Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

I agree with Mome rath. There is always a risk of bed bugs anytime you travel. I make a habit of inspecting the rooms/beds before unpacking. I do this anytime I travel.

Hi, I am going to search through the thread. But 2 questions, is it worth it to get a preferred room. Also, are any rooms connected? Would it be possible to get 2 adjoining rooms? Has anyone stayed in a family suite at all stars music or aoa versus 2 rooms at the pop? We only have 4 people but would love to have 2 bathrooms!

In this families opinion it's not worth the extra $$ for preferred at any WDW resort.

Also, are any rooms connected?

Yes, there are rooms that connect.

Would it be possible to get 2 adjoining rooms?

FYI - In "Disneyspeak" adjoining rooms are near each other. Connecting rooms are right next to one another with an interior door connecting the 2. You may know this, but for others reading this I wanted to mention this.

You can request either connecting or adjoining but both of those are just that, requests. There is no way to book or guarantee either one.

Not at Pop but have stayed in 2 rooms at other resorts and the family suites at music. We much prefer the family suite as we are guaranteed to be in the same room and the 2 bathrooms are a life saver sometimes.

When we stayed at POP with our Daughter's family in 2014 and we had connecting rooms.
The convenience of not having to leave your room to see the others in your party is great, as is having two bathrooms. :-)

We've done connecting rooms at Pop (three times) and a suite at AoA (twice) and we much prefer the suite. The suite just feels so much more open and relaxing (despite what looks like "wild" interiors in the pictures) than a standard resort room. We like knowing we'll all be in one room but with the master suite my husband and I still have some privacy. I love the huge walk-in shower in the master bath. The kitchenette is handy for us as we always eat breakfast in the room and we drive to Disney so we bring some snacks and drinks for the room. One thing to keep in mind is that in 2 connecting rooms at Pop Century, you will have 4 beds but the suites only have 3.

If we were going back to Pop, we most likely would book preferred rooms (not pool view, though) just so we would be guaranteed rooms that are relatively close to the food court and bus stops. While there are a lot of standard rooms at Pop that are close to those things, on 2 of our 3 stays we were assigned rooms that were about as far away from those things as you could get. On one trip we just took the rooms because we didn't think it would be too bad (it was tolerable). The next trip when we were assigned rooms that were even further away than the last ones, I asked for a different location. Miraculously they had connecting rooms in a much better location...and they were clean and ready (the original rooms weren't cleaned yet).

We have only done the family suites as ASMu, but would choose that over two rooms for the reason noted above, the kitchenette. We also prefer to have breakfast in the room if possible, and the kitchenette makes this possible. Although we liked the Pop food court, we prefer not to eat breakfast at a food court as it is so much easier for everyone to grab breakfast as they are getting ready.

We just stayed at Pop in January, and our prior stay was at AofA in a LM room. In general I loved both resorts but find AofA to be less hectic, maybe because of the family suites there are less people there? Just my observation! Both very well themed, clean, fun, and love walking around the lake and bridge that separate the two.

Hi Everyone,
We just booked another trip and staying at POP for the first time and going in the summer for the first time. We'll be there July 12-17th and are in a standard pool room as that was the least expensive available. Is the 50's section a good area to request? The pool looks more fun than the computer pool and I love Lady and the Tramp. Also, is 1st floor not recommended? Our dd will be 13 and loves swimming. It would be so nice to be able to walk right out to the pool w/her. Thanks

I personally wouldn't spend the money on a preferred room at POP. The first time I booked at POP, I remember being worried about being placed a "far away" room after reading the boards. We ended getting a room in building 2 of the 50s section. The walk was probably 5 minutes to Classic Hall. None of our party found the walk to be strenuous and we included 2 young kids and my parents. Our second stay at POP we were placed in building 9 (80s) which again is not an ideal location and had no issues with the walk.

We have stayed by both the bowling pin pool and the computer pool. Both are nice and are definitely quieter than the hippy dippy pool. We found staying on the first floor is very convienent but there is a risk of it being noisier on the first floor due to more foot traffic. We didn't find this to be an issue, however, we travel off peak season.

Thanks for the info. We don't go to bed early so I'm thinking it will be okay. We'll be doing rope drop then back to swim/cool off between noon-4 most days then back to the parks until 10 or later. I probably will request ground floor and see what we get. Always go off season as well so it will be interesting!:)

We are considering POP for our 2017 trip but would be booking two rooms. We would love to get connecting but adjoining would be fine as there would be an adult in each room. This option is cheaper than AoA plus 2 rooms at POP would have beds that are more comfortable for adult/teen size family I think. Thoughts? We have also priced out DVC but two rooms or a suite is still the cheaper option.

As long as you're okay with the possibility that the 2 rooms won't be close to each other, having the 4 real beds is a huge plus to the 2 rooms. Disney can charge a premium for the Family Suites making them more than 2 standard rooms because it's the only way to guarantee your party will be all together.

I've stayed in a 50's ground floor building 3 room that is now considered "standard pool" (at the time it was just standard) and yes, for pool lovers it's really nice to be that close -- open the door and go.

And, I always request the 50's section; it's my favorite.

As long as everyone is comfortable in a double bed, then 2 rooms is probably fine for your family. The advantage to the suite is that there is a queen-size bed in the master bedroom (while the table bed and sofa bed are both doubles) and you would have the kitchenette. If double beds are acceptable for everyone and you don't need the microwave and coffee maker in the kitchenette, then you're probably good with 2 rooms as long as you are ok with the fact that while they *could* be connecting, they could also be in separate buildings.

Just returned from a great trip. Wanted to share a couple of tidbits.

Tidbit #1: I had booked a standard room and requested 60s/close to transportation. When we arrived to check in, we were told there are no standard rooms in the 60s (not that none were available but that none of the rooms in the 60s are considered standard rooms). We ended up in 50s building 3, lakeview, and it was great.

Tidbit #2: Because we found no cases of water at Pop, we decided to go to Target for some shopping. We used Uber. The concierge told us Disney doesn't have a set policy regarding Uber. It cost $10 each way. I asked our Uber driver if she ever had a problem with entry to a Disney property and she said no problem.

Tidbit #3: There's a magazine rack in the gift shop. I was happy to see this because sometimes you just want relax and flip through a magazine. The rack is just inside the exterior door, the one leading to the buses.

The resort never felt crowded or busy, even in the food court. We had an enjoyable stay.

Hmmmmm....I wonder if that was just misinformation on the part of the CM or if those rooms have once again been classified as a preferred location. I know that many years ago -- before there were several categories of "preferred" rooms -- those rooms were preferred rooms. We got a pixie dust upgrade to a 60's lake view room in 2004. Some time between that trip and our next stay at Pop, those rooms were "downgraded" to standard rooms and I believe remained that way ever since. However, I know a lot of people who book standard rooms request 60's lake view so maybe Disney has noticed and they've put them back in the preferred category. :confused3

I'm pretty sure it was just a misinformed CM.

Upon checkin two years ago, I was told I could not have a 60's lakeview because I had booked standard and only 80's and 90's were standard rooms. :confused3 I asked to speak to a manager who also confirmed that all of 60's was preferred and this information about standard being just 80's and 90's was correct. I opted to pay the difference so I could stay in the 60's. But I felt as though I had entered the twilight zone. :rotfl:

The next morning, I went down to the front desk to ask about this new policy, and they promptly refunded the difference I had paid to stay in the 60's because lakeview was standard. :)

I have successfully stayed in 60's standard rooms several times since then. :thumbsup2

I didn't get a perferred room my first visit and got stuck in the furtherst 90s building almost in the furthest room away; the walk was like 10 minutes to the food court / transportation and it really sucked at the end of a day. I say it's worth it for perferred room.
