Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I am currently booked at Wilderness Lodge for this Jan 2016. I am really contemplating changing to French quarter. Can anyone who has stayed at both help me with my decision. Thank you so much!!

Just booked 6 nts in November, Garden View. Which bldg/rooms should I rqst? Would like to be close to main bldg and/or close to River. Really debated on booking River View but figured we'll be out most of the day and since it gets dark earlier, would save the $$ for something else. Don't care about pool since it will be too cold to swim when we get back from parks.

What are your suggestions?

thanks,
JoAnn

We had a corner room in building 6. We felt like we were pretty close to everything.

Not sure what you are looking for, but I can honestly say that given the choice between the two I would opt for Wilderness Lodge, hands down.

Now, if you are looking at the money difference and are giving things up to stay at WL, then I would not hesitate to go POFQ and spend the savings elsewhere, including a longer stay.

Yes, I really want to stay at wilderness lodge, but I may need to switch to POFQ due to $$$. I have stayed at WL before, but not POFQ. Is it nice, are things close together??

Yes, it is nice and everything is really close together!

Also, WL is scheduled for renovation/construction soon. If that would bother you, be sure to check the WL thread to see if your dates are during the construction window.

First question that comes to mind is how far a walk is it to the Riverside food court?

We've stayed at both, we are going back to WL this time, but I have a little part of me that will miss the FQ. I love love love POFQ. The small size, the pool, the music, the food court, the beignets, the boat to DTD, the doorman...so much I will miss...

But the WL is amazing too. The boat to MK, the theming, the pool, the whispering canyon cafe. It's just beautiful.
But they are about to start a long renovation there. It will be in full swing in January. Adding DVC which will be closing the beach...there is a whole thread in the expansion.

I think knowing about the construction, I'd go with POFQ

Our family loves POFQ, everything is close and even the "furthest" building (which I have stayed in) is still close. Last year we stayed at YC and even with SAB, my kids (12 & 17) said they missed POFQ and have no problem staying there. Like I stated I wouldn't give anything up to stay at WL over POFQ.

Trying to decide between POFQ or an All Star. We are from New Orleans so the theming isn't a huge deal, but I'm thinking about space. Opinions?

My only experience in a Value Resort was last year. We stayed 1 night at POP to start off our vacation. To be honest, we found it to be small, we were 2 adults, 11 year old and 16 year old, and it was tight. The double beds didn't work for us, the single sink was an issue, and the overall size left us unimpressed.

Since you are trying to compare a moderate resort to value resorts this might help you: http://www.disneytouristblog.com/value-moderate-resort-comparison-disney-world/

We have stayed in all the value ones and they were ok. Nothing amazingly special with them. Our group is very excited to try our first moderate resort this spring.

There is definitely more room in the moderates. There are four of us (myself, DH, DD 20 and DD 16) -- even an extra few square feet makes a huge difference! Plus queen size beds are much better for us than double beds. When we do quick one or two night trips for the MNSSHP or MVMCP we stay at one of the values, but for anything longer than a couple of days we definitely prefer having a bit more space.

As PP mentioned, about 10 minutes walk to PORS food court. We are huge POFQ fans - our absolute favourite resort, but we prefer the food court offerings at PORS. The build your own pasta and burgers are excellent! If you have refillable mugs, remember to bring them with you:-) We do this walk often and it's really beautiful / serene / relaxing. Hope you enjoy the FQ as much as we do!

Has anyone heard what the POFQ movie night schedule will be for August yet? I think it usually comes out around this time (a couple of weeks early). Thanks!!!
