Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

What's up with the mug color selection? I read that they had actually switched off the RFID system at some of the Deluxe Resorts (Contemporary is one that comes to memory but I'm not certain). Are they ditching the system for the Rapid Fill or are they clearing out current stock for a change? Anyone heard anything?

I think you're a little confused. ;) RFID and RapidFill are basically the same thing - RapidFill is the name of the program and RFID is the technology that the program uses (specifically, there's an RFID chip on the bottom of the mug that allows it to be used with the system.) The only colors that the RapidFill mugs have ever come in are orange, green and purple, but apparently orange has either been discontinued or they're just out of that color for some reason. I haven't heard anything about the system being shut off at any of the resorts.

I have heard they shut the system off at some places, but I heard it once and never again since so I am not going to put much stock in it. I wonder why they didn't incorporate rapid fill into your magicband? It seems to me like it would be cheaper for them to do that

No snow for us here in the UK. Just rain, rain and more rain. Oh, and floods!! No floods in our area though, luckily.

161 days to POFQ!!

I'd rather be there. We got another 13" (33 cm) today, another 4-5" (10-12 cm) tonight, more coming this weekend.

Total snow so far in the NYC area is 53" (135 cm). Too much if you ask me.

I WANT TO GO TO DW!

Checked in today, got a great room in bldg 4. In my fax I just asked for connecting rooms and mentioned that bldg 4 would be nice.

DME dropped off in this order, OKW, SSR, POFQ, POR. 4 passengers at OKW, 2 at SSR and almost everybody else at POFQ. From the time we checked in at DME until we arrived at POFQ was exactly 1hour.

Creamer at the food court is the little cups of Coffee Mate.

A 6 pack of Coors Light at Jackson Sq is $15.98.

Green and purple are the only mug colors.

for about the smae price (or less) you can get an 18 pack of beer (I bought Miller Lite) at the hess gas station across the street from DTD. yes, they let you bring it on the bus and on the boat. (.. you just can't crack on open, or pass them around.. then everyone, not just the brazilian tour groups, would be chanting!:lmao:)

No, I am aware that RFID/Rapid Fill are one and the same - I think I was trying not to repeat the same word twice in one sentence, lol. I actually read about it being deactivated somewhere - I don't recall where, but it was one of my favorite and what I deem to be reputable sites, so possibly the likes of touringplans, or Disney Tourist Blog (?) I read it once only and never saw anything about it again. That was a couple of weeks back. I may however have been confused about the color selection though as I had thought there were 4 colors, but perhaps I was mistaken. Anyway, the reason I asked my very badly phrased question was that I wondered if the lack of choice of mugs was linked to a change in the chipped mug system.

Ah well, I've confused everyone now, including myself and we still have no answers :lmao:

It is possible for them to turn off the system if it isn't working properly (check out this video from the company that created the system), but I haven't heard anything about any resort deactivating it indefinitely.

Just booked my first stay at Port Orleans! I'll be there for Tower of Terror 10 Miler weekend this fall :-)

Looking forward to it!

Is the boat still running back and forth to Downtown Disney right now? Was interested in riding over for some beignets but was curious about all the construction?

Just booked our first stay at Port Orleans FQ. Super excited. Hopefully I like the resort :goodvibes

We are booked for July 2-5 for our first stay at French Quarter. :yay:

We stayed at Riverside for spring break 2013 and enjoyed the trip...well most of it, but that's a story for another time.

I just got back yesterday from my first stay at PORFQ. We really loved the resort. I was in Building 6 . I had reserved a Garden View room but was upgraded to a river view room!! It was really nice. The room was bright and cheerful

I loved the theming of the resort with the little streets and the wrought iron on the buildings. Everything was really close to the lobby, food court and bus stop.

The huge Mardi Gras heads in the food court were fine. I had seen pictures of it and that was the reason I had not tried FQ in the past but it wasn't bad. There is also another side with other decorations

We went over to POR riverside three times. The ride in the golf cart was quick and easy. We walked once and it was a pleasant walk that was shorter than I thought it would be.

If I have the opportunity to do so I will stay here again.

I'm so glad you had a great time. Thanks for the concise trip report. We're already enjoying the Florida sunshine :beach: and look forward to arriving at POFQ Sunday. :mickeyjum

Now that we finally booked our flight for June, the trip seems more real. :goodvibes We arrive at MCO at 6:18pm. By the time we get to POFQ and check in do you think there is still time to head over to DTD for an Earl of Sandwich dinner? We are taking ME if that matters.

Also, I read somewhere that someone brought one price priority mail box to WDW and used it to mail some items home. Is there anywhere at POFQ to mail packages?

And last, is there some sort of store at the resort to pick up odds and ends? Almond milk, Advil, saline solution, etc? Or are we pretty much cut off from civilization? ;)

Yes to all of the above. You should be able to get to DTD for 9-9:30 or so for a meal. Packages can be sent from the hotel store or front desk. Don't know about almond milk at the shop though, it's only a hotel store so it carries common essentials but is not a full supermarket.

The marketplace dock is closing for construction but the pleasure island dock is staying open all through construction.
