Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Welp, yeah, they fixed it. Garden is now showing higher than Standard - but River View is still showing less than King or Pool (looking at mid-April). Does anyone know - will Disney contact me and say "oh, your room reservation is more than we told you," or will they just adjust it? Doesn't matter to me, I want POFQ Garden View either way, I'm just curious as to how they handle these things.

I'm seriously thinking of not doing Memory Maker next year. Barring any new arrivals, I think I've met all the regular characters I want to meet, and the CMs have always been great about taking pics with my phone.

I am not sure what time exactly we will get there (DH is military and he is supposed to get out at noon which would get us there by 3ish but you never really know with the military..) but I will most certainly take pictures for you if I get there in time!

Thanks, anything you can do would be appreciated. Many of the Lunchtime menu items are the same as in the evening, but they add Po'Boys and also remove some other items (I don't know why!) so I'd just like to confirm the current choices and prices if possible to complete the update for the page. Just a simple phone picture of each menu screen would be perfect (they each scroll round through several images, so it may need 2 or 3 shots of each of the five TVs, but it's really quick to do if you're there anyway).

Maybe if you don't get a chance, perhaps @dischic89 who is also planning to spend some time relaxing around the resort might be able to help?

If you've booked it, they should honour the booked price.

The River/Pool/King price variations are pretty much supply&demand driven apparently, and we should expect to see more fluctuations like that happening (for example Pool View is very much in demand at FQ because of the guarantee of a central location). There is no longer and obvious increment structure to follow, other than Standard should really be the cheapest of course.

Andre

Bu**er, going to have to re-trawl all the prices for my tables and charts now! ;) At least it's all spreadsheet based once I've got the new numbers.

Perhaps there is an error in the Seasonal Calendar system on the Disney booking website? It's strange though, as I'd have thought they both would have used the same underlying database (it's a helluva lot of extra work to maintain separate lists!) but obviously not.

Can I assume that anyone who checked actual daily quotes when the rates first came out saw the Standard:$202 / Garden:$198 prices on the quote page? Otherwise the calendar could have been wrong from day one. (And with 366 days x 15 categories to check, going through it by searching for 5,490 day-by-day quotes just isn't an option!!!)

Andre

Yes, when the information for the 2016 rates were released (at least for October), those were the rates indicated when you requested a quote through the booking engine on the WDW website. Maybe Disney was following the comments about this discrepancy on the disboards and made the change. Still, only a $5 difference between the two categories. The rates for Riverside still don't make sense. A river view room is more expensive than royal rooms and three categories of the royal rooms are priced the same. Maybe they'll get around to correcting these rates eventually.

They actually can change your reservation to the adjusted rates.

There is a section on your reservations which says:

Disney reserves the right to cancel or modify a room reservation (including after the room reservation has been confirmed) if the room reservation includes or resulted from a mistake or error of any kind, including but not limited to, a mistake or error in the rate, resort or room type, or where it appears that a guest has engaged in fraudulent or misleading activity in making the room reservation.

This statement is a result of a rate error which occurred several years ago with the garden suites at the Boardwalk. There was a error on the website where you could book one of these suites at 50% to 60% off. This information circulated throughout the Disney fan community and the suites were booked quickly! When Disney discovered the error, people were called and told the rates would not be honored and they could either make an additional deposit on the reservation to cover the rate change or cancel the reservation. As you can imagine, there were quite a few discussions on this board.

Maybe Disney was following the comments about this discrepancy on the disboards and made the change.

More likely when I raised the issue with the Port Orleans Room Inventory Manager, but yes I think they didn't notice what had happened until it was pointed out.

So they have now changed the rates that the booking search engine returns, but not yet the Season Calendar pages.

As I said earlier, the other oddities (such as the POR rates) seem to be intentional and are based on supply and demand.

I will be at POFQ late Sept this year, I can't wait! The grounds look amazing!

So we cheated on POFQ this year and stayed at CBR. It was great trip, rooms were nice, we were *close* to the pool and main house. Bus service was acceptable.

However, for me it re-enforced my preference for POFQ. The size, the theme, for me POFQ is just better in all regards. One bus stop?! Come on! Who can beat that? The pool at CBR and the murphy bed in the room were the only things I may give an edge on, but that would be it.

I wasn't able to make it in time to get the lunch menus. I'm sorry! The navy kept my husband 2 hours late at work.

We did receive a pixie dust upgrade from standard to a river view king though! But we check out this am to move over to shades of green and pick up our friends.

No worries, thanks for letting me know. Glad you got a nice room though, and I hope you had a good time during your brief stopover at Port Orleans.

Sadly I've had to move from POFQ for Wine & Dine. Flights are significantly less (as in at least $150) if I stay over Sunday night, and there is no room type at POFQ that has availability Nov 6-9 - I'd have to end up changing rooms for one night one way or the other, and I don't want to deal with that. Maybe one day I'll get to POFQ, but it feels fated for me never to make it.

For now I've moved to Pop.

Our August trip is paid off, online check in is done, and our fax is written... just waiting for Aug 19th to send.

Doing a happy dance!

Sorry, I keep forgetting to repost newsy stuff here! By the time I've put it on my own news pages, and then linked to it from Facebook, Twitter, RSS and sometimes Google+ and Instagram, I've forgotten all about the poor old DIS.

Anyway, for those who don't follow any of the aforementioned links...
Beginning in early October 2015, work will commence on removing the old children's splash pool at Doubloon Lagoon in order to install a new "Interactive Water Feature" play area. I’m sure you've seen these popping up at other Disney resorts, and now it'll be French Quarter's turn - and I hear from someone who has seen the plans that it should be rather impressive. Don't worry though, the work shouldn't impact on the main swimming pool facilities. No word as to when the Riverside children's pool will get the same treatment, but presumably that will happen too at some stage.

Booked POFQ again for next September! Can't wait, an absolutely beautiful resort. We were considering CSR due to a lower price than POFQ, but we went with our hearts rather than our heads! :cloud9:

I did end up grabbing the lunch time menus. Should I upload here or send them to you?:-)

Any idea when the new splash pool will be done? I'll be at POFQ with a toddler in January 2016 and I'd love for her to get to play in it.

We have stayed at CBR before and liked it a lot. We have stayed at POR as well, but this is our first stay at POFQ and I am very excited. This is most likely our last stay for a while so I am really looking forward to it.

I'd have thought it would be done by then. Mind you, running around in a water-fountain play area in January might be a bit chilly!
