Resort Thread Disney's POP CENTURY Resort

Last May we arrived to Pop quite late at night (midnight?) and while we had done the online check in, we never received a notification that our room was ready so we went to the front desk. They ended up giving us a really great room. I have a feeling it was a preferred room, but not really sure. We were in the 60's building, facing hourglass lake, first/ground floor. We were on the side where we could look out our room and see the line for the Skyliner! It was an absolutely perfect spot.

- Were we given a preferred room without paying for it?
- I would love to book the same room (roughly) again (and would be willing to pay for it), but unsure how to request this. If I pay for a preferred room I don't want a pool view room or a room close to the food court. I only want a preferred room so it's in this location. Ground floor isn't so important, but facing hourglass lake is! Is there a way to request this?

Thanks!

You were in a standard room. Sounds like you were in building #4 in the 60’s section. So if you love that location, book a standard room and request building #4. :)

Check out the map in post #2 of this thread to see all the different room category locations.

The rooms that face the lake (as opposed to the pool) in the 60's section are standard rooms. They are a great secret -- so many people think they're a preferred location. Two of our sons and their families were in bldg. 4 facing the lake last year when we were there. They both had booked standard rooms and neither one of them had made any room location requests. One of them checked in on a Friday and was assigned that location. The other one arrived on Sunday and went to the front desk (even though they had done online check-in) to see if there were any rooms in that general area -- even if it wasn't the exact same building/section. He was assigned a room on the same wing, the floor below his brother. The loved the location -- so close to everything, especially the Skyliner.

Back in 2004, those rooms *were* considered preferred rooms (the entire building was). We had booked 2 standard rooms at Pop for our trip that year. We had requested connecting rooms and that was a priority for us -- it didn't really matter where we were located in the resort, just that we had connecting rooms (5 kids). When we checked in at the front desk, the CM said, "Oh, it looks like you've gotten a free upgrade to a preferred building!" He confirmed that we had connecting rooms and we headed to the rooms. It was the perfect location (bldg 4, 3rd floor, first 2 rooms as you left the elevator lobby, and facing the lake). We were away from the pool so the area was quiet, but we were only steps away from the pool and main building/bus stops. And we could see fireworks from our room every night (now the trees are too tall to have that view).

To try and get a room in this area again, you can book a standard room and then add a note to your reservation requesting a room in Bldg 4 or 5 facing the lake. You can also send a handwritten note to the Room Assignor at Pop Century (address is in the first post of this thread) make the request. And one last option is if you have a subscription to Touring Plans, you can use their room request service. The most important thing if you use more than one of these options is to make sure that your requests are exactly the same with each method.

As @Disneylover99 said, you were placed in a standard room. I would recommend calling to Request Building 4. I would make that your only request. Just a heads up that a lot of people request that location so you may be placed elsewhere. We are in that location now but it’s the first time in 4 requests that we got it.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but what is the best building for fast access to the Skyliner? The 60's one? i hope so because I requested it.

Another minor addition I found but a great update is they now have a fan blowing towards the outdoor soda station at Petals. Last year this was bee central as they loved the sticky sweetness of the soda machine but this year, not a bee in sight! It’s the little things….

Speaking of fans, this isn’t Pop related but we often get asked, just how hot is it in FL in the summer?? We call it melt-your-face-off hot but, I think these fans they’ve installed in various places will help to convey how hard Disney is working to keep their guests cool outside!!

While it doesn’t look this way in the pics, these fans were both running and do a good gob of pushing a lot of air. Many people waiting for the Villisns show were sitting in front of the fans while waiting to enter the theatre.
The fans like this near the Villains show were really helpful in keeping people cooler. What I hated were the little kids right up next to them testing whether paper pushed through the cracks would be mangled. I was worried about mangled fingers! I'm sure they were designed to combat stupidity and unattentive parents, but Jeeze Louise!!!!

For those who have tried the new coffee place at Pop, how do you like it?
I stayed at Pop 8/22 through 8/28; home now. I do not drink coffee, but my traveling companions did. They liked the coffee place at Pop, but found the Latte to be very sweet. Personally, I liked it when it switched to the ice cream place at night. :earsgirl:

I am back from a wonderful stay at Pop from 8/22 through 8/28. I was traveling with my sister and her kids (niece 20; nephew 22). I submitted a snail mail request, a request through Touring Plans, and also did on-line check in. My request was 2 connecting rooms in Building 6 (my favorite building); I suggested a couple of rooms that were 2Q rooms on the ground floor. We were assigned 6322 and 6323, which is a K room connected to a 2Q room. Our rooms were very near the wing that has all of the construction going on and it did not impact our stay at all. It's noticeable because there are workers doing their jobs and sometimes pathways and/or elevators would be blocked, but signage was clear and progress is being made. All of the workers/contractors we encountered were very gracious and did what they could to be out of our way.

Had I checked in first, I'd have requested being moved to a 2 Q - 2Q set up or even two 2Q rooms that weren't connecting but near one another. My flight from DTW was delayed for 5 hours, so my sister arrived first with her daughter and they took the rooms. By the time I did my research on the plane that showed me the bed situation and I texted my sister and niece, they said everything was fine and that they'd share a Q, nephew would be in the other Q, and I'd have a K room to myself. It actually worked out really well -- especially for me! I'm a real neat freak, so everything was very organized in my room, we always had a table, and we had two bathrooms to use as needed. My sister and her kids, while not slobs, aren't as tidy as I am, so it was good for many practical reasons.

Even being close to the Skyliner, I put in over 30,000 steps every day I was there. I had a one day "continuing" reservation as I added on a day closer to our arrival day. I did not have to change rooms. Hurrah! I did ask about that a couple of days into our stay and was told it was noted on my reservation and the plan was that I'd be able to stay in that room. I was told to double check the day before my new reservation started. I actually got a phone call saying everything was set and I didn't have to move.

After my sister and the kids checked out and left, I was able to go to Blizzard Beach by myself on my last day and I had a blast. We weren't able to use the Water Park "gift" with the original reservation because I arrived later than planned and my sister and niece opted for naps on the arrival day.

We had a late dinner at Everything Pop one night. I did a mobile order while on the Skyliner. I should have clicked "we are here, prepare my food" while I was still on the Skyliner. We waited a good 25 minutes for our food and then one of the orders was wrong. They fixed it quickly, but that was the only time we did a meal there. Other times it was just snacks and coffee. The food was good, it was just the long wait that disappointed us.

I'll be back for sure!
