Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

A quick question to see if anyone knows....In looking at the new room design, my family doesn't care for the new design. I haven't been able to find the specific details of the renovation map (i.e.. what rooms are being done in what buildings). Does anyone know how many rooms in each bldg are being renovated and if you can request to NOT have one of the new rooms.

Did we get photos or a layout of the new rooms that I missed?

We haven't stayed in a King or Accessible Room, but we have stayed in both building 10 (70s) and building 5 (60s). They are both about equally close to the food court, but it depends on what part of the building you are in. The biggest complaint that I have about building 10 is that you have to walk past the smoking area to get there.
I like the 50's building facing the pool. I used a scooter before, everything is accessible, no problem fitting it into the room, even though it's small. What kind of scooter do you have that fits into a car?

Sorry, but I don't like the new rooms. That murphy bed has to go up to be able to use the table. It just seems like more work to me. And I don't care for the color scheme. I don't mean to sound so negative but I loved the old rooms. :( Maybe they will seem better in person, I hope.

Nothing wrong with you not liking the new rooms, it seems like a slight majority of people who are commenting on them feel the same way. To me the most valid argument people have about the how the new design, and won't known until someone actually stays in one, is that the table can only be used with the Murphy bed up. I hoped/wished that they do something like a 2/3 new design 1/3 handicap king/double beds layout. I think that would have solved many of the issues people are having.

My question is what is it about the old rooms that some people love so much? We have never stayed at the POP before, and maybe I'm missing something, but from the photos I've seen the rooms layout look like nothing more than a Motel 6 room with Disney theming. To me, at least based on appearance, the new design really take the quality of the room up a level or two.

What color scheme? :rotfl:

Just curious because I haven't been following too closely - Do we know for sure that the layout and color scheme haven't changed from the pictures posted a year ago on page 206 and 208?

No. Photos are from a TEST room so of course they could make changes.

Currently (this week) no room was fully installed with furniture, soft goods etc. There were some headboards in per photos and I saw wall sconces. The floors were covered I saw, photo on another source shows the "wood" look. The walls I saw and in other photo are "white" family. No bath fixtures were showing in nor was the sliding door.

The construction "manager" I spoke with said his only plan other than disabled rooms is for all rooms to have one bed and one murphy bed. Again, I don't think he even said queen so for all we know it will be a full bed. I would have to think we should have some finished rooms photos by the end of the month showing up online. It does mean someone going around their gates/ropes and signs during working hours .... the windows were all covered.

I thought I read somewhere that the new bathrooms were shower only (no tub). I know that there are no finished rooms, but can anyone at Pop now tell if this is the case from the construction evidence?

We won't know for sure until someone actually gets in a room, but Day 5 of the construction check list has the entry "Load tub/shower pan"; Day 12 has the entry "Check dimensions for tub/shower door installation"; and Day 15 has the entry "Install shower/tub glass sliding door and wall". So it sounds like at least some of the rooms will have a tub. If I had to guess, I'd say the standard (2 bed) rooms will have a tub/shower combo and the king rooms will just have a shower (or possibly only the HA king rooms). I can't imagine that they'd eliminate bathtubs across the board -- that would be a problem for many families with young children.

If the headboard was up in one room that is the color the walls are going to be. They wouldn't mount the headboard before painting. I could be wrong but...

I hope not. I Love my Baths and can not do any Disney Trip without my bath.

So my room request should be sent in a couple days. I was thinking of trying to see if a renovated room would be open but I do not want the walk to the buses. Thoughts?

Reports are no Refurbed rooms will be in inventory until June.

Thanks for the info. I know it's a slim chance, but I'm hoping they ditch the idea of having the table attached to the pull-down bed. That table is a permanent spot for my laptop and it doesn't move throughout our whole 2 week stays.

Going to be at POP, Oct 4-10 with DD and her friend...both 13.....who's up for a drink at Petals?

Need a little input here...

Hi, All!

First post...long time forum reader. We took our first family WDW trip last summer and stayed at POFQ. Needless to say, we are hooked. We are currently booked at the Wilderness lodge in early June for 10 days, 9 nights. Here is my dilemna... Been doing a bit more research and it looks like we could switch to Pop Century and potentially save about $1500 for the same amount of nights. We have me, my wife (sorry...I don't know all the Disney acronyms yet) our two sons (age 13 and 8).

With only one stay under our belt, really need some of you seasoned veterans to chime in and let me know what you think. Should we just stick with WL or switch over to Pop? It would give us a lot more $ to spend in the parks.

FYI, our plan is to spend most of the mornings and early afternoons in the parks, rest for a bit and then return in the evenings. We have the dining plan and all of our FP and ADR already done. :)

I appreciate your input!

Well Pop - CURRENTLY has 2 full sized beds in most rooms, so you would be going from 2 Queen to 2 Full - given your ressie at WL is a regular room. I am staying at POP in December, 3rd time there and love it but it is only me and the DH (disney husband) and i say currently because they are under going room renos right now but given you are traveling early June that wouldn't affect your stay as the newly reno rooms aren't being booked until sometime in June (none have been fully completed at this time)

Personally the savings of $1,500 would make me switch but the limited amount of time i spend in room and at hotel makes me go for the deal rather then the nicer hotel property.
