Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Thanks  My original plan (when we were going to be landing at half 3 in the afternoon) was to get the boat straight to DTD (I love doing something Disney the first day we arrive when staying on site). I wanted to get Mickey/Minnie ears for me and the kids (still working on DH!), get my drawstring backpack with 2014 on, and get my Photopass+ sorted. Will buy Memory Maker online instead now, and hope they have ears and bags at the POFQ shop. Main priority is to get a good night's sleep and be up early for rope drop at MK

Getting so excited and we still have 144 days to go!

They do have ears and hats at the POFQ shop. My DD has bought several in there over the years. You will also get bags there.

You know, if you are up to a 5-10 minute boat ride instead of the DTD one which is obviously going to eat a bigger chunk of your time, you could always take the boat to POR. They have a bigger shop so there is a larger range of goods, although from your list above, I think you would get that all at POFQ. Also, don't forget the movies on the grass in the evenings. Even if you just went for half an hour, it might get the kids nice and sleepy in the warm air :)

Thanks for the tips! I shall bear those in mind :-)

Changed my dates so we can go to Food and Wine, we're now checking in on 11/09, which is also my mom's birthday. I'll have some balloons delivered to the room while we're at Flying Fish for her birthday dinner.

We'll be in Orlando already so no ME for us, I was upset about it in the beginning but since they changed the onboard video, I'm feeling better about missing it.

What have they changed the onboard video to? This is the first I've heard of it. We didn't get the ME back to the airport last time .... we were the only ones to be picked up from POFQ and the driver forgot about us :rotfl:

It's been no more than a couple of months since they changed it. It's now basically an ad for FP+/MDE with some DVC thrown in the middle.

Oh, I'd be SO mad it they forgot about us! I always confirm things two or three times beforehand and make a point of getting an earlier than necessary ME back to the airport.

Does anyone know if they are enforcing pool closure times? I read about this awhile back.
Thanks

Oh we were ready and waiting nice and early. I had queried what I thought to be a rather late pick up time and they assured me it would be fine. We do this every year so I immediately wondered and called to check. We waited and waited and then I realized I had my shorts on and we were flying home to much colder weather so I did a dive into the luggage and ran to change, worried I'd miss the ME but got back and no sign of it. Eventually I went to speak to Bell Services who called them and it turned out they had missed our resort for some reason. The guy was great. I get good travel insurance so I was pretty laid back about it and he mentioned he was a little surprised that I was so calm because all I needed was a letter confirming it was no fault of our own. :rotfl: He called a taxi for us and Disney paid for it and when we got to the airport, although i knew check in had closed, there was someone waiting for us. Bell Services had taken our details and actually called the airline/airport (not sure who what or how they arranged this). We were whisked through all with an escort lol and made our flight.

I don't sweat about going home a day late. I get more worked up at the prospect of losing a day of my vacation :p

That's sad about the ME video It's the official launch of our vacation mood once we arrive.

The pool re-opened yesterday! There was a chain across the entrance last night stating that it will be open again at 9 this morning but the hot tub was still occupied at midnight and some people were in it at 7 this morning. Headed there myself in a minute to attempt to recover from our 14+ hours at the MK yesterday.

Great, thanks for that update. I'm glad they didn't install gates to enforce the opening hours, as there was some talk that they would be doing at some stage. And even better news that they don't seem to mind people in the hot tub early in the morning or after midnight, that'll make a lot of people very happy!

It'd be very interested to know if you see anything different, and what they do after 11pm once the lifeguards go off duty, do they clear and chain off the main pool area?

Andre

I can't tell you how glad I am to read this about the hot tub!! Early morning followed by beignets at 7.00 or to relax a bad back after a day at the parks.

Does anyone know if they have the allergy free treats from Babycakes NYC bakery for sale in the food court at French Quarter? I just read that the Downtown Disney location is closing in March:(

They do not have babycakes at POR or PO-FQ just the enjoy life Choc chip cookies which I can't have anyway. They both had Oreos which work for me if you aren't gluten free.

Also, in what appears to be a massively short-sighted and very disappointing move, as from 2 March 2014 Disney has seen fit to permanently close the Port Orleans Riverside Levee boat rental facility. Very Bad Show, Disney - you are meant to be all about "plussing" your parks and resorts, not "minussing" them. If you wish to make your views known, ask for an explanation, or request that this decision be reversed, please contact wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com.

Oh no, that's really not good! :( The marina just won't look the same without the boats, I wonder why they did this, do you think that not many guests hire them out? :confused3

Just returned yesterday from a week's stay! Received some major pixie dust with an upgrade from standard view to river view, we were in building 2 right in front of the boat dock! We had an awesome time!!

Maybe you or someone else can answer this for me. Do you hear the boat horn from inside rooms that are close to the dock? The horn seems very loud and some of the rooms are quite close. In 3 stays at POFQ, I have never been near the dock.

We've been in Buildings 5 and 6 on the water and while we hear the boat horns, it is just background noise, not at all disturbing. I did read once that people in Building 1 complained about the boat horns because they seemed to echo there, so if that is a concern, then you might want to avoid Bulding 1.
