Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

I just got back from my third trip to Pop Century. DH, DS (almost 3 years old) and I had one room, while my mom was in another room. We had linked the reservations together and were able to get connecting rooms. Mom had a king bedroom. We had booked a standard pool view, taking advantage of the spring discount offer. We had requested 50's and ground floor but ended up in 90's and third floor. We had been sent our room assignment via text message but still stopped at check-in to see if they could change our rooms. They weren't able to. Luckily, we weren't too far from the elevator so it wasn't too bad after a day of tour the parks. We sleep with a noise machine and it was enough to cover the noise from the pool.

We had last stayed at Pop in July 2013 and was not impressed with the dinner menu at the food court. It was a little bit better this time so we had 2 or 3 dinners there. We walked over to AoA one night as well for dinner and drove to CBR another night. Breakfast was good but did get crowded shortly after 7am. There were various high school aged groups staying at Pop, who you only really noticed at the food court, but we had no issues with them.

Mousekeeping was great. Two different days, we came back to towel animals in both rooms.

The new credit card operated laundry machines were easy to use. The sign hadn't changed yet but the dryer time is now 60 minutes. The machines even count down for you how much time is remaining.

I do agree that the food court can get really busy but the food is normally really good.
I soooo miss some of my old favorites

The mom's night out tv dinners.
They had a different special every night and they were super yummy.

They also used to had a philly steak wrap that was yummy:

and of course, the chicken alfredo---they still have this but they call it Chicken Parmesan:

Hoping to find some new favorites this year and don't forget to have your receipt stamped for your desert "create your own" sundae (definitely enough to share:

Can't wait for November!!! Got my ressie yesterday! FREE DINING November 18-25th! POP here we come!:jumping1:

I just changed my reservation over to Pop as I was able to get free dining. I have booked 2 preferred pool rooms and was just curious if anyone can explain the difference between a standard room and preferred? I do see on the map the locations of preferred but there seems to be many and I just didn't know if there was actually anything different about the room or is it just the location. Also, does anyone know if its possible to get a king room connected to a room with 2 doubles? TIA

About how many minutes is the walk from the back of the resort to the busses? Thanks!

10 minutes at a leisurely pace.

Preferred rooms are the closest to the main building, Classics Hall. With the Preferred Pool view rooms you're going to be in the 60's section, facing the Hippy Dippy Pool, in the section closest to Classics Hall. It is possible to get a king room connected to a room with 2 doubles, but it isnt guaranteed. Since youre already going to have a room in a prime location, I would make that the connecting rooms have a king and two doubles my only request.

For Free Dining plan purposes, I have a RO booked for August 27, then a package for August 28. Both the RO and the package is for Preferred Pool view room category. Do I have to do online checkin twice? I would assume yes. Also, anything I have to do to "link" the reservations? I know I'm not guaranteed the same room when I check out and back in on the 28th. Thanks.

Thanks! I will try to call and make that request - later when the phone volumes have died down, haha

From the top floor on the farthest room in the 60's buildings it would be about 5 min + elevator time.
From the top floor on the farthest room in the 50's building 2 it would be about 7-8 min + elevator time
From the top floor on the farthest room in the 70's 2 buildings it would be about 5-6 min + elevator time
From the top floor on the farthest room in the 80's/90's building 7 or 8 it would be about 8-9 min + elevator time. However, there is a cut through from these buildings thru the 90's parking lot that cuts 2-3 minutes off your walking time which can make it one of the closer area's to transportation.

Here is the POP resort map from the first page of this thread that can give you an visual:

How far in advance do I need to request a king bed? I am going Nov. 13-16. Thanks.

There are very few king beds at POP so remember it is just a request. You would need to call Disney and add that request to your ressie since it is not an option during on-line check in. The room assigner won't see your requests until 3-4 days before you get there so as long as you have the request on there by then you should be fine but I would say the sooner the better, once the phone lines settle down from the free dining promo calls.

Did you book preferred or preferred pool?
Preferred pool is highlighted light blue area right in front of the Hippy Dippy pool.
Preferred is highlighted yellow and it will be the closest to Classic Hall without being right by a pool.
The standard rooms are not highlighted.
All rooms are exactly alike except the location.
There is another map on the fist post that shows king bed locations.
Not every building has kings and there are not alot but there are some king rooms connected to a room with 2 double beds but very, very few and most (if not all) are handicap so they would get first priority since handicap accessible king rooms are a bookable category.

Here are both maps so you can see the layout:

Yes you do. We have a RO for 8/21 to 8/23. Then our FD package starts 8/23 to 9/6. So we will be checking in twice. They are pretty good about keeping you in the same room. a They have kept us in the same room the past few years.

We put in a request for a king bed last year and didnt end up getting it at check-in. I asked them if there was any way we could possibly get a king room, and that we were willing to wait and we would take whatever building they had. The more flexible you are the better chances of getting what you really want.

Exactly! If king bed is your most important request, make it your ONLY request. This way the room assigner can have a better chance of getting you one.
We have requested a king bed 6 of our 9 trips and gotten it 4 out of the 6. Once we had to move after 1 day in one of the rooms to get a king.
Definitely, the more flexible you are, the better chance you have.

I just looked at touring plans, they have a great portion on their website that shows every room category and the view of the room with all the info pertaining to each room (bed type, distance from transportion or food court, connection room info, etc).

There are only 8 Preferred pool king rooms. They are all connecting to a room with a double bed. They are also all handicap accessible rooms. They are all in building 5 (Mogli & Baloo).
Rooms:
5167/connecting to room 5166
5267/connecting to room 5266
5367/connecting to room 5366
5467/connecting to room 5466
5170/connecting to room 5171
5270/connecting to room 5271
5370/connecting to room 5371
5470/connecting to room 5471

Handicap accessible King is a bookable category so it is going to depend on how many are booked during your stay. If you are not assigned one, you can always ask and if one comes open during your stay, you would have to be willing to move.

Hope this helps.

I was able to book our trip yesterday for November with FD. My only room option when I made my reservations was preferred. Ironic, because I really would love a standard room. We had top floor, 70s section, lake view our last trip and it was perfect. We loved the lake view so much, I think I will eventually try to change to a standard room. When I try to change online I get an error and I don't want to botch the reservation, so for now I'll just celebrate the fact that we are going back to our happy place in 196 days.

I did see while browsing through the thread that I don't need to bring quarters for the laundry. My kids have decided to focus on trading pins this trip over pressed pennies, so that means no rolls of quarters this trip :)

If you're unable to change I would suggest maybe requesting the 60's section, top floor, and call to verbally request as close to memory lane as possible.. you might get lucky with somewhat of a lakeview!

I love hearing about everyone who loves POP!! We are staying here for the first time in September!!
You will love it! We are staying at All Star Sports for the first time this trip just for something different and it was a tad cheaper. But I told my husband, we will go visit Pop one time while we are there ;) Will miss it. But trying new, but next trip back to Pop!
