Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I am staying at FQ at the end of April (SO EXCITED :cheer2:) and I was at the 60 day mark yesterday so I went to do my online check in. I had wanted to request a top floor but the only floor options were ground floor and 2nd floor. Anyone have any idea why the third floor wasn't an option?

It's not a big deal, but I was curious about it.

Thanks!

This is the main reason why it is recommended to call and add any room requests to your reservation. The options during online check in are predetermined and limited. Who knows why they choose the ones they do. I've seen some of the options for other resorts and feel :confused3.

In 21 days we will be at POFQ. So excited. This is our first time at this resort and already know we will love it.

Anybody know if the poor refurb or repair or whatever is going on is on track so that it'll be open on March 1?

I've just heard that they were hoping to re-open the POFQ pool on Saturday, but it's been pushed back a few days and will now open on Tuesday 4th March.

Oh, well, I guess we'll be riding the shuttle to Riverside's pool. Thanks.

Excited to jump in on this thread.

We took a heck of a route to get here, but we are booked at POFQ for Easter Week (I know, I know, its going to be crazy).

We originally booked ourselves at POR for a long weekend around Memorial Day (Fri-Tuesday). Then I got an itchy trigger finger and with the Spring Vacation deal, upgraded us to Poly (had never stayed at either, ftr).

Unfortunately, this past Monday, my wife (teacher) got word that because of all the snow we've had here in the Northeast, and since the Friday before and Tuesday after Memorial Day had been "taken away" as vacation days, she was going to have to apply for vacation days to take those days off, and her request was denied (despite her vetting this exact scenario at the beginning of the winter before we booked - we never try to do anything during the school year for this exact reason, but we didn't want to go back again in August like we usually do with the heat!!).

Scrambling, since we had already disclosed to the kids (son, 7 and daughter, 1 - ok, so we didn't really "disclose" to her haha) the trip was happening, but wanting to avoid that summer heat, we decided to brave the Easter Week despite everyone telling us not to. Unfortunately, that meant huge price increases on flights, no discounts and room rack rates. Our vacation more than doubled in price!!!

Since % discounts were no longer available, I decided to check on POFQ (previously not a consideration as excluded from the spring vacation plan, but always an intriguing option because of the size and that being a huge concern to us, especially now with the prospect of the crowds we'll be dealing with all week) and lo and behold, garden views were still available!! We booked, and our Disney Package was suddenly now lower than the previous bookings' cost WITH AN EXTRA NIGHT. And, lucky us, I held off on changing the flights (SWA) for the moment because of the exorbitant extra costs, and the costs went down yesterday! Not quite down to our old level, but the end story is, our total cost, with an extra day and night, is now not much different after all.

I've been in crazy planning mode all week now since our vacation moved up about 6 weeks - had ADRs previously, rebooked some (not all). I suddenly found myself IN our FP+ window where we previously weren't (but it appears those don't sell out the way I expected them to, like ADRs) and its been touring plans and easy WDW research nonstep to figure out how we'll beat the expected 9 level crowds.

But all in all, excited to try a new resort. Any Port Orleans' fun we should be on the lookout for!?

This May would not have been a great time to stay at the Poly because of all the construction going on there so I think you ended up with a perfectly fine new vacation plan! If my memory serves me correctly, Captain Cook's the wonderful CS at the Poly, will be closed by the time you would have been there. I'm not sure about Kona Cafe and 'Ohana. We were over there the beginning of this week and got a couple of photos of the waterfalls in the lobby while it is still there. The CM who checked us in at POFQ told me that they were just told that would be taken out with the renovation of the Great Ceremonial House.

We were only at POFQ Sunday through Wednesday but found all the cast members to be very friendly, our room was spotless (I had asked for special cleaning due to my allergies) and we had very good fortune with the buses. Most times we walked right on a bus that had just pulled up. We only had one wait of 8 - 10 minutes.

It all looks pretty-much complete doesn't it?

Andre

Yes it does. I never checked during the working day but did not notice any sign at all of current work being done - just the barricades to the area and the shuttle service stop signs to the POR pool. I'm guessing maybe they had completed the painting but wanted to give it a certain number of days to cure before being used.

If we go to Cape May Cafe for dinner, how do we get back to POFQ?

Do we have to walk all the way back to Epcot's front entrance to get a Disney bus back to POFQ?

We will be touring Epcot that day, and we don't have a car. We will be using Disney Transport.

TIA.

Yes, you will need to go back to Epcot and take the bus back to POFQ. Buses don't run from resort to resort, only from a park to a resort.

Another option would be to take a bus to DTD and then take the boat to POFQ, although it would be quicker to walk back through Epcot unless you want to spend time at DTD. (I know that a lot of people don't like going through DTD to get from one resort to another, but I use it as an opportunity to spend some time there.)

One more option, depending on park hours, would be to catch the boat from BC/YC to DHS then take the bus from DHS back to POFQ.

Thanks for the replies, they are very helpful.

If we take this boat route, how long does it take for the boat to arrive DHS? Are the boats frequent?

If you don't want to waste all night with Disney Transport you could take a taxi from Beach Club back to POFQ.

I would take a cab back, it would be no more than U$8.

I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong here...

The entire boat route from DHS to Epcot (or from Epcot to DHS) takes about 25-30 minutes. YC/BC is the "middle" stop, so I would guess about 15 minutes for the ride? You will stop at the Swan/Dolphin dock on the way from YC/BC to DHS. I've stayed at BC a couple of times, and gone back and forth between DHS and Epcot more than once on my POFQ trips, and have never had a long wait for a boat, but I've never timed the wait.

One thing: the DHS boat dock and DHS bus stops are about as far apart as they could be. But it still has to be shorter than walking all the way through Epcot.

We just did the boat from BWI to DHS to the bus to POFQ this past Sunday after eating dinner at the Flying Fish Cafe. It is just a minute or two from BWI to YC/BC and another few minutes from there to Swan & Dolphin. Finally, it is 15 - 17 minutes to DHS. We've done this many times. The boats TO DHS stop running about 30 minutes prior to that park's closing time so it works if your dinner is early enough or if DHS has extended hours the day you need it.
