Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Second hand info. People that were in the other wings of the building being renovated could hear hamming and such when they returned for a mid afternoon break.
I prefer to stay away from the renos. For that reason, I won't be making any room requests for my summer trip til I have a better idea what buildings are being worked on.

Yeah...this is not just a primarily soft-goods refurb like CBR had a couple of years ago. This is actually installing furniture onto the walls - so it's a little more involved, and I can't help but think it will be more noisy. That said, Disney only says they will try to limit it to 9-5. If they stopped for every guest's "afternoon break" they would never get anything done.

CBR was more than a soft-goods. They also got all new furniture, new sliding doors added to bath area, new bath vanities & countertops ... and they even replaced bath tiles which can involve lots of noise to demo & remove.

But yes, there will be some hammering and banging.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Will probably book at Pop then once the August discount codes are out :)
I stayed at wilderness lodge during construction of new villas. Never heard them unless they were backing up while rebuilding the new pool. Even got a pardon our construction pin.

Yep and if you're following along, like we all are around here, you'll know what sections to avoid.

Yes. I will say I'm surprised by the number of people considering switching resorts due to the construction. I fully understand the refurbished rooms may not be for all and may cause some to switch but switching due to renos surprises me.

I'm just hoping people who are new to Pop will realize it's a beautiful big resort with many options of locations to stay.

Honestly I think it's all the conversation about the big construction happening at CSR and CBR that make folks think this will be in that scale. I will bet many have stayed at a hotel during a room refurbishment and didn't even know it but they are comparing those projects to this.

I'm not surprised. People often move when they hear about refurbs. I would hope whatever building/wing that they are working on will be closed.

I really hope we don't come across this problem, we survive off of midday naps, and DS who's on the spectrum will be bothered by the noises.

If the noise is going to be a problem (and I have no doubt there will be noise in the wings being worked on during the day), I'd use the Touring Plans Room Request fax service to specifically request a room in a building in a different area. Just keep in mind that you could have noisy neighbors anywhere. We like to take a mid-day break/nap (though our kids are all teens and older so it's not critical that they actually sleep -- in fact, it's more important for *me* to sleep, lol.) A few years ago we were in a LK suite at AoA. We were on the fourth floor and I think only one or two suites were occupied on that wing. However, I think the suite next to us was used by the CM's at the resort (we saw them coming and going in the afternoons). I don't know if it was some type of "break/hangout room" or what but all afternoon we'd hear the door slam shut and we could hear them talking and laughing in the room. They weren't being obnoxiously loud or anything -- just sounded like they were having fun and hanging out. But every 15 minutes or so, we'd hear that darn door slam.

And to add to that, put in notes about being on spectrum and a quiet room would be better.

Which is understandable since they are doing the renos between 10-6. Unfortunately there is no way to not hear the noise.

How long is the typical wait for a bus to Pop if you leave the park at closing? Back in the day my Dad would rent a car and we would drive back to the hotel (and skip the trams when possible) because it was faster. But this was a long time ago.

It varies. We were there this past week and it's spring break. We waited 1 hour to get back after Epcot closing with extra magic hours. We waited about 35 minutes at Hollywood studios at closing. Those were the only days we stayed until closing.

I will be staying at Pop for the first time in late June. I just got the email about the renovations though I've known for some time. I'm only there for 2 nights and connecting rooms is my first priority, so judging by PPs I'm guessing I shouldn't really be worried about any refurb noise bothering me? It clearly doesn't seem worth it to worry about where I end up if we won't be afternoon napping and will be switching resorts on day 3 right?

No, it doesn't sound like it would bother you. We love Pop, staying again in Sept and we aren't worried about the renovations. We also do not nap in the afternoon. I think you will be good. Enjoy your first stay at Pop, I'm sure you'll love it!

Thank you!! Wanted to stay here for a while, looking forward to it :yay:

Nope, if your not going to be at POP For a short period of time and not trying to take an afternoon nap it won't be a problem.

I got the same email last week and honestly it makes little nervious at first, but not anymore. Renovations should only be occurring in one wing (3 in a building) out of 10 building, so the chances of it interrupting our vacation is very unlikely.
