at a table outside at POFQ with coffee and pie. I wish I could live there!

Trying to figure out our room request - never stayed at POFQ before. Can you hear the boats from any of the buildings or is it pretty quiet? Thanks!

Very quiet. We've stayed in quite a few different buildings at POFQ including a river view in building six, and have never been disturbed by the boats at all. The only thing that's noisy are those darn turbo flushing toilets! But if you close the bathroom door before you go to bed, you'll be fine and won't hear anyone flushing.

We have been in building #1 and Building #7 with river views and never heard the boats. The rooms are pretty quiet. We tend to keep our bathroom door closed 99% of the time so we haven't even heard the "turbo toilets". :)

Just back from our weekend at PORFQ. This time sending in a fax really seemed to work and we got all of our room requests. Location was just perfect!

Evenings we would walk along the river to Riverside to do some pin trading over there. One night we got back to French Quarter about 7:45pm. They were still doing the marshmallows and had set up for the movies. We were walking on the path right beside that big grassy area where the movie is (on the opposite end of the movie screen) and we saw a snake on the walkway! At first I thought it was a stick, but it was a snake. I think we scared it, too. It froze in place, except for its head that was up looking at us! I stomped my foot and it slithered into the shrubs!

We have stayed at 1,5 and 6 river view and the boat noise was never an issue. The boats stop by midnight and don't start in the morning before 10am.

Sent my room request fax this morning, it's really really real, finally! I already did my requests when I booked, but I like to back it up with a fax. I asked for buildings 4 or 5, 1st floor, corner room. If I get them, I get them, if not that's ok too. I'll just be happy to be there.

Just booked here and all that was left was the Garden view rooms. Anyone have a suggestion on what I should request or just roll with what we are given??

There are Garden View rooms in all bldgs. Last time I requested "convenient to the main building" and had a good spot in bldg 2. Next trip, I'm just gonna roll with it.

I'd say look at a map and see if you have a preference, but the resort's so small, I don't think location is as big an issue as in the other mods.

Love POFQ, and got back on 8/27. We were in room 2244 and had to be moved because of bedbugs. So check the beds really good. Turn back all sheets and look with a flashlight. Also on check on headbord. The room that we moved to was fine. They had a pest controller to check it out.

We can't wait to get back to our favorite resort! However, the post above has me freaked out!

It freaked me out too. Unfortunately, bed bugs are getting more common and can happen anywhere. I'm sure all of the hotels on property have had them. I'm always relieved to hear how well Disney handled it though. Just do a thorough check of your room before you bring your bags in.

I've never had a bedbug issue (fingers crossed!), but I learned from the DIS about doing the flashlight check first thing and going to the front desk (not calling 'cause you get a call center) if there's a problem. I know they can happen anywhere, but given the amount of traffic through WDW resorts, they seem pretty rare, and from all accounts, Disney does a good job of handling those cases. (Now watch, next trip I will have them!)

Man, it is Sunday afternoon and I am sooooo ready for April hours and crowd calendar to come out!!!

We arrived at about 5 this afternoon on the ME after dropping off at Key West and Saratoga Springs. Room was ready, which I thought it would be with our late arrival. I didn't receive a text with a room number, rather I got an email requesting I go to the front desk. Don't know why, I had already done online check in, but it was ok, didn't take but two minutes. We're in room 5141, a great location for us and conveniently close to everything. I received all of my faxed requests: 1st floor, corner room, no connecting door, close to pool, main building and food court. Yippeeeee I am SO happy to be here! After we settled in a bit we walked up to POR and had a fantastic dinner at Boatwrights, DH had prime rib and I had the NY strip, we both had pecan pie for dessert. The corn bread and sweet tea are absolutely delicious. By the time we returned from dinner our bags had been delivered to our room. Rope drop at Epcot in the morning so we're ready to sleep after all the traveling and excitement today. No bedbugs, we checked carefully. o_O
