Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

Last edited:
Did Disney announce housekeeping was coming back to pre Covid service?
A blog picked up on some kind of internal memo that said it was returning for a few of the resorts. It hasn’t been confirmed in public info.

To add to this, someone who just returned from The Grand said they had daily cleanings in February and someone currently staying in BC/YC (posted on the thread) confirmed they are getting full cleaning every other day.

We will be at Poly DVC side the week leading up to Easter. Given that the parks will be full/crowded, which would be the fastest way to get to MK? Hoping for Tokelau. I heard it's quick to walk to TTC and hop on ferry, but if super crowded is it still quickest way due to all of the crowds?

When should a room request be submitted? We don't check in for 41 days (but who's counting!) and curious about when to ask my agent about it since I don't want to needlessly bug her. I am staying in the hotel side, in a standard room. Two kids, 6 and 9. Any suggestions re: what I should request? Would like a balcony or patio and convenience to snack options. Thanks!

If you know what you want, just let her know now. I'd ask for a first or 3rd floor room in rarotonga.

The assignors start playing tetris about 5 days out.

Thanks! My agent says I should pick either a balcony request or Rarotonga depending on what I prefer (i.e., central location or balcony, if i want to increase the odds of getting a preference). Hmm. Has that been others' experience as well? I'm not sure which one I think is better! Central location would be great with two kids but I know I would be irritated if we didn't get a balcony or patio given the rack rate we're paying.

Wondering if anyone has had luck using Touring Plans fax for room requests on the studio/dvc side of the resort. First time staying studio side and wondering if it's worth the membership. Thanks in advance.

I think I phrased my room request through TP as "my main request is 1)3rd or 1st floor in 2) building name."

I just really don't want a second floor room. Really don't want one.

I’m with @sponica. Does it ruin my vacation if I get a second floor room? No. Do I really want a a first or third floor room? Yes.
I feel the same but I’m wondering how rational that is. Do people actually use the space in a standard room, when you’re not looking out at anything that interested? Genuinely curious and trying to prepare myself for getting 2nd floor room, just in case!

I guess I should caveat, I have two kids (11 and 7) and when they go to bed, the balcony is the adult oasis. Or sometimes I step outside in the AM to do emails and such while everyone sleeps. To us, those are pretty important attributes of vacation. If it were just two adults, I wouldn’t be all that concerned.

FWIW, we did go years before ever getting a 2nd floor room and when we finally did it was a “this isn’t that bad” moment. BUT, a balcony is still better. :-)

I do admit if not for places like these boards it’s a topic I frankly probably wouldn’t have ever paid all that much attention to.

That’s helpful! I have two kids too, 6 and 9 :) I was just trying to brace myself for disappointment by telling myself I may not even use outdoor space! But it sounds like it’s worth it?

I’m all about a (preferably) first floor room or 3rd floor room. We always get standard rooms so I don’t care about the view. The patio/balcony is my drinking place. Lol. I would change rooms the following day if they only had second floor rooms available when I checked in. It’s my top priority. It’s that important to me. :)

My constant stalking the Wdw and dvc site paid off and I was able to get us 2 nights in a DVC studio for my 40th day weekend in June! Have 1 night with points and 1 night with cash. Will continue to stalk to use points vs cash for the 2nd night but will be happy either way.

2 questions-
I see the tables outside with people eating in YouTube videos. Sort of a patio with tables and umbrellas. Is that Cpt. Cooks seating or part of Trader Sams? Looks very pretty and hope to eat there, whatever it is.

I am thinking Ohana for my 40th bday dinner. I am fine paying crazy prices for my kids to eat but just making sure they still offer the kids options like they did years ago. My daughter always had chicken nuggets in the past. Haven’t been since reopening.

I do the monorail. Just walk to the one closest, either GCH or TTC. It is a quick ride. Also the security is fast and you get let off where entry to mk seems to move faster. Mono puts us far left of entrance to MK. Buses and ferry come in on the right and usually a mad house.

For rope drop I think I would do GCH. For the rest of the day ttc should be fine. That ttc area gets a lot of people that are new to WDW and it gets a bit congested.

We are a family of 2 adults, no kids, and we still much prefer having a balcony and utilize it often. We like to have our morning tea and eat out there, especially in pandemic times where you can get To Go from the restaurants.

When I did our TP request I asked for 3rd floor Rarotonga and got it.

There is seating with tables/umbrellas outside of Captain Cook's, and that area sort of blends over to a somewhat separated outside seating are for Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace. During the morning/daytime before the Tiki Terrace opens, you'll see people sitting there either just enjoying the outdoors or their Captain Cook's meal.

I have a 20 month old and a 5 year old who are prone to going to bed on the early side, we definitely want that space.

I was coming to ask this question!
Follow up: How early before park open should you go get on the monorail? It starts running an hour before park open? So walk over an hour and fifteen minutes before? Extra half hour? Extra 45 minutes?
