Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

I stay at the POP a lot and am concerned with the fact that the Skyliner will bring in so many new people that the POP will be hard to get a reservation.
I am also concerned that if they reduce the number of busses, those people who use a wheelchair or an ECV may be out of luck getting to the parks at reasonable time. Will the Skyliner even accommodate chairs and scooters????
Pop is already running at almost full capacity (has been since the renovations) so reservations cannot be any more difficult to get than they already are.

The Skyliner will accommodate both wheelchairs and ECVs so they will be able to get to the parks the same as others.

No need to be concerned about either of the things you mentioned.

Groovy, Thanks! :hippie:

Of course we won’t know for sure until the Skyliner’s up and running, but it sounds like they may be more accommodating to chairs, ECVs and strollers. It sounds like the operators can easily take cars on and off the main line, so it’s possible they could have a seperate lines for chair, ECV and stroller people who might slow the line up and keep everyone else going at a constant pace.

I was really hoping they would continue to offer seasonal mugs. A spring/Easter one would be so cool!

This is kind of what I'm hoping. I know Easter isn't until the end of April but still crossing my fingers
Thanks for all the responses and thanks @Haley R cause even if they aren't "spring" themed I can still get a good OLD white handled one :woohoo:

I'm surprised too. With the amount of buzz about them here on the DIS alone, I am sure they sold many more mugs than they normally would have. WDW usually doesn't back away from making more $$.

I agree! I'd bet that they'd have an uptick in mug sales with the different choices. Some people have many of the same old, same old, but would be more likely to purchase a different variety.

I just booked a last minute spring break trip. We decided to get 2 rooms at Pop instead of a Family Suite at All Star Music. Hopefully we made the right choice.

I have a few questions. If I have my own food (not purchased in the food court), am I able to use food court microwaves? Also, is there a place to get hot water for oatmeal cups in the food court? Just trying to plan ahead. Thank you in advance!

I'm so excited for our first stay at Pop!

Yes and yes. You may use Pop food court microwaves (and toasters) for your own food.

There are hot water taps for tea, etc that you can use for oatmeal, etc.

Enjoy Pop!! You made the right decision for sure! :D

There are many people with very negative thoughts about the Skyliner right now, so at least in the very beginning, I don't anticipate Disney raising the prices for Pop or AoA based on the Skyliner alone. Now, if the Skyliner is a big hit and more people start wanting rooms at Pop or AoA because of it and they wind up consistently turning people down who want rooms there, then it seems to me that Disney could very well view that as a good reason to raise the rates.

It's a time will tell situation for everything regarding the Skyliner. I, for one, am excited about it. But I admit to crossing my fingers that it won't make it more difficult to get a room at Pop in the future, because Pop is definitely our resort of choice right now. :)
Exactly my thoughts! Being a POP fan myself, I really don't want to stay anywhere else. We would definitely have to be spending more time figuring out how to plan a trip if all the rooms are being taken. :guilty:

Not that I am predicting a wholesale "run on Pop reservations" due to the Skyliner opening, but I am not sure your logic works here. If any resort, on Disney or otherwise, is running at almost full capacity (as you characterized Pop is) and some variable further increases demand for it (as this poster voiced concern over) then reservations, indeed, certainly would become harder to get.

In any event, I imagine the Skyliner will cause a mild bump in demand, but probably won't present an issue to people that are booking well in advance. Later bookings (maybe six months or less months out?) may indeed become harder (though certainly not impossible) to come by for a while.

:)

Nobody watches the microwaves at any food court. I've cooked ramen noodles at Pop, Caribbean Beach, and Polynesian microwaves.

Hot water is next to the coffee dispenser. I believe it is labeled "hot water" or something like that. The water is steaming hot but not boiling hot. What I do is I break up a bag of ramen, then open the bag and put the chunks of noodles in the refillable mug. It fills perfectly to the brim! Then I fill it with hot water and put the lid on. I walk back to the room, and by then the noodles are ready to eat for the kids! (I don't eat ramen this way. It's disgusting. I microwave mine. But my kids can't tell the difference.:rolleyes1)

Disney's quote for the Skyliner is still that it will open 'Fall 2019'. Many of us are hoping it's earlier but until Disney changes their date (if they change it), it's still a long way away.

Until then, here's a REALLY COOL post BlogMickey put up yesterday showing some of the testing currently underway!

I watched the video. That gondola is really floating fast at 11.4 miles an hour! It only takes 3 minutes to float to CBR from Pop. Wow. The CBR gondola station is a long walk (or an irritating bus ride) from most of the rooms, including the preferred rooms. Irritating because you have to wait for up to 15 minutes for the bus, and it goes all the way around the hotel on the outside -- the long way. This means, if you start timing from the moment people leave their rooms, most people in Pop/AofA are going to get to the CBR station faster than the CBR people.

CBR is my second most favorite resort. I hope they come up with a better solution for getting to the gondola than that internal bus. In the mean time, it looks like the Pop people are going to come out the winner.

Walking would be the easiest and fastest. With them getting rid of The Custom House I can't believe the Internal bus is still running. I can't imagine anyone using it. In all our stays the only guests I ever saw using it were those just arriving and going from Custom House to their room.

Only if a CBR Guest waits for the Internal instead of walking to the CBR Station which for Jamaica,Aruba and Trinidad shouldn't even be a consideration unless a Guest has mobility problems.:)
